Mine 4.6 has put a smile on my face every day I've owned one. I was recently put off by the Coyote 5.0 when I found out it requires 10 quarts of oil at oil change... 10 quarts... That actually has me looking toward a used 08 ' and up GT500 maybe in the future... 2005 - 2010 gen. Also the oil pan is plastic, as well as the "twist on/off" oil plug... Yes a plastic twist on twist off oil plug...
This is probably the best review I have seen for this car. Great job man! I am looking at a 2007 GT Premium now. This is the kinda of stuff I wanted to know. Thanks a lot!
I just bought the 07 in 2020 and this thing has lost zero balls on it!! The power holds up and now I am making the mods to update my ride into a beauty....I really like the videos! Thanks
Reid, You're reviews helped me make the decision to get a 2005 Mustang GT (I know, 2 years older). You're in-depth analysis of the car is fantastic and taking us along for the ride gives us a perspective of what it will be like driving one of these. I thank you for all of the great info and mod updates you give us. Keep it up!!
Good job son....good review. I have an 07gt',,,modded out. 3.73 gears, gt 500 throttle body, 93 octane tune, pypes long tube headers and x pipe, no cats, Jlt cold air intake. Yea,,neck snapping,,its awesome...lol Probably 4.5 sec or less 0 to 60mph. Low to mid 12s in the 1/4 mile. I'm keeping mine Naturally Aspirated.
I'm gonna buy my friends 07 GT Premium with the manual transmission. It's a great running car, and looks amazing. These older ford may have cheaper interiors but what's under the body is built tough and the car can probably last another 100k miles if it's kept maintained.
I've been dreaming of my very own S-197 for quite some time now and for exactly the same aesthetic reasons you mentioned as well as other factors. Mostly for how much they look like a late 60's Stang. I would choose the s-197 over any mustang on the road including the new 2019 Bullet. I really appreciate the great info you shared here and not like I needed much convincing but you've sold me now to 100%. It was a pleasure to here what you had to say thanks for the concise info. Oh how I cant wait to find mine! BTW if you see an S-197 GT Convertible in white with red leather interior (an absolute must!) standard trannie, please be so kind as to hit me back. All the best Hans from Montreal, Canada.
I have a 2006 GT convertible and love its look. I considered buying a 2017 for more power but thought I would miss my s197 if I traded it in. Best post-classic Mustang. Add the color-matched side-view mirror caps from American Muscle.
That was a great review. I bought a 2008 GT/CS convertible. I've had it a year now. I AGREE with about 100% of your review. The conclusion being if you just drive it knowing it's not a Bugatti, it puts a smile on your face every time. The sound, enough power, looks from people and just kind of makes you feel pure American bad dass. Actually the mods come as you can afford and even that is fun. A nice set of shocks for Christmas, etc. Anyway, great review.
Never in a million years thought about the front end of the lower bumper to be plasti dipped black to look a bit like the California special bumper. I was thinking about buying the front chin spoiler but this can work for now since I don't have money to be spending lol Thank you so much for this review!
Haha glad I could give a little insight! Ultimately I'd like to have it wrapped gloss black along with the roof, but, as you said, that's money to be spent that I don't have. Glad you enjoyed it man!
great review...I love my 05 GT. I also own a 95 Miata with lots of suspension mods so I can drive it when I want to sling around the corners. My favorite thing about my Mustang is the danger factor! I can throw the Miata around like a mad man and I always know what it will do. The Mustang is a beast! You definitely have to be on your toes and that right pedal works SO much better in the Stang (even though it's a 3v)
I love the red leather interior as well. I have a redfire red 2007 Mustang GT Premium and the slight metal flake in the paint along with my red and black interior is way cool. I agree on the high engagement point on the clutch as being a negative. So much so that I had a stage 2 clutch, with the usual, lower clutch engagement. My mustang has 40,000 miles on it and has the Air Raid CAI with high octane tune. This CAI makes a huge difference in the throttle response, sound and a 10% gain in engine hp. I added Borla Stinger axle backs and the MMD rear quarter window louvers. I just put a set of the B.F. Goodrich G-Force Comp 2 UHP tires on it and am loving these tires. I stayed with the 235 55 18 inch tires on my polished aluminum Bullitt syle wheels. I replaced the stock tail light assembly with the Radion red diffusor tail light lens. They are LED and display the sequencial lighting when activated. My next mod will be a coil over suspension with the upgraded strut mounts and adjustable pan hard bar. Its become a real driver and is a head turner at the show and shines. Its a garage queen in the winter . I belong to a local customs and classics car club and we run a gambit of Shows, cruises and displays. I live about 1 1/2 hours from Sturgis, South Dakota so I also attend the yearly Mustang rally there. I'm loving my car!
Have a 2006 with a Vortech V3 supercharger, 4.10 gears, bbk catless xpipe , pypes shorty headers, Borla Atak axelback, Brenspeed 93 race tune and more. I’m 24 and have a blast it’s my 3rd mustang and looks beautiful. 470hp on low boost can’t go wrong 🤘🏻 #Murica
Jacob Webb Non intercooled for now but getting one very soon that way I can increase boost I’m only running probably 6psi. And no waste gate bro, centrifugal superchargers can use a blowoff valve tho... they use the blowoff when the throttle plate closes... the wastegate is used to control boost levels...in the centrifugal superchargers instance the boost is controlled by the pulley size...I’m pretty sure I’m around 6-7 psi running 3.68 pulley I believe it is.
Tanner Hooper 65k miles when I bought it now it’s around 71k. You could still deff boost it I’ve seen some boosted with 150k miles with no problems. Just keep the boost at a respectable number don’t go over 450-460 rwhp without forged internals
I got a 2010 GT.. Its my second Mustang.. I had a 2007 GT a few years ago.. Its not as fast as the newest models but its super nice.. Still pretty quick.. Quick enough to still smoke most cars.. Anything faster and Id probably be dead or in jail... I have to leave my car parked 95% of the time just because of that. Its still fast enough to get in a lot of trouble or get you killed.. Im older now and have a daughter.. And its not that these cars are slow.. Its the fact that the newer muscle cars have hit ridiculous levels of performance... Can you really call them Muscle cars now? They run with super cars now... Dont put your young kids behind the wheels of these newest muscle cars.. Your asking for a lot of heartache... When I was in highschool kids were wiping out bad in Camaros and Mustangs.. Few died and few came real close..
you speak so well and you don't deem to stutter a lot when doing a commentary that is not scripted , great review and I can't believe I just watched this for 30 + mins lol . I'm planning to buy this as my first car with about 150,000 + miles on it so it is cheaper around 10,000 or less also automatic, is that a good idea and what should I check for while inspecting the car before buying? BTW im a new driver
Thanks man! I appreciate it. I'd definitely have a pre-purchase inspection done on the car. The automatic transmissions can be weak, as can the front outer tie rods. Other than that, just basic wear and tear like shocks/struts, bushings, etc...
RCGCarReviews Me and my dad which is a mechanic are going to check it out and it is 1 hour away but I believe Its worth it. Thank you for replying and lovely car
Really enjoyed this, and your personality came out quite a bit. Gave me a laugh ha. I agree about the paint chipping, my 06 gets so bad when I go on a road trip. Small rocks or chips can do a lot of damage. On the cup holders, good heavens. Why would you make a car that has four seats and only 2 holders? Not to mention the awkward placement of the holders. *knocks a cup over when trying reach for something in the backseat* or maybe that's just something that I struggle with 😂😜.
Thank you! I really tried to be as open as I could with this review. I hate that the paint on the S197 car is so bad...makes it hard to keep them looking as new as they should. As far as the cup holders go, they're just an absolute nightmare. Ford really should have put more thought into them.
Looked at my front bumper today and really noticed some very small, yet visible chips to the paint. Texas roads did my car some harm, not to mention crazy drivers.
Front clunking is likely caused by bad lower ball joints. Famous issue on these cars, replaced them on my 06 GT at about 50,000 miles. Also, some people have issues with the strut mounts too.
Anyone know why the ball joints are prone to go bad so soon.? My 2007 has the clunking sound when I hit bumps and practically every used one I’ve driven has it. Is it due to a lack of lubrication?
Thanks for the detailed review!! Does your car have any radio controls on the steering wheel? Also, do you have the 1/8" mini-jack aux input control in the center console? If so, does it allow you to plug a MP3 player in and play tunes through the Shaker system? I'm an inch away from buying a '07 GT Deluxe. Many thanks! Dave F.
Unfortunately no radio controls on the steering wheel. That didn't come along until 2010 unfortunately. I do have the aux input in the center console & yes, you can play music off of an MP3/iPod/iPhone or whatever device you have. Good luck with the purchase on the new car! They're a blast.
you can use duplicolor to change the color of the interior. I dont recomend it to make the seats red, but it will work perfectly turning the gray stuff to black. It's a nice car. The centered fog lights could work well with the look of you car. Also the smaller lighst with the classic pony retro grill also work. You car needs a chin and bigger wheels (not rims, wheels). It could be either tyres, rims or a combination of both.
I just got an 08 mustang GT premium I love it Ford did a bang up job with the mustang in 2005 and I think that's where they should have stopped because the 2005 is perfect style wise I don't want to drive my mustang too often because i want to keep the miles low In any case i don't plan of getting rid of it any time soon
@@lurgee29 so funny story I found an 09 gt 45th anniversary with 47k original miles on it! Its manual with the grey on black interior and the previous owner painted it in the Ford grabber blue. Its in great shape, I dropped it on coilovers with a whiteline panhard bar, and the previous owner put an axleback on it. I've been loving the car so far. Honestly I think your review video is part of the reason I got it. The only issue I'm having is that the rear defroster doesn't seem to work.
Nice looking S197 Mustang! Is the hood scoop functional? I would modify it to allow air inside it for cooling the engine compartment and add a cold air intake for more horsepower
Got an 06 GT Premium just now at 65,600 miles in 2020. Has been wrecked and repaired 3 or 4 times. Don't forget to get those recalled airbags replaced!
Getting an 07 California special tomorrow so hype. It’s an automatic but 75k miles for 13k can’t pass it up. Great cars that pull hard mine has a flow master outlaw exhaust sounds great
I love it man it’s a damn good car. Had to change the alternator and the infamous coolant leak under the intake manifold but that’s it. It pulls nice I put a jlt intake and 93 tune and man is it nice. I highly recommend it.
When I was your age I bought a 1966 Pontiac GTO (Royal Bobcat). In ‘06 I bought a beautiful S-197 Gun-Metal Grey Convertible. It was a “Dealer Demo” w/. 2,000 miles on it. I have never had a problem. Missing Shift is not a usual problem. Buy a pair of Driving Gloves. I love my GT. I bought a radar set. I’m 6’6” nobody rides in my back seat. You haven’t mentioned the ‘step’ you can rest your foot on. I put American Racing Mags and Goodyear’s Eagles. It’s the exact “King of the Road” Staggering. Ventilated Discs and Bembro Calipers. I drive mine on Hyw 1 south of San Francisco. When I changed the seats and put in the Roll-Bar and Five Point restraints on my seat , but that goes back to my Dads MG-B . I just did four points on the Passenger Seat. Did you put a “ Strut Tower Brace” in ? If you have arms like I do you can shift easily if you get the seat all the way (extra two inches) back and down. ‘fake hood scoops’ only induced drag. And a “Mustang GT” can be set-up so you can embarrass a Corvette. A company like American Muscle has enough after market stuff that you really can make a desirable handling set-up. It all comes with decades of knowledge behind the wheel. I feel in love with The S-197 from the gate. About the only thing I haven’t done is radicalizing the exhaust. CHP loves to dick with modified exhausts. Anyway I love my Convertible, Ford really got that right. The total lack of road noise make cross country trips a pleasure when I have a girlfriend in the car. I have a “Shaker 1000” out of a wrecked ‘04. And the 5 disc changer has some great features. Anyway, enjoy.
I can't speak for everyone else but I know that the main things I care about are reliability and build quality. Everything else is just customization and should be in a separate video imo. Otherwise great job though. Keep up the good work!
Adam Muqattash.. Actually it isn't my reviews, but I been looking at the 05-09 for awhile now. I had 6 foxes, when I was a kid, and a 2valve gt, (2) early 4valve cobras, ...thev 4V s were the best deal a time ago, maybe 5 yrs ago, but most all of the 3V s have depreciated in value just about as far as they are gonna go and they run stronger then the early NA Cobras , so clearly a great buy today here in lowly 2020. So, yeah we kinda looking round and learning a bit more on this gen, and like the glass roof option
For whatever reason, the late 90s to mid 2000s, Ford has not had the best luck with paint that doesn't have metal flake in it. I don't know if it's the paint manufacturer that is the issue or how they apply it. GM has the same problem with their clearcoat peeling on their non-metallic colors. Until you repaint it, put in a garage or enclosed building that is dust free. Get painter's blue masking tape, and tape the top up part just of the rear where it rolls down to the back glass. Go to your local automotive paint supplier and get the correct paint in a spray. You can paint that area and it will last for a while. Be sure to sand and prime the area before painting. Once it dries for about 2 weeks, use 3M Rubbing Compound, 03900, with a clean waxing pad and some soft microfiber cloths to buff the paint out. Don't use an electric buffer, because on a body seam like that, the paint will be more likely to burn. It may take two or three times, but you should be able to get the paint to match up pretty well. You can do the same thing with your front bumper as well, I would talk to your local automotive paint supplier and go with and undercarriage type paint for that. Those paints are rubberized and will hold up better to road hazards.
PR H I have a 2007, never had an issue with my paint chipping (49k miles). Yours must have been painted on a Friday. Or you drive to close behind trucks.
I ave a 2007 Mustang GT premium that has the red fire paint with the metal flake in it. No problems with rock chips. My red leather seats and red and black interior looks great. I have 40,000 miles on it and I love the car.
I disagree with who ever is calling the 3 valve terrible. These 5th gens I think have one of the better looking bodyt styles and one of the better sounding V8's in the market to this day. And I have a buddy with an 07 GT premium 5 speed manual 175k miles and the car still runs like new and it's only ever had minimal repairs (new radiator, slave cylinder) that's it. Everything else was basic maintenance and the car runs better than ever. It might even go another 100k miles honestly. As long as the car is driven with respect and taken care of they are very solid cars. Respect the ride people.
i love how ppl says this car is cheap and shit now days , i remember no long ago when this car came out , EVERY single one was talking about how cool this car was how fast this car was it was and icon and so on and so on, omg ppl pls stop complaining about a car that came out 10 years ago of course there is newer cars better cars , judge the car for what it is not for what it sopouse to be ! its idiotic to think that this car would compete with moder cars , ITS JUST STUPID and ppl that compare this car to newer versions or even other cars are totally IGNORANT ! and know nothing about motoring.
Correct! I much prefer a low engagement, but that's kind of out of the question at this point haha. Not too many Stangs in Germany I'm sure, thanks for keeping the heritage alive over there!
I have a 2008 mustang GT Black. I love the car it’s really fun to drive. People that haven’t drove one won’t understand what we mean by it’s fun. What’s your IG bro so I can show you pictures?
Wow my paint chips too just thought it was because of how it was treated before I got it. I have an 06 mustang GT I have the black and silver interior. It's a blast I have done the intake and exhaust. It's at about 400hp at the crank. Have you done any power mods to yours?
@@BlakeCodGuy1 I also have underdrive pulleys and an agressive tune for it. I have the biggest intake for this generation that alone is rated at 30hp with a bama tune I also have a 62mm throttle body. I am running a more agressive tuner so it should be more.
@@BlakeCodGuy1 my tuner said I should expect 340 at the rear wheels. With the pulleys that's 350 so I should be at or very close to 400. I also have 3.73 gears.
Not sure if you were aware or not, there's an insert in that rear cup holder you can take out to make the cup holder much much deeper. It really helps shifting. Also, Get yourself one of these... www.amazon.com/Gentex-GENK20A-Dimming-compass-Temperature/dp/B0083AEVYA
I am aware of it, but it still doesn't make the shifting all that much easier to me. Just poor design overall, but not a huge deal. And THANK YOU! I will most definitely be getting one of those as soon as I can afford it.
I used at have a 2006 Mustang GT and I loved it. But I fucked mine up and I had to get rid of it. Make sure you change the transmission fluid, especially if you drive it hard. I had almost 90k miles on the car before changing it. It started slipping really bad and after I flushed the fluid, the overdrive gear wouldn't work every few days or so; and it would take around 10 seconds for it to violently jerk into reverse. I loved the car but I didn't want to pay for a new transmission on a 9 year old car at the time.
Ooh - that's good to know. I'll probably do that within the next few months. I definitely drive the car pretty hard and pack the miles on, so it's gotta be done and the transmission is starting to let me know about it. I hate that you had to let yours go, though! They're an absolute blast.
Nah, I bought a black 07 Mustang GT with a 5 speed as my first car 3 weeks ago and it's the best thing to ever happen to me lol. It's so much fun and I smoke all my friends cars
