A wander about Rhyl in North Wales - January 2023

Just took my GH6 for a wander round Rhyl, still figuring out how to use it but captured a bit of the town out of season.
Rhyl is still in a kind of transition at the moment and I think kind of trying to find a new identity for the 21st Century.
I like Rhyl and hope it does ok, its better than it was a few years ago, not quite the brill seaside resort of the past just yet but give it time.

The Colosseum theatre, was opposite where you were, with the Sun Centre being built in the early 80's after the Monorail, was built, and scrapped, after Millions, in investment, building the 30ft high Track the full length of the Seafront. the SkyTower, came from Glasgow Festival, city of Culture, in the 90's and was closed thru winter, because of Noise, from the Cables in the wind, and eventually, closed down Queens is now gone, and the Old Market inside, Concrete, Sanitised, and Boring, is how to describe the towns Feeling now

Been visiting since the 70s, be nice to see Rhyl back in good fettle. I think it's trying now, it sort of lost its identity a bit and got run down. New developments coming now.

Nice wander around, so many places which have gone now, but at least they are renovating the area.

Its good to see it getting a bit of a revival, it feels odd as Rhyl has always been fair, rock,chips and arcades and that image is fading slowly I find and its odd to adjust to it. still a nice place though, needs a few creases ironing out is all.

Hi I'm from Yorkshire .. My Mum was born in North Wales a small village near Wrexham ..Been a god few times to Rhyl and a lot of other places along the coast in North Wales . Was in Rhyl last year lost its way a little bit but I will be back again soon . Great Video well done 😊👍✨✨✨✨.

Hi Tom, I am up Wrexham way a lot as my uncle lives there. I may have some driving Videos of some of the Wrexham area on here, I often forget what I have uploaded as I don’t put everything up. I'm not a pro by any means but enjoy a walk and chat or a drive out and record what we see. I started posting these because I couldn’t find many videos around here, just London and New York etc. Not many people film in Flint, Connah’s quay , Minera etc :D

@@Memory_Gatherers This is where my Mum was Born . Rhosllanerchrugog, Mountain St Wrexham LL14 2LG there is a butchers shop end of the street when she lived there it was Terraced houses. But they have gone now and have Old age Bungalows there now . . Yorkshire is where my Mum and her family moved to when she was 14 years old . Thanks from Tommy Yorkshire.

The wild west shooter that your partner was talking about was in the recently demolished Savoy Amusements under the Savoy Hotel. "Hillbilly Shooter" was it's correct name if I'm not mistaken. The sign was still up for it up until the buildings demolition. The arcade was called "Vern's Amusements"..owned by the late Vernon Trehearn.

I remember it existing and was one of the more fun things in the arcades back in the day a few places did that type of thing. one spat water at you if I recall correctly :D
