A walk by the River Severn Worcester City from the boathouse to the bridge. Michael Bakers Boathouse to the historic bridge. We pause at the Water Gate, that was built in 1378. On the south wall, you can find the carved stones that mark the flood levels of past years. The high water points have been observed since 1672, but many are now unreadable. You can also see the faded outline of a Sturgeon inside the Water Gate; it’s carved on the lower course of stones on the southern wall. It is said the sturgeon was caught at Diglis in 1843 and laid against this wall so it could be recorded in stone.
