In this video I have tried to explain basic MCDU filling up comprehensively explaning on the same. Note: There is some slight echo on the video due to the simulator itself. But I guess its manageable.
My fly-boy brother, in tears I gotta tell you, thank you, thank you very very Much, your videos are extremely helpful and they are honestly my golden tool at the moment in this process of getting A320 type rated, your videos definitely have helped me to better understand and have a bigger picture of how this bird works. The manuals, FCOM and even the CBT’s can be exhausting and confusing to understand even more when you have only 45 days to get your training done. And here you come, a blessing in the Skies. Brother, thank you again, may the skies be always clear to you.
The one on the mcdu is for the computer calculations. The knob is to set the actual qnh. Both have to be same to keep calculations in check. However small error on the mcdu QNH will not make much of an impact on approach.
VOR maybe somewhere else on the airfield and in an emergency you want bearing to the runway threshold and not the VOR. However putting VOR is not wrong either. It's just airmanship awareness and upto the crew what they want to put.
Hello captain thanks for your videos 😀 just want to clarify some things. 1.) When do we use MDA and when do we use DH in the approach mcdu? I noticed that you inserted ILS on arrival page and then put the minimums on MDA approach perf page. 2.) Is the extra time on init b page your extra time after proceeding the alternate or the extra time on the original destination? Thank you captain
1) MDA whenever you are planning for a manual landing, whenever you plan for an autoland then DH. In case of VOR approach enter MDA + 50 which is called DDA (derived decision altitude). 2) Extra time is the time we have to hold over original destination.
A good thumb rule is first two digits of your altitude x 3 + 15 (25 if expecting strong tailwind throughout the descend). Example: FL350 35 x 3 + 15 = 110 nm will be required to descend
Managed descend plan 15 miles before TOD on ND Selected descend start with V/S-1000 fpm then can go to thrust idle when FMA reads SPEED thrust mode. But all this depends on lot of factors such as traffic, winds, ATC clearance etc
