Tuned in from the email about updated LUT's for A7S III. Honestly your Phantom LUT's are just perfect for this camera. I've purchased quite a few others and downloaded free ones that could find on the internet. And after a while I've deleted all of them except for Phantom LUT's. They breathe "professional" and "balanced". If you are good at grading the Phantom LUT would be an amazing starting point! When filming the scenes with usual colours (indoors, sunny weather e.t.c.) it looks outstanding. I had to work a little bit after filming in a "foresty" park with no sun, no snow, no leaves and simply non-existent colours but after applying the Neutral LUT and messing a bit with the curves it actually looked ok. I'm not sure any another LUT would make a better job with such disgusting weather and composition.
Hi Joel, just want to say Your LUTS for A7SIII are amazing. I'm enjoying so much the colors, plus I'm much more excited for the post to edit, see and tweak the footage. Thank you for sharing that!

Just saw the latest update email for the luts right now. Just tested them on some old footage and must say they look fantastic and do indeed look more weighty. Loving the textures and colors, especially on prores raw clips. Thank you for the update and support even after purchase.
I got the LUTs a few weeks ago, and they are hands down the best "accessory" you can get for your A7siii. With some vintage or softer lenses and a correct colour balance, the LUTs give me an image that is 90% finished out of the camera ( I just need to match the exposure of the different shots and fine tune the colour balance). The LUTs work great at regular exposure, no need to overexpose. Forget Film convert and the Sony official LUTs, those should be included by default. Joel did a tremendous jobs creating those.
Hey Joel, I've had some time to play with your LUT and I just wanted to say thanks! I'm new to the Sony ecosystem so I was really worried about about the colors, grading slog 3, etc. I've been shooting on Blackmagic cameras for years and have become spoiled with how easy they are to grade. Your LUT is truly remarkable. Assuming I have exposed and white balanced correctly in-camera, I can just drop your LUT on and I'm pretty much there. It will be such an immense time-saver for me as I incorporate the A7S into my workflow. Well worth the money!
I am late to the game on these LUTS and wanted to try them out with my new FX3. With only 1 node doing some basic exposure adjustments and applying the Tungsten Lut... I was blown away. Thank you!

Hi Joel!! I'm about to purchase an A7S3 and an FX3, and I'm very excited because of these Luts. (Particularly the Eastman lut lol.. Absolutely wonderful on everything I've seen so far.). I have a noob question hopefully you can answer easily.. - Maybe it's just the footage I've watched from others, but I've just not seen Slog 3 do anything for skin. Faces almost always look "plastic" if that makes any sense. I feel like it does the best job an A7 can do with highlight detail, but at the expense of flattering skin. (It could be I've just seen several ways it's been done wrong, lol..) - But I'd be curious if there is any advantage to using Slog 2 or a less saturated log profile to cover the base. I'd also like to see an external raw/internal 10-bit comparison with these luts in Log2/3. Thank you!
That's so cool! I have a question... are these luts only meant to bring the clip from slog3 to 709? And can I do colour grading afterwards? Or are they meant to be applied after I've already restored the clip to rec709? Anyway, super video!

Brilliant work Joel. I am a big fan of your work. I had a question regarding applying the LUTs in Davinci resolve. Do you use 'Davinci YRGB' colour science or 'DaVinci YRGB Colour managed' with 'Davinci wide gamut preset'?
I purchased these LUTs yesterday and was happy with the results with neutral exposure. A question about exposure, though: don't I leave lots of dybamic range unused if I dont expose to the right as much as possible?

Thanks dude! I'm not sure if it does have the same sensor actually but either way the colours are quite different - particularly skintones - they're quite magenta and pink on the Fx6 compared to the A7s3 which I aim to correct with my upcoming Fx6 LUTs.
hi joel... when i had the sony a7iii i bought yours slog2 phantom luts, but i just got the a7siii and want to start shooting in slog 3, do i still use the same phanton luts?
Hey man you can use the original fs7 LUTs for the a7s3 if you want but I’d recommend the a7s3 ones for the a7s3 as they’re tailored specifically for its sensor, noise floor and colour science which is quite different from the older Sony sensors.
Hi Joel, quick question. I just both both the Alexa and Film LUTs. For low light shooting, like night time scene with perhaps street lamps and christmas drcorations and billboards being the only light source, should I still use S log 3 and if yes should I over expose it?
Hey man I’d say stick to 320-1280 for the first ISO and then if you need to go higher jump straight to 12800. I personally avoid high ISO like the plague but if I need to use them I stick to those ranges. I’d recommend faster lenses if you’re planning on only using available light rather than higher ISO for best results in general.
Hi Joel, 1st THANK YOU SO MUCH for all of your hard work on these luts.. I started using them on my A7iii. Your luts have really taken my production to another level so I’m grateful for your continued efforts and updates. And recently I’ve been having a blast using them on my a7siii. Regarding the updates should we uninstall previous gens of the luts? Would you recommend disregarding them in place of the new ones or keeping them both?
Hey man sorry I just saw this. Glad you’re enjoying them! Totally up to you and if you wanna store them or just replace them. Once I update the LUTs I only use the latest ones but can’t hurt to save the old ones I guess :)
Perfect LUTS for A7SIII！ but I found the Phantom LUTs looks a bit over-saturated and too dark at A7SIII SLOG-3 night time footage compares Arri's 709 and Sony's 709, do I need to reduce the strength of the lut and overexpose the slog-3 at night time?
Thanks. Do you mean compared to when you put in the arri lut onto the a7siii footage? You shouldn’t expect the arri lut to work on the a7s3 footage so I wouldn’t be comparing to that. And yes you can see even here in daylight that the Sony 709 LUT is very desaturated compared to my lut. My LUTs saturation and ‘darkness’ is matched identically on the Alexa709 LUT as explained in the video.
I'm pretty new to film, LUTs, etc. Is the idea that you would shoot something in log, d-log, etc. apply one of these LUTs, and that's it? Or is using a LUT just the beginning or a baseline and then you need to apply other filters, etc. (or other LUTs) on top of one of these LUTs?

Your luts are incredible! But when I use S-Log to shoot slow motion the footage falls apart right away...starts to get color noise and other things. Before your luts I shot only in HLG, now I want to shoot in S-Log but the slow motion gives me hard times. Any tips how to solve this problem?😖want to use your luts for slow motion as well🙌
Hey man thanks! It’s not the LUTs doing that - it may be the codec you’re using or the exposure level - my advice would be to over expose maybe a little more than usual when shooting slow motion and see if that helps. I haven’t noticed the same problem but I haven’t shot a tonne of slow mo with the a7s3 myself. Also maybe try the legacy versions of the LUTs as they will both help you over expose a little more and also compress the shadows a little more which should help - plus the legacy look really is quite a nice smooth one.
@@phantomluts It is not a lut that does this - higher shutter speed I have to use while shooting slow mot does this problem😖S-Log is great but for slow motion it falls apart really fast with higher shutter speed...I am gonna try to over expose little bit and see if it helps😎thank you very much🙌
I need help with exposing for this. I used the lite but its way to dark and it has artifacting with the colors. Slog 3 and S-cinetone color. Is that maybe the problem? Sorry I am new to this
I've bought the lut while waiting for the A7S3 to come in. However, could you please tell me how are you exposing Slog3? I've seen that the general consensus is to overexpose by 1.7 - 2 stops. But I think I've seen somewhere where it's mentioned that phantom lut can be used at exposure 0.0
Thanks dude - Yeah with the A7s3 if you stick around native ISO, I find its cleaner than my Amira so yeah no need to over expose at all! I even underexpose and push it back in post and find its a very usable image!
Hi mate. No need to overexpose for these LUT's. I use a middle grey 41% IRE point if it's important. But it depends on the situation I guess sometimes it's ok to overexpose a little bit. But as Joel said it's better to stick to the native ISO and I think that's a huge upside over other LUT's since you generally don't have to overexpose and increase ISO.
For that dark and rich/saturated Arri look, would you underexpose while shooting with the A7S3, or expose correctly while shooting but underexpose in post?
This is bascially magic, good job man!! Love it! One thing I'd say though is that the colors from Phantom Neutral LUT looks a tad bit more saturated than the Arri overall? Would there be a way for you or us to reduce that saturation of the LUT by just a teeny tiny bit?
Hey Joel, do you think these will work on the Sony A7C with similar updated colour science to the A7SIII but only 8bit? Also can we get away with Slog2 as the 8bit slog3 isn’t great. Cheers mate. 👍🏻
Hey mate I’m not exactly sure as I’ve never shot on an a7c but I’ve only made the a7s3 LUTs for slog3 so I’d recommend the fs7 Legacy LUTs most likely which have Slog2 versions. I know they work best on the a7iii but not so great on the a7s3
Hi Joel, great job! I got the LUTs for my A7III and A7SIII and they're amazing. The only issue I have is when I installed the ones for my A7S3 on my Atomos ninja V, they look very contrasty. I know you made an Atomos version for A7III, is there something similar for the A7SIII version? Thanks. I use Davinci resolve.
Hey man, Glad you’re liking them - that’s a result of the fact that the atomos are very high contrast monitors. I may issue some monitor versions of the LUTs again. All I did was lower the contrast to offset the natural contrast the monitors introduce. When I get the time I’ll try issue some

The ReadMe details this in depth - but 33x files are smaller files to be used in-camera or for monitoring, and the 65x files are used for editing and contain more accurate colour informaiton

Hi Joel. I'm thinking of buying both for my a7siii Quick question. I must first convert the slog3 to rec 709 and then add the phantom lut or all this will work directly with the LOG of the camera? Are they all autonomous and independent?

Hey man, thanks so much for the kind words! The A7s3 and A73 are a somewhat awkward mix as the A7s3 has the newer sensor and colour science with lower noise floor, a little more and DR and just better colour in general and I made the A7s3 LUTs specifically for it. The a73 is 8 bit and closer to the older fs7 sensor in my opinion, so I recommend people get the Fs7 LUTs for the a73 but matching can be tricky as I never made the Fs7 LUTs exactly for the a73, but the fs7. It's definitely possible but just takes a little extra tweaking. If you do get the Fs7 LUTs for the a73, make sure to never shoot slog3 as it stretches the 8 bit codec too thin, though that's all discussed in the readme. Cheers
Hi Joel, I bought the Arri LUT for the a7S III and I'm not sure if I'm encountering a problem or not. When I load the Neutral LUT on my Ninja V for monitoring and expose, I get a green tint on the shadows. My camera is set to the correct profile (SLog-3/SGamut3.Cine). I've tried to put the color phase to +2 to counter this but I can't get around it. Do you have any suggestion on what I did wrong ? Or is it just the calibration of the Ninja ?
Hey man, - I've never used a Ninja V before with my LUTs - so not 100% sure. I haven't heard of this issue before though and a lot of my users do use the Ninja V. Is the green tint recorded into the file or is it just while monitoring?
Hey Joel, I figured it is a monitor calibration issue. I've tested the LUT on the Ninja in many different situations and once I apply the LUT in Resolve I don't get this green tint. Just a slight one (sony's color science I guess) that is easily fixable. By the way, would you recommend a SmallHD monitor or an Atomos one if I only intend to monitor what I shoot ?
Hi Joel just purchased the atomos shogun 7 as I use the sony a7s mark ii so I want to record straight into the monitor recorder using an ssd. Im just a bit confused with the PRE LUT for the shogun. if I wan to bake in the utopia LUT for shogun how would i be able to use this pre LUT ?
Hi Sarjo - no you need to use the ones made for Fs7 and yes - do not use slog3 on a6400 as it puts too much stress on the 8 bit codec. Slog2 will be fine: www.joelfamularo.com/colour-fs7
Try them out and see if you like the look. They tend to look over saturated, a little distorted and too contrasty. The a7s3 LUTs are tailor made for the colour science, the extra dynamic range, the lower noise floor and the white balance characteristics of the a7s3 sensors. Up to you man!
The A7s3 is an amazing camera man! I'd buy it for sure. I will be using it as my main B Camera with my Alexa Mini I'm buying soon and I'm super confident it will match very very closely. With its improved rolling shutter performance, incredible DR, low noise floor and tiny form factor its like almost too good to be true. Plus its batteries last over 2 hours which as well as all the other things I just listed, means it leaves my P4k for dead and if you really want RAW just get a Ninja V and record prores RAW which looks incredible from everything I've seen.
@@phantomluts I have also seen elsewhere that setting color phase to +2 when shooting slog3 on a7siii will help produce better skin tones but I'm assuming that if using your LUTs, I should just shoot I the basic stock slog3 settings?
@@stolencoats63 yes I leave all slog3 settings default but you’re free to play with any settings you want. I find if ever the image is a little green I just correct in post.

Hi Vitaly, I don’t agree with Gerald on both things - the exposing 1.7 stops over and changing any camera settings. My LUTs are meant to be exposed naturally with no need to over expose as the new a7s3 sensor isn’t noisy at all. Also the LUTs correct green skintones.
I understand that you don't have to ETTR and that 50-65 IRE depending on SLOG2 or 3, my question is does it matter what the other PP settings on the sony cameras are? Should saturation, detail, or any other options be changed from default settings?
Interested, considering to buy. Question how LUT will affect the image if I make some tweaks internally, for instance if my setting Color Phase is set to +2 and or push up black and or set a detail from -7 to -3 (all in S.log3). Do I have to readjust the LUT accordingly and then save it again? I just want to make as much necessary adjustments as possible in camera (for instance color phase to +2 in order to get rid of green tinge) and then use any LUTs and color grading. Maybe this is a noob question because I'm a noob in color grading...
Yes it would effect the image for sure. I’d recommend just use slog3 default settings but you’re free to use whatever settings give you the look you’re after. . Adjusting detail won’t effect anything other than sharpness. I don’t think you’ll have to worry about green-ness with the lut. It’s very neutral.
@@phantomluts Got it. But is it possible to readjust the LUT (myself), will it be intuitively easy to tune a color phase, black for instance? So that when LUT is applied, result would be the same as if the footage was with slog 3 default. Because I'd rather don't use default slog3 settings since I'm not always gonna be using a LUT.
@@The22Century I’m sorry I don’t know what you mean by ‘tune a colour phase’. Anyway no I recommend using slog3 with these default settings. But feel free to experiment :)

The core idea is to make a viewer feel "involved" , feel the world - not cinematic, but more natural and vibrant. Hey! Just expose as you want it to appear in post. No need to over/underexpose (unless you're going for a specific look, or are trying to minimise noise in lowlight). Additional info is in the downloadable ReadMe!
Yes that's the idea and then you can grade from there to taste but usually they get the footage to a very natural place to start with so often not much grade is needed, depending on the look you're going for.

Hi, many tests have shown that over exposing the image will reduce noise. Should i over expose the footage then in post first lower exposure then apply this luts. Appreciate your answer. Thanks
Depends what you shoot. If you shoot normal youtube videos, shoot overexposed, as suggested. But if you're shooting hollywood-style narratives, then shoot at normal exposure, because you don't want the shadows to be visible anyway. Film could not see in the shadows, it would just black them out. And it's how blockbusters are graded today too. Besides, you always end up adding grain on top, so the noise becomes part of it. I personally never denoise. Only youtubers with boring travel videos have equal highlights and shadows and they denoise the heck out of it. Films aren't graded that way.
From side by side footage I’ve seen - no. The colours seem quite different. Especially when I watched potato jets video on the fx6. I’ve pre ordered an fx6 so will know when I get it but I am assuming I may need to start again from scratch to align it with the Alexa sensors colour science. Will see.
@@phantomluts Yeah on Potato Jet’s video specifically I noticed on the side by side comparison with the C300 iii his black t shirt had a heavy magenta hue to it. I hope that doesn’t mean the Fx6 has an IR leak. Alas if you make some of these for the Fx6 I’ll definitely buy them!
