The Damned Don’t Cry (1950) #WarnerArchive #WarnerBros #TheDamnedDon’tCry
Joan Crawford stars as a strong-willed woman who leaves the drab existence of her family life to take up with a gangster and soon learns the error of her ways. It's a man's world. And Ethel Whitehead learns there's only one way for a woman to survive in it: be as tempting as a cupcake and as tough as a 75-cent steak. In the first of three collaborations with director Vincent Sherman, Joan Crawford brings hard-boiled glamour and simmering passion to the role of Ethel, who moves from the wrong side of the tracks to a mobster's mansion.
Directed By Vincent Sherman
Starring Joan Crawford, David Brian, Steve Cochran

I loved how they delivered this film. Fast. Either it is or it isn't. Either you are or aren't. Either you do or don't. Classic crime. Don't see many like this anymore. Brick played it like this and i actually really liked that film. It grew on me but naturally didn't get any recognition. I think the best films are the ones panned by critics and audiences. If im told it sux i wanna see it! Tho i must admit that i end up not seeing a damn good film for many years some times just because it is raved about by critics and i shy away. Damn, I went way off subject lol. Sorry bout that. Guess i COOULD edit but what's the fun in that?

Steve Cochran left a path of satisfied female pulchritude from the Hollywood Hills to Malibu and Joan got her taste of him.

Sufferin' Sucatsh ! David Brian and Joan Crawford made a great onscreen team ! I'm not a huge fan of Joan Crawford but she could be effective in the right role, such as in "Mildred Pierce" and in film noirs like this. I love this movie; thank goodness TCM shows it every few months. Thanks for sharing this cool clip with us ! :-)

David Brian and she were a couple off screen too. He said he adored her his whole life, and wore a watch engraved with "I love you David. Joan". But, seems she had an affair with another actor in this film too...and then there was Vincent Sherman...and then there was....You had to take Joanie however she came. I suppose it was well worth it. She loved men and sex and women and sex. Men were her focus.

@@gailjarvis2592 Thanks for your comment, Gail ! Yes, I too have read that Joan had affairs with many of her co-workers and co-stars. Watched her earlier this week on TCM in "Mildred Pierce" for the umpteenth time !! :-)

Today’s actors are weak they rely on special effects, CGI. Not like these too total class.

I agree did not like Joan Crawford either it was just something about her did not click right, I enjoyed how she got slapped in "Mildred Pierce" by her daughter Vida loved that.

She had dramatic body type like many models nowdays. You can tell that when you look at stunning square face shape and that iconic broad shoulder. Furthermore she was not curvy like actresses from that era. Her body shape was banana. So she had that quite masculine appearence. In my opinion she was beatiful in some special way. She had these brushy eyebrows decades before they were born. Only difference between her and contemporary models is height-Joan was around 5'4''.

I think it was more of an "it" factor that she had on camera. Most of the pretty female actresses at the time all looked the same. Her look was very unique. For me, it's more that she had a screen presence than actual beauty. I should note that, since most of her films were in black and white, you never got to appreciate her blue eyes. They were turquoise, actually.

Are you kidding? She is probably the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. Not kidding! Every time I watch one of her movies I am amazed how beautiful she is. Way more beautiful than Bette Davis or Marilyn Monroe. Why do you think she isn’t beautiful? Or do you just have bad taste.

@@madonnafitzgerald7840 I totally agree with you! Joan was and will be the most beautiful woman that ever graced the earth! I mean look at this face!!!
