Just when you think the engines are full tilt, he jams them up another notch.

@iloveairfrance Yeah. I caught that, too. I thought he was at max power at the .03sec mark. Then there's more thrust at .08sec, and yet more thrust at .14sec. This is one of the best engine sound videos out there. Even still, nothing will ever beat the sweet sound of fully amped GE90's - it's like an ear-gasm.

Come to think of it, that A380 has the power of four Vulcans combined. That's sixteen Olympus 201 engines at once!!

Boeing and Airbus are both amazing aircaft manfacurers - if one fails it would be bad for the other and ultimately it would be passengers who would lose out. I think anyone would be proud to work for either company.

@SpartanW98 But I must admit, I so do love flying in the A380. Although at landing I miss the shudder and bumps that you get from some of the older Boeing planes. I think thats why I like landing at Chang'i when your flying in over Malaysia because the steep decent gives me that little thrill I miss out on when touching down.

There are different engine variants for the A380, all of which produce about 80,000 lbs of thrust each. She's very powerful, but she has to be considering her maximum take off weight is 1,200,000 lbs!!!!!
@kenpalmer1965

Wow! That was the blast from that Airbus? It almost sounds like a C-5A Galaxy when taxiing down the runway. Do you know what I miss? Four-engine passenger jetliners. Most of today's are two or three engine jetliners. Remember the 707's and 747's? And the McDonnell Douglas DC-8's?

The airbus A380 beats the boeing when it comes to size. But not when it comes to thrust and speed, as has been pointed out.

@joshuan542 The analog came in 1958, namely the Avro Canada CF-105 Arrow. Years ahead of its' time. As for the TSR-2, that was decades ahead.

For the past ten years Airbus has sold and delivered more airliners than Boeing. Their backlog is currently much higher than Boeing's and they have booked twice as many new orders so far this year. There must be some reasons? Oh, and in terms of fatal crashes for 2011 Boeing is beating Airbus by three to zero.

That steep angle would normally get the pilot fired - it is sucking fuel like a firehose!! But the pilot did some very good PR (Public Relations) - he wanted to show tohe people the shadow of this huge monster plane - not just the tail - edge on!!! He probably got a pat on the back for that one!!
@Earthlinked
@Earthlinked 16 лет назад
The GP7000 turbo fans are engines designed and built by GE and Prat-Whittney - one had great power - the other great fuel economy - so they combined them and made one with no power - bad fuel efficency - gave it to Rolls-Royce - and made the GP7000 turbofan - with great power and great fuel efficency and sold it to Airbus!!!!!!

@aussielung
@aussielung 14 лет назад
@marissalain when you do get to fly in one you'll love it. such a smooth take off and landing you can barely tell the difference. Although landing at Chang'i airport in the A380 can be a little bit hairy because of the steep decent but that makes it more fun for me. I'm just strange like that though. I think smaller planes have a easier time landing on runways like Chang'i.

Janson you are right you cant compare the 380 to the 787... airbus is a fuel guzzler...something Airbus didnt predict to happen when it comes to gaz prices ! next generations is all about speed and fuel efficiency.. Boeing and big size aircrafts ? been there done that .

if thats the case, then why isn't GE producing engines for the A380, RR Trent engines are the best and longest lasting engines on any aircraft flying today, its called British innovation.

from my fying school teacher. anyway at very low fuel a 747 can land at 150 but an A380 can land on very low fuel at 115

@bagpopuk Except that is something like 20 times more silent, and it has the great idea not to wake me up in the middle of the night, unlike the 747. Problem is, as I can't hear it, I can't know when it passes over my house and can't watch if fly.

@buschbeer100 Don't think so. I've flow on the A380 out of Melbourne, SIngapore and Narita and there where other planes taking off and landing from other run ways at the same time. I do now that they can only fly from Airports that have had there gates modified to accommodate the wing span and I have never seen two A380's at arrival gates in the same area before but that could be a coincidence.
@aussielung
@aussielung 14 лет назад
@SpartanW98 I would have to agree with you there. There are some glitches that if not monitored on the A380 can lead to some nasty scares and near misses that the 727 does not have. Qantas had an issue with them just last year and the investigation lead back to Airbus;s tech design. But the actually body of the Airbus is damn impressive compared to Boeing. Boeing will have an Airbus rival soon enough though.

the 747 has that characteristic bump due to the fact that then, the engineers couldnt figure out escape features in case of an emergency. if it was a straight up cargo plane, it would look like the Lockheed C-5 Galaxy. And even the though the Galaxy is just a flying whale, it is still more aesthetically pleasing to look at than the A380. The A380 is as LOUD as a C-5. Is it becuz France FINALLY created an aircraft larger than the 747? If they raise the cockpit, which they wont, then I wont say...
