My friend has a 1991 Prelude taught me everything about manuals on that car has half a million miles on it still has the functioning pop up headlights and 4wheel steering they are bullet proof!!

That engine was built on the assembly line while I was an engineer there. I was responsible for many of the parts and vendors for both I4 and V6 engines then. Glad to see it running! Side note, the EGR's, A/C generators, Gaskets, P/S pumps, wheel bearings, etc. were a part of the scope of vendors I managed. Loved working for Honda!

I currently own a 2007 Honda Civic. I bought it used with 138k for $3800 about 5 years ago. I have only had to replace the brakes, tires and oil. She now has 295,000 on her and still runs the same as the day I bought it. Honda owners are usually Honda owners for life and my little Honda has taught me why.

Hi Scotty, I bought my 2005 Honda Civic Ex (fully loaded) in 2007 from the original owners. They married couple are physical therapist. The wife wanted an SUV. I'm still driving my Honda Civic today. May 2024. Now 19 years later! LOL It has only 120,00 miles on it! LOL Most people have 400,00 at this point Everyone one is like how have you mange that? You don't drive your car much! I love my Honda and many guys have tried to get me to sell it! I tell them no deal! It's been good to me and has only needed general maintenance. And they only made so many so it's on it's way to becoming a classic collectors model! My sister just got a new car and gave m her 2007 honda accord. It has 187,000 miles. It had broken engine mounts, a leaking radiator at the top and air conditioner had to be recharged. Other than that it runs great now.

Cash for clunkers was made to destroy cars that last over 200k miles. These newer cars with the GDI systems are total junk and use all plastic parts that last maybe 100k if you're lucky. You pay twice as much also. I see a gloomy future for all of us blue collar guys.

Agree 100%. I have a 2005 Pilot with 237K. Bought new. It purrs and shifts like new. Normal wear items like axle shafts,a starter engine mounts etc but it's the original alternator,injectors/a/c,windows,locks all the nagging these. I don't want a new one.

Cash For Clunkers only took vehicles that got 17 mpg or less off the Road . Most Hondas , Toyotas get better mileage so it didnt affect them . But older American made cars like Buick Roadmasters , Impalas , Crown Vics etc were targeted . A lot of cool cars got destroyed because of that program .

@@jayhockley8841 Depended on your area. Where I was there were brand new cars, legendary vans, and legendary gas sippers getting crushed for cash for clunkers just because someone wanted a new shiny. I watched a 1978 civic go that looked like an old special order. It was black with gold pinstriping. It had a moonroof and the rear side windows were paneled and had bubble windows installed. Still ran. Unfortunately, I was in like 8th grade and my mom wouldn't let me try and talk the dude into letting me buy it. I'm almost certain he was the type who would've taken a pack of beer for it since it was "the spare car that sat under a tree in the yard"

i had a '96 civic with 490K miles. auction car, $200 bucks. got a key from Honda for 8 dollars, and changed a single spark plug wire. that car ran like a champ. i still own my ''88 crx. 400K miles, runs like it's 1989 today.😃 45MPG calculated if i drive conservatively...even with this corn crap in the gas nowadays. oh, with the a/c on of course. I have a 1993 Honda accord 10th anniversary edition with 378000 miles. My wife's mother bought it new. My wife gave it to me. I use it for work. Fixed the ac. Got to have in Florida. I overheated it, my fault. Got a cylinder head from the junk yard for 100 dollars. Put 15000 miles a year on it. Looking forward to 400000.

My 2007 Civic hasn't had a single problem. I change the oil every year. I took it in at every maintenance cycle. Had all the belts changed, trans emptied (not flushed), plugs changed. I just turned 80K miles and get 33MPG just running around. Drove to Florida a cpl of years ago and got 40MPG highway. Why would I ever get rid of this car? The only thing I think will need changing might be the rear shocks. A/C still cold. No one believes its 15 yrs old.

That's good stuff. The value of it must be insane with those low miles but I would keep it forever too. I had an '06 with 165k and absolutely loved it. Always did maintenance on time and never had a single issue. Unfortunately I totalled it a long time ago but would love another one day.

@@vanderumd11 I have a 2006 TL with 93k ... and it's PURRRRFECT. And the A/C works perfectly, too ... it's a CA car, and the HVAC system has been set to 72º since I bought the car in '06 ... so that compressor has been on and off every week fo the entire 15 years. I think that's part of the secret ... turn the A/C on every week, let it get cold, then turn it off if you don't need it. Keeps everything moist and lubricated.

My 2003 Honda Civic Lx lasted till 240k with no replacement except radiator due to accident. That thing would’ve gone to 500k had I not gotten into an accident. Best car I ever had.

Still driving my 1998 Civic DX (base model) manual locks and hand crank windows. Original owner. Cosmetically rough with small dents, torn bumper, worn seats, sagging headliner but after 250,000 miles but still runs great.

Yep - one of my mechanic's loner-cars is a 2000 Accord, 4 cyl. I think it has 280,000km on it, but has lived a hard life in Ontario, yet, still looks good, still drives perfect. Very resilient cars - especially given the winters we have here.

I have a 2000 honda Accord SE and got it when it was 124k back in '10 as the second owner and man this car I swear this engine can't die. It's been through everything and every time the new car breaks or something happens this honda always is reliable to get us around. It just past 260k miles and still going very strong. Best cars ever! Two of my friends had 99 Accords, both are still on the road, neighbor just acquired a 2000 V6 Accord used, from a Grandpa owner, 39 K original miles. Runs like a dream. New tires, battery, other rubber pieces only.

Talked to a driver coming out of his Honda Insight, 2010 model. Still running great at 219K, has had to replace the main battery and hybrid battery, but said he wouldn’t trade it for anything, bought it brand new and keeps it garaged.

Yes! I have a 2003 Accord, 256,000 still runs great. No transmission issues yet, but I paid $2000 for it just before prices went insane. Hoping to keep it going. Clear coat is definitely in rough condition, but at my age, 70, so am I! I like the idea of leaving the paint like it is. I heard I could wipe it down with boiled linseed oil, which I have tried on the trim in places and seems to really last. Any info on whether that’s a bad idea for any reason in general, I realize that on this aging car it probably can’t hurt.

I had this very same car(1998 accord) between 2005 and 2014. A/C stopped working at 130k miles due to climate control module. I had bought one from junkyard for $50 and it fixed the issue. A/C kept working with no misses after that. I always loved driving the accord. It was very comfortable. I didn't not have any issue with the car until we sold it at 225k miles.

I had a ‘99 CR-V with 362,000 miles on it. It was my daily driver until the head gasket let go. To me It wasn’t worth fixing, so I gave it to a friend who ended up fixing it and he still drives it!

Still two. My wife's black '98 rarely gets driven anymore though. She got a new Toyota last year. I'll stick to the older, simpler vehicles. Toyota has a good reputation too, but who knows if it will go as far as the white crv!

I've looked up that 98 civic and you can still buy heater parts. There is only one motor controlling the blend door. it's still available for 190.00 You could also just bypass it and let the cool air through. The heater core control valve is just cable actuated and can be easily replaced. If it has too much r134 in it the pump will shut off. removing the excess gas will probably get the pump cycling again. I've owned civics for about 15 years, lots of parts available and I'm sure that ac can be repaired for not alot of money. You can buy one of these used with low miles for less than you can buy the wheels off a modern car. I get 32mpg on the highway.

95 Honda Accord 5 spd manual. Still original spark plug wires, alternator, power steering pump, cat, 02 sensor, A/C compressor. I replaced the clutch, front rotors and pads, master cylinder, radiator, timing belts and water pump. I upgraded the shocks to Tokico gas shocks. I do all my own maintenance and wrenching. Synthetic oil and Honda's MTL for the tranny. It has 200,000 miles, and crossed the USA 3x, and survived New England and Montreal winters. It is the most reliable car I've ever owned. Makes my ex Audi and ex BMW look like shitbox basket cases.

I have had at least one Honda in my family for the last 45 years. They have all been very dependable cars, much better then any American car that I have owned. I’m sorry to say that ,but it’s the truth.

I love my 2005 Honda Accord EX 3.0 V6 with Vtec. I have 156k miles on it and the car still runs like a dream. It has outlasted my 2008 Ford F150 Harley truck, 2007 BMW X5, 2009 Cadillac SRX, and it looks like it's going to outlast my wife's current 2012 GMC Terrain SLT 2.4. I'm never going to let this car go. I do however plan on buying a Honda Ridgeline truck within the next 2 years. I use Marvel Mystery Oil in the crankcase and gas tank to keep my 05 Accord humming along nicely.

Early days for us given our 1st Honda has only done 48000 miles in 9 years but it passes its yearly tests without any failures. Reminds me how my father was obliged to fettle his cars every weekend until he bought a Datsun. Never had a moments trouble after that, and he simply knew whatever the journey length he would get there and back.

My mom has a 2002 accord se. Same clear coat problems. Car has 189k miles on the original transmission fluid and radiator coolant. Dad never changed them. Oil changes when needed, brake jobs, tires, a couple batteries and that’s about it. They don’t build them like they used to at all. Mom liked her 1992 accord better than the 2002. Most new cars are poorly engineered to work on too. Other than Hondas engines and transmissions everyone else is about on par these days. Drive what you want and just maintain it. The best Hondas are on two wheels ✌️ 🏍

Love my Honda's. Had an 04 V6 Accord with 208,000 miles on it, sold it with 250,000 miles within the year. My baby was too old but she was still running. Now I have a 2012 Civic and I'm just in love. Got it with 150,000 miles and didn't hesitate because I knew it would be a good car. All I do is change the oil, rotate the tires, and it keeps running. 😇

My wife bought a new 2010 CRV and would not trade for anything. I change oil and filter every 4,000 miles replaced tires once ,replaced battery once and replaced front wheel brake pads recently. That is all . We are very happy with it. Can't match a Honda.

I would love to have my 1991 honda accord back. Car was bullet proof. Now I'm driving 2019 honda crv oil dilution and no heat in winter stop and go driving. Stay far away from the 1.5 if you drive in cold weather.

the Accord 1.5 uses shutters that shut air out from radiator and engine so it will warm up quickly. The CRV does not have them? They take forever to warm up in cold for sure.

I had a 95 vetec accord. Sold it with 200000 miles and it still ran perfectly. Ac still worked too. Great car. Drove it for about 13 years. Yes, make sure you replace timing belt, and water pump about every 100000 miles

I got my dad's 2004 Accord LX when he could no longer drive. Currently at 92k miles. Always garaged. Zero rust. The only problems I've had is the plastic button on the gear shift knob sheared off. The part is under $10. And, the original radio makes a popping noise and goes out. I bought an aftermarket touch screen. I've just gotta get it installed.

Im In TN as well! Got an '06 Honda civic that's been sitting in my driveway for the last 4 years due to a snapped throttle cable (did a quick fix to get it home) but havent messed with it since, until last week. I decided to charge the battery and inflate the tires, lo and behold it started right up with no issues! test drove up n down the driveway but thats as far as i was willing to go. I was planning on ordering a new throttle cable tomorrow and get to working on it, till i saw your video.....i remember the AC just stopped blowing cold. Now i was thinkin i just needed to refill the freon, but after seeing this, i think i better check THAT before i attempt to fix it. Thanks for the video, you might've just saved me alot of time and money

I'm the original owner of a Japan made ("J" in the Vin#) 1999 Honda Accord LX with manual transmission and 150K miles. I've driven the car so easily that I'm still on the original clutch and....get this....original brake pads (only 20-25% wear) and shoes. I've tracked every single fill up on this car and my average MPG in town is 28 and 34-36 on the highway doing 70MPH. I'm getting sick and tired of shifting after 27 years of driving manual transmissions as a daily drivers though.

Had a 96 accord ,odometer went at about 630,000 miles. Still ran great ,didn't smoke ,started everyday ,even had the original clutch. The only issue, was the NJ winters. Their over salting rutted the under carage away. Miss that car...

Suggestion for possibly hacking the AC: Do as you said; direct wire toggle and fuse to ac compressor; and ALSO install a manual gate valve or a solenoid valve in the supply-side heater hose to stop warm water from flowing to the heater core.

I had a 2001 Accord 4 cylinder -same model as this one. Everything worked until 196K when the transmission went out. I had done a drain and fill on the transmission fluid ( Honda fluid ) every 15,000 miles like clockwork. Broke my heart.

We are on our 2nd 6th generation accord. In 2016, I bought a 2001 EXL 4 cyl with 27k original miles, garage kept, maintained routinely, driven about 1-2k miles a year, and in pristine condition. An absolute rare find, owned by an elderly person. I replaced all belts and hoses (including the timing belt) when I first got it. Today, it is now at 85k miles and only have about $200 in easy DIY repairs since I bought it (including a radiator). It is my wife's daily. I do a drain and fill with Honda DX1 every 10k miles, and maintain everything else like clockwork. I love the 6th gen accords as they are super reliable, easy to work on, and maintain.. these were the golden era of cars without all the unnecessary tech (including annoying TPMS), and craptastic plastic engine parts. I get unsolicitied offers on it all the time, but we will be keeping it for many years to come. My other vehicle is a 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.0 that I have owned since 1999 and progressively kept up with absolutely everything (new headliner, bumper covers, and seat leather bottoms included, complete front end suspension rebuild, etc.). The Jeep is at 190k, and only the oil pan has been dropped to replace the rear main seal, on 3rd water pump, radiator, and starter (all replaced free with lifetime warranty parts as I keep receipts.. In fact, I have replaced the rear window struts 5x over the years for free with my lifetime warranty receipts, and will be doing that with the shocks in a few years LOL).. other than that, the core engine and tranny have been trouble free. Both of our cars are in super excellent condition inside and out, appear to be 5 years old or less, garage kept, and have bluetooth. I will not hesitate to drive either one cross country, and plan on enjoying many more miles from both for years to come. No car payments since 1999.. Live Free or Die!

My 2002 Accord has 405,000 miles. Just did the timing belt and water pump. Runs perfectly, original alternator, A/C compressor. The clutch has been replaced and the fuel pump went out. A stunningly great vehicle and the best money I’ve ever spent.

@@LightSkinBadiee alternator twice. Cooling fan on the passenger side of the radiator. Some work last December on the dashboard to get the airflow corrected from floor to windshield. Tires, brakes, oil, changes, shock, absorbers. Beyond that, pretty much everything is original. Engine, transmission, front suspension. Exhaust. Catalytic converter output is low, but here in Ohio, they don’t force me to have that documented.

I enjoy my 2006 Honda Jazz 1.5L. It just hit 140 000km. All original parts. The only problem I experienced is the brakes but other than that I'm gonna drive it unit the wheels come off, then watch Scotty's video to restore and rebuild it

I had one of those myself. Got it to 279K miles, and undoubtedly would have gone a lot farther if some stoner hadn't pulled out of the parking lot for the local pot shop without looking and smashed in the front fender and bumper. Although the damage wasn't all that severe, it was enough for insurance to total it anyway. Go figure. And, yes, I did have to replace the A/C compressor and condenser a few years before. Cost me around $1,600.00.

I have a 2001 Honda Accord that is my daily driver. I believe I had the same problem with my AC about two years ago. It would only blow hot air and the AC wouldn't turn on. The lights didn't work to show that it was going from heat to AC. Turns out my AC climate control unit was bad. Apparently, those AC control units are notorious for failing after 20 years (although that's pretty good when you think about it; it is a very old car). I actually found a new one online. It cost about 300 dollars. I installed it myself as they are really not hard to install; at least mine wasn't. The AC has worked perfectly ever since. I believe they still sell the needed part online.

Im the third owner and have only put about 12,000 miles on it after having it for a little over a year now. Just replaced the rack and pinion, and I still need to replace the oil pan gasket. But other than that… that thing runs like a beauty. Pumps AC and heat like no other.

I acquired a 97 Civic sedan with a manual transmission, and absolutely love it! The one thing that really strikes me is how the original stock suspension handles perfect, including the bumps on the road with 157,000 miles. I only had to replace the brake light switch, and from just looking up parts I discovered how cheap they are!

There are no modules on that for heat. Check the water valve - often the cable will come off or the valve is break. Then it will allow coolant into the heater core all the time. The water valve is in the engine bay in line with the heater core hoses. You were so close to finding it at the end of the video haha

Reminds me so much of my first car, got it for $1000 and learned to work on cars with it. Worst thing it ever did to me in 3 years was blow a 25 year old water pump gasket and force me to replace the long overdue timing belt. A few months later a snowplow blew a red light and totaled it, the insurance payout was more than I'd spent total on the car and 2 years of maintenance so I made a profit on it getting totaled. Missed it so much I got an old 5 speed Acura CL and sold the newer civic I got in between. The 15 year old civic was significantly less reliable than the 25 year old accord, and the Acura has been dead reliable for over 2 years, the AC even works.

Hey I just bought a 5 speed 99 acura cl. Any tips for it? Everything works on it, no engine codes, ac is good. Transmission is good but we are replacing the master cylinder here soon cuz it leaks. Other than that no real problems. Anything you'd say to keep it running as long as ppssible?

I have a 2009 Honda civic and I opted to get a paint job (at my local maaco) because of the paint problem and the price of cars today. Love the car, it's my third Honda. not many problems although I heard a slight sound going uphill from drivetrain, brought it to a mechanic and they said I needed a transmission, I took the car back and i changed the transmission fluid while adding something to help declog the filters inside. It's still ok I'm going to drive until it's a real problem just not drive any long distance for now. I'm not sure how long the transmission will last but I'll see. My ac doesn't work either but I just roll down the windows when it's hot, no biggie.

Just bought a 94 Accord VTi AT, I'm it's third owner and it's in immaculate condition for it's age. Everything's original, body and paint is in great condition (Silver with real good clear, original) and it even has the original head unit + 6 cd stacker. vtec hits like a mule and the auto shifts amazing on it. Spark wires have been replaced before and it's up on service, only issue is the speed sensor on it which needs replacing. The B22b1 in it is absolute rock solid, I don't even hear as much as a tick in it, around 200k on the odo before the sensor died with a full service done within the last year.

I had a 2000 Accord much like this one, but paint was still fine, A.C. good. Sold it in 2018 for $500. Car had 395,000 miles, still ran great! As a salesman, I drove 50,000 miles each year. Only sold it because Dad sold me his Honda when he could no longer drive (that one had only 200K miles). Do all scheduled maintanance, change the oil, these cars run & run & run!

Those modules have a part on the circuit board that mess up often and stop the controls. You can sober a bypass and a lot of them will work after that.

You could easily get the ac control panel from a junk yard and charge the ac unit to the correct pressure and fix the ac. And also you didn’t have the high side hooked up. You should always measure both low and high side when checking an ac system

I also drove 99 accord, but unfortunately it burnt oil. Had it for almost a year and in April this year calipers on the rear right wheel seized up. Turned out it cost whole bunch of money to repair plus there were other things going on this car as well like bearings and fuel lines. It's a pity somebody didn't take proper care of the engine before.

The V6 models transmissions had major problems then. The 4 cylinders were great though. And you are right about BMW and those plastic parts breaking all the time especially anything to do with the coolant system. I’ll never buy another one even though I love the way they look and drive.

1998 through 2006. The design changed completely to a much heavier duty ATM. 32 years in the transmission factory.

I have a 2007 CRV 2.4L iVTEC with little over 210k miles, I change the oil every 4K-5K miles with full synthetic. Nothing wrong with the car everything works including the navigation system hopefully it gets till 300k miles then I will buy another Honda CRV

Also as far as it blowing heat. There's a cable down low right next to the heater hoses. Push the cable off the little control arm and turn the flap to where it's not blowing hot air. Will work.

That engine is really quiet especially for one with over 300,000 miles. Scotty has had some new vehicles with less than 10,000 on them and they were clacking so loud you would have thought it was a diesel. I would take that Accord over that Ram parked next door.

The problem with that car and the ac would have been the overload backward feed to The control module, when you shorted it across the battery I could hear the engine struggling to power the ac pump, the pump back fed the module thus killing the controls, my guess would be a power transtor failure and or rely ... I would start by disconnecting the AC compressor to the module first... Change the control module fuse if it has one... If not it will be inside the module itself as a 0ohm resistor... Best guess... I bet it all comes back to life if you look into getting the control module and compressor fixed or remanufactured...

My 1993 Acura Legend 225K..runs like a bandit, just fixed an Idle surging issue, stumbling at Throttle.. simple deal. AC goes, need o-ring seals, luckily got a vacuum pump for $15 used, name brand like new! Now rack & pinion?? Play in front end, may have to live w it. Just go's & go's & is fast as well! We had a black '99 Accord. It ran great until an electrical problem made me park it for a while, then found out that someone stole the catalytic converter and banged in the front fender. We debated about fixing it but with 236,000 miles on it, we scrapped it for $300. Still a hard choice even with those miles.

@@gooby8953 Things cause oil leaks. Could have ran over something. Other times it may not be a true oil leak but the gasket on the oil filter. Oil leaks are hardly a problem.

My 2005 Honda Civic Si hatchback has almost 180,000 miles on it. Yup its a 5 speed manual. I upgraded to an all Aluminum Megan racing radiator with new hoses. I recently installed an Exedy clutch with all necessary service that goes along with it. Coilovers, intake, crossed and slotted rotors with Akibono pads. I service it regularly when needed. It's a fun car to drive and looks good too.

I always thought that the transmissions behind those cars could last up to 200,000. I had a friend that has a 1999 4 cylinder and a 2001 v6. Both of them started to slip a few years ago and the v6 seemed to be sketchy with less miles. The 4 cylinder had 150,000+ of miles on it and was completely in need of a transmission. Maybe it was just a lack of maintenance.

Common issue on the climate control units is they need to have the solder points re-flowed where the harness connects to the circuit board. I had to do that on my 4th and 5th gen preludes. Fixed both.

@@SiteReader hope you get many many more years from that thing. Definitely keep this in mind if you have any strange issues. My 4th gen, all the lights were flickering over bumps or just not coming on… on my 5th gen, the climate control was stuck on one vent mode and wouldn’t switch. Easy to pull out and disassemble since I was following a video tutorial.. but didn’t take long at all and both times it worked.

Recently purchased a 2017 Honda Fit with 25, 150 miles on the odometer at time of purchase and I hope to get at least 100,000 miles out of it before any major mechanical issues. From read I've read and the RU-vid videos I've seen on that model that should be a reasonable goal. So far I love it..great fuel economy (averaging around 44 miles per gallon), plenty of pep for my driving style, comfortable, unbelievable interior room for the exterior dimensions of the car and it is very enjoyable to drive. Getting a 'check tire pressure' warning light but I've kept an eye on tire pressures and they all hold pressure fine. My guess is one or more of the tire pressure sensor batteries died.
