If you use a DMM to measure resistance across a circuit which has a capacitor, you will see the resistance read very low to begin with and then increase as the capacitor charges up.

I like your videos. They teach a lot about how these things are designed to not be repairable but indeed they are REPAIRABLE. Apple will greatly suffer from its greed. Just like back in the mid 90's except that they will never recover from this. Steve Jobs is gone. It used to be better when he was around.

Louis! Thank you for your work! I have a mid2010 mbp that had massive heat issues. Because of watching your channel I decided to to repaste the cpu and gpu. First I was a bit scared that I may ruin the board but then I watched a lot of your videos and that showed me that I don't have to be scared. The thermal paste was like dust when I scraped it off. Now I can watch your videos with 70°C temps and 2200rpm fan spin (i can bearly hear the fan)! Before it wasn't possible - thought my mb is dying...

I guess it depends on the people that use them. I've seen some old boards on Louis's channel and they either looked dirty or clean. Same applied on newer macbooks. I recently got a A1278 for cheap - made in 2013 - board looks immaculate. Maybe it was cleaned before. I don't know...

At 18:20 the increasing resistance is just the multimeter slowly charging the capa sitters, which will draw decreasing current as they charge up and appear as a higher resistance to the multimeter.

You know, it's amazing that how my laptop from 2008 (HP Pavilion Vista, upgraded to Win 7 x64 Pro) still works fine. Yeah, I had to replace the HDD and one of RAM slots went bad, and the keyboard and trackpad don't work (my brother spilt soda on it back in 2010, had to take it apart and clean it out), but it still works surprisingly well for what it went through. Yeah, it's obsolete by today's standards, but it does what I need it to do.

18:45 "Self-fixing board". No. What you're doing is measuring resistance from a power rail to ground, two points on a board that are capacitively coupled. Your ohmmeter measures resistance by applying a known voltage, measuring the current flow, and using Ohm's Law to calculate resistance. High current flow from charging up that capacitor across your test points causes a low resistance reading, which "fixes itself" as current drops off because the cap's charged.

Pattern recognition.. Kind of like when I'm diagnosing a problem with a laptop someone spilled milk into, and it won't power on, but will charge the battery.. It was a shorted keyboard.. Or the dozens of Xbox 360's with disc read errors... It's always the laser getting weak, and in need of adjustment... ALWAYS lol. That's a pattern!!
