Today I did a simple test of the stability modes of the A7iii and the A7IV and I threw in the GH5 to boot. A7IV geni.us/hlDAvMH A7III geni.us/O1GMAq GH5 geni.us/Ur9q Contact: markcameracrisis@gmail.com #a7IV #A7III #Stabilization
Nice vid, as always. Both setups are far above my league, but cool to see anyway. Started playing with CB the other day. Man, that must be some badass magic involved. It's awesome. Not too bad computing time either, on my gaming rig.
great throwdown of some great cameras. i wonder how smooth a7iii + ibis & oss + generic warp stabilizer (max smoothness at 1.1x crop) will look next to a7iv +catalyst browse at same crop and a7iv + active& oss. had an a7iv for a while but honestly its new features dont spark the joy lol, so been thinking about downgrading to a7iii.
Have been looking for a video like this for a long time, great work! What lens where you using on the A7iii? Have been on the lookout for a wider lens with OSS
I generally wouldn’t use action cams for photography myself, just video. but the only action cams I would be looking at at the moment are the GoPro Hero 10, the DJI OSMO Action and the Sony RXO ii.
Hi Mark, I love your channel! I've seen a video where it looks like the A7IV FF footage is much less stable than crop mode footage, is that true? In your review the FF + Active looks pretty stable!
That's not fair, you can't use the GH5 that's like the grail of stabilization. I agree, Catalyst is the true solution except when filming at 120fps. BTW, you look cold and is that child abuse freezing your kids?... LOL! Joke! Great video, I hate though because I can't afford the A7IV...grrr... I guess Christmas will have to come early.... oh wait ... my BD is coming up... hmmm.... Thank you again..!!
Catalyst Browse has weird artifacts, where the gh5 looked more natural. And like you said the more updated m4/3s cameras are easily the best. Personally I don't like catalyst browse because there's always some weird jitters in the frame. Not to mention all the extra time it takes to convert, and space it wastes on your hard drive etc. Not the answer. I hope Sony eventually makes the catalyst browse software work in camera. Similar to the gopro and other similar style cameras. Then we might truly have some ibis worth talking about lol. Until then, I'm just Not impressed by any of the so called choices that sony or any other mirrorless camera systems, other than panasonic and Olympus, have to offer.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis true! Olympus has some pretty outstanding recent iterations however. The em1 mk2 or mk3 are top notch. The em5 mk3. The om10 mk3 or mk4? All extremely impressive and honestly tempting me to leave sony and my A7C. I already sold my beloved zv-1 primarily due to the lack of ibis, and honeslty I've been advocating for it since it's incarnation! But apparently ibis is that big of a deal to me when it comes to being inspired or motivated to want to shoot video on a regular basis
@@akyerit I have the EM1 mark ii and while it lacks some video features, the IBIS and the autofocus work great. It’s my all-round travel cam because it does everything well.
@@MarkBennettCameraCrisis out of curiosity, what kind of video features is it lacking? And do you think the mk3 might have made up for the lack of those features?
@@akyerit It doesn’t have HLG or a true log profile (it has one, but it’s not very useable), no 10-bit, the files are broken up into 4min clips, no zebras. I don’t believe any of that is changed in the mark iii unfortunately. But you can still get great video out of it and work around the limitations - it’s just I would choose a camera that had more video-centric features if I was doing a doc or film.
oss and ibis does work together in the Sony system. With a lens with oss, the lens controls the pitch and the yaw, and the sensor controls the roll of the x y axis to create better stabilization than oss or ibis alone
I seldom use anything except the lens OIS, my camera has no IBIS. Also I seldom shoot without some kind of camera support or a gimbal. When I need to shoot handheld, I hand my camera to my wife, she is absolutely the "Human Gimbal" ... don't have a clue how she does it. Cheers.
