I can't fault the production of the video. It was definitely like a Top Gear challenge. If I was buying such a van to keep and use, I'd clean it and give it a good service. It would make them a better place to be and in the case of the Combo, it would probably run much better.
I had a 1.7 combo and it was a good van cheap parts if needed cheap insurance and could go over 100 if needed and the back was more spacious with the side door than some other small vans on market and you can get them cheap as chips
didn't that LDV thing start life as a Leyland Sherpa which in a previous life was once an Austin J1 van?.Drove a flat deck Sherpa in London in the 70's.apart from the sliding windows, door's ex Austin, it used to go OK. It was brand new when the boss got it and we absolutely thrashed it but it wouldn't die.Left to come home to NZ in 1983,and though I'd left the job 4.5yrs before, that Sherpa was still going.
Yep we had a 1978 Leyland Sherpa van as well and it ran all over Britain for years no problem even after being crashed into a lamp post it was repaired and carried on. It was a cheap no frills van just like the LDV Pilot was and for this guy to say it kept breaking down means it was probably the usual British not bothering their arse servicing it or doing anything to it until it did break down. Funny I had a Morris Marina 1.8 HL and an Austin Allegro Equipe and they were very reliable cars - then again I serviced and looked after my own cars because you could not trust the gararges to do it right just like you still cannot today.
I don't think it was the Austin J1, the original Leyland Sherpa was at least partly developed from the Austin Morris J4 used by the Post Office over a long period, but everything else seems right...
they were far simpler in those days the vans now are cheap and nasty and have more things to go wrong. manufacturers dont want them to last like they used to they want you to buy new vans every few years.
I like the combo and ldv , had 2 combos 1998 and 2000 old shape but for what I need van for rather have ldv pilot , not bothered with speed long as runs and has mot,
LDV Pilot's could do an excellent impression of a tuba at 8.20. Ive really missed the sound of that exhaust. Minors sounded like that when you changed gear.
But the only reason that Combo is crap is because you picked a write off lol, a decent condition combo is a great van, the LDV on the other hand... jeeze they're junk XD
LDV Pilots were awful, LDV Convoys were a little better. (and much more rattly too)

What a load of badly acted, scripted bollocks. It's funny that the part which 'fell' off the LDV conveniently waited until these clowns were filing it and the Combo appeared to have it's mirror covered in miles of duct tape for no apparent reason. Nothing wrong with either van and the LDV/FREIGHT ROVER/ Sherpa was a reliable workhorse, used by god knows how many big companies into the 2000s. Thumbs down for this massive nag of shit masquerading as entertainment.
