A guide to replacing the water pump on a A20 engine found in 1986-1989 Honda Accords. This guide should work for both carbureted and fuel injected models.

I know this video is old, but to anyone wondering how to pull the pump without pulling the cover and doing timing, you can remove the stud on the pump with the double nut method and heating up the end of it.

What Fuel Injectors are you running in your car? Part Number if possible

I'm currently still using the factory Accord injectors, 240cc low impedance (resistor box).

Man that’s a helluva lot easier without the timing belt cover in place. Any issues as time has gone on and not having that cover there?

I haven't had any issues but then again I don't daily drive the car anymore.

You should have said something about the gasket sealer and how many other bolts you have to take off to get to the waterpump like the 3 part shield that go's over the timing belt.

Most definitely haha, the only thing that I've ever torqued near 90 ft/lbs were ring gear bolts for a differential.

Muchas Gracias my bro. Years ago, heard water pump replacement on my 89 would require timing chain job. So I let my accord sit for 7 years. But with your videos I’m get my Honda back on the road. I appreciate you taking the time to post your instructional videos. Again homes, muchas gracias my bro

Does the bottom cover have to come off ?

No. The upper bolts for the lower need to come out but there is enough room to get the pump out and new one in without removing the whole thing

What about that huge plastic shield that goes over the timing belt? Seems your car is missing it. It runs over the bottom of the water pump.

From what I remember you do not have to remove it to replace the water pump. I've done a water pump on my other accord (carbureted) and did not have to remove it.
