KiLl3R Mem3StAR and in some sense,a7x did embrace that. Because you look at songs like planets, acid rain and the entire stage album and they have a proggy feel.
There is another documentary of the band just before they went to record the self titled somewhere on youtube and the rev is as crazy as ever in that xD
The Mystical Emerald Listen to requiem. No way in hell that song isn't metal. Probably the heaviest you can get before you have to start adding growls and 8 string guitars.
***** ehhh I don't know about that. Nobody really knows what they were 15 years ago because they pretty much started the whole screamo/hardcore/punk thing. They definitely don't have the same thrashy punk sound anymore. Sounding the Seventh Trumpet was hardcore, Waking the Fallen was just really melodic and progressive metalcore, City of Evil was hard rock with many classic metal vibes to it, only God knows wtf the white album was, nightmare was more metal than anything but there was some metalcore in there, and HTTK was definitely heavy metal. But, those are just my opinions.
Actually for me personally I found Waking the Falling is one of their best work ever, it has that emotionally calm taste but at the same time its pure evil. I love it.
Jessie 11 Same man, same man. This band is just to good. Everyday I'm in school one song just pops in my head and I sing it in my head the whole period. XD
Well he still wrote a lot in the songs! But never a whole song alone before self titeld.. wich is kinda sad cause he truly was a mastermind in writing and making music!
He also wrote parts in songs? but he never wrote an entire song before the white album.. So no he did contribute more than just drums in songs! Just search it up! :)
Man, I'd do anything to travel back in time just to see these guys live in their early days. Wasn't even born at the point where they started, but still. I'm so proud I got the chance to see them last year. They're awesome.
Wasn't even born yet... This blows me away. The sheer adrenaline as the fog machines filled the room and we lost our minds in anticipation in a small room in Orlando. Time do keep on slippin.
I saw them in '03 in a little club in Iowa for $12. They played with Opiate for the Masses, The Red Chord and Alexisonfire. Absolutely changed my life watching Syn play the solo to Second Heartbeat right in from of my face. And they played I won't See You Tonight part 1 and 2!
For my 16th birthday, all I wanted was the A7X discography. I grew up listening to A7X, through middle school, into high school, even now. I've seen the band progress into something amazing. And recently, I started watching all of the behind the scenes footage on RU-vid, and I have to say you guys are my inspiration in its entirety! I truly believe that you guys are the "Metallica" of my generation, because in 20 years I will be jamming your songs with my daughter's saying, "This was daddy's JAM when I was your age!" Zack and Syn, you are both my fav guitarists and my idols! Keep shredding, keep doing what you guys do best, and stay together as long as the tread hits the pavement! I love you guys, every album, and every moment you have been in my life! #A7X4LIFE
I may be wrong but to me, it seems like Avenged is the Metallica of our generation. They've pretty much made hard rock/metal popular. They're easily one of the biggest rock bands around right now. Just like how Metallica was in the 80s and 90s. That's just my opinion
+Justin Sane they have more talented guys than metallica they had the rev a very talented drummer and a song writer and synyster gates is just wow adding matt shadows the best vocalist today
yeah seriously. soooo many people would have never really heard this type of music and have been so attracted to it. they made metal attractive again for a long long time. it was unique but they didn't even NEED to be unique like a korn or a slipknot or something. they could make songs like hail to the king or nightmare or afterlife or something that can be pretty generic but still just kills because of their group chemistry. THE metal band of the 2000's. and the 2010's too kinda. it needs a refresher on their level.
Is it weird that I feel super proud of them? I mean, I've been listening to this band for so long, and seeing where they are now and how far they've come gives me a sense of pride similar to seeing a close friend or relative succeed. I love them so much.
Would've liked to hear them dust some of these songs off in honor of the anniversary... I'd give anything to hear Remenissions, Desecrate Through Reverance, Clairvoyant Disease, and pretty much the rest of the album live! I know they brought back Eternal Rest for a little, but I want more! haha
Ya they don't play anything other than Ch.4 and Unholy Confessions from that album anymore. It pisses me off cause A7X is one of my favorite bands, but they only play the greatest hits at every show anymore.
Dustin Nelson Oh I know. Their setlists have been boring as fuck for the last few years. It's all singles and hits. Nothing in the set left for the real fans, unless you want to listen to "Critical Acclaim" and "Welcome to the Family" a dozen more times hoping that you might catch a show where they play "Second Heartbeat" or "Eternal Rest" or anything interesting at all... How do these guys go up night after night and still have fun playing "Afterlife" "Nightmare" and "Buried Alive." Bands would kill to have their discography, and Avenged lets it go to waste. They stopped catering to the die-hards when they started to become an arena band. They changed the setlist up every single night on the "City of Evil" tours. The self-titled tour was the start of the strict "one setlist per tour" routine, but even then they managed to sneak in "Remenissions" and "I Won't See You Tonight, Part 1." "Nightmare" on has been a snooze. I've been seeing this band live for over a decade now, and 30 something shows later, I decided to skip my first one last year (Mayhem Fest) because I couldn't honestly sit through that setlist again. They cater to fairweather radio fans only, and it's a shame. They really need a small club tour with an exciting setlist to wake them up. Watch a live video from 2014 and watch one from 2004. They're complete statues on stage now.
Tom Whaley Oh my God man you just summed up everything I've been feeling lately. I wish they could see this thread and take note of the fans who have been around for more than 5 years.
Dustin Nelson haha yeah, it's a shame. Even the audience and atmosphere at the shows has completely changed over the last few years. It's just weirdly not as fun as it used to be. Kids in camo hats wearing "Welcome to the Family" shirts and cheering during "Nightmare," and then standing completely still during "Second Heartbeat." It just doesn't feel like Avenged Sevenfold anymore.
***** Yeah! That was a great touring year for them! They had tons of energy, had some pretty cool setlist additions, like "Brompton Cocktail" and "Remenissions." Actually, "Remenissions" was 2007... Same touring cycle though haha
They touched on something in this I've come to regard as an inescapable truth of the universe. One on the scale of Newton's laws of gravity, or that all life must end- The fact that Avenged Sevenfold fans are the best fans in music. It's a postulation that is undeniable. In my lifetime I've seen a lot of wildly popular bands come along with their huge fanbases-Metallica, Guns N Roses, Nirvana, Tool, etc.-but there is nothing like an Avenged Sevenfold fan. The passion we have for this band just means so much more to us than it does to anyone else. The shared devotion between band and fans alike is valued equally, and is reciprocated by both parties. I don't know if it's because the overall Rock/Metal genre is unfortunately becoming a fossil these days and A7X is now the last great American giant carrying the banner for the entire genre, or what the extra incentive is within this unique dynamic. But the intensity within an Avenged fan is a phenomena on a whole 'nother level comparatively. It's inexplicable. Yes, music itself is universally loved by humans everywhere, but for some reason it's just loved and valued a little more within the heart of an Avenged fan. There's nothing else quite like it in music nowadays. It truly is a rare phenomenon that only comes along once in a generation. Treasure and appreciate it while you still can folks- because sadly, we may never see it happen again.
Baris Gurel Dude, I don't even know who the hell Opeth is, or any of those other obscure bands no one gives a damn about. Who in the hell cares about Norwegian and Danish metal? (Also, are you really going to say that you consider all rock bands who do drugs are automatically shitty bands? There'd be no one left to listen to if you subscribe to that theory) .... You obviously didn't pay attention to this video because if you had, you'd have seen the dedication and intensity of A7X fans way before any "mainstream success" was ever achieved. Besides, do you realize how illogical your argument is? Of course Avenged Sevenfold's fanbase swelled with their mainstream exposure and success within the industry. That's because every successful musician/band gains more fans that way! The better you are, the more fans you're going to attract. That's how it works- it's common sense. No band starts off as a nightclub circuit act with millions of followers worldwide on day 1.
a7x is one of my all time favorites. your passion is really cool, but there are plenty of bands or famous people that have rabid fans. its not really fair to compare that.
Britton Thompson How on earth is it an undeniable fact? Please show me the official chart that shows how great the fans of all the bands in the world are. I love A7X, but it's ridiculous to claim that they objectively have the best fanbase. Also, I don't see why it matters how great their fanbase is. I'd rather a band be incredible and have 3 half-fans than be horrendous and have 3.6 billion die-hard fans.
Dude, I agree wholly with you until you called Opeth an obscure band that nobody cares about. I love me some Avenged, but putting out statements like "Who in the hell cares about Norwegian and Danish metal?" truly turns me off. Chances are, Avenged are huge fans of Scandinavian metal, I'd bet my entire life savings on it. Aside from that, I do agree Avenged fans are truly a commendably dedicated bunch. Rock on!
I'm in the same situation right now. My band plays small shows but nothing too big right now but I think we can do it. Best of luck to you my friend! I hope to listen to your records someday!
Can you go back to not knowing what you were doing? Hahahaha... I miss the intensity, passion, and grit that shown brightly in this record. Hands down one of my favorite albums.
Even though Jimmy’s been gone for 10 years now. I still expect to see him in avenged videos like this and music videos. And not just a video of him. Miss you Jimmy 🤘🏻
Jimmy's monstrous drumming makes WTF a great album. And knowing he did all of it in one take since they didn't have enough money to record it properly with high tech etc and all only makes it crazier. It had punk, rock, metal and all kinds of complex yet melodic drumming magic. A master of speeding it up and slowing it down to let the songs speak. He was a genius artist. Not just a drummer. A candle that burns hundred times faster than the rest. I was 10 when i first hear them and that was it. Jimmy made me a drummer and a writer. Channelling my pain in a positive way and really changed a huge part of my adolescent years. Miss you foREVer buddy. Miss you like a close friend although I live halfway across the planet from USA. It's strange but wholly beautiful.
Man i can believe it's been ten years, i remember getting the cd when i was a little kid and i was instantly in love. I know my parents hated it but i didnt care. I knew you guys were gonna go far and im glad to see you have. A7X foREVer.
I just love their energy at their shows when they first started, all of them headbanging but now its rare to see that from them but still, they are amazing!
This video inspired me a lot. Thank u Avenged sevenfold, tbh they helped me a lot in getting through my tough times, listening to their songs always makes me feel better. I can proudly say I own all of a7x's albums and records and I knew every single lyrics and songs :)
This was a big album for me when I first started playing guitar about 14 years ago. Recently I've been going back to older songs and re-learning them and stumbled across a bunch of Avenged stuff I used to jam with a drummer friend of mine that was a ton of fun. Playing them brings back great memories from a way better time in my life. Thanks to this band for all the great memories
Damn. Can't believe its been this long already and look how far they have come, I remember listening to WTF when i was 13 and thinking holy crap there's nothing better than this, but with every new album its just spot on, they never stray far away from their original, true sound and I love it.
I miss Jimmy so much, it was so unreal when he passed...I didnt believe it for a few days... They definitely changed after Rev passed, but they're still good. I can only imagine what they'd sound like if Rev were still here. foREVer
Thanks for uploading this bro, such an amazing album. I was expecting some videos of the recording part, but I'm agree with this. Hope they start playing more songs of this album live.
Avenged Sevenfold UK Thanks, but I had seen it before :), I was talking about seeing Matt singing the screaming parts or some Syn solos, but thanks anyways, cheers!
Read: My first song, heard by A7X was in February 3, 2009 When I was 5. It was Nightmare. My friend, Justin, showed it to me. These were his EXACT words: "You should hear this. This is my favorite band" I listened to it, I go home, remembering the name of the Band. I never listened to them, because I forgot the name of the song. I go back to Justin's house, We played the Wii (not a fan) then, I asked "What was the name of that song, yesterday?" He said: "Um....Nightmare." I'm like "Thank you, so much!!!!" So, that's when I started listening to A7X, on February 3, 2009. You're probably saying: "Well, I think he's lying, because he's only 10! Ten year old's don't listen to Heavy Metal & they can't spell that good!' Well, you don't have to believe me, but it's true. You can go ahead & think: "He's a Pedophile! Keep away! Block him! Ect, Ect." Yeah, yeah. Blah-Blah. O.K....well, I'm just a 10 year old who has an interest in Avenged Sevenfold. :D See ya!
Ary Alejandro Salas Herrera No he just simply wants to type, and post a story that doesn't force you to read. He has very exceptional grammar considering his age, so please; keep your rude comments to yourself.
Back when I was 15…20 years ago…2006-ish…I saw the video for Unholy Confession on The channel Fuse. The guitar part at the end gave me chills. Anyways, there was no way to ever see the video except on TV. Before social media. So I would get up at 3 am, on a school night, knowing whatever Fuse tv show was on that late, and I’d watch the Unholy Confession video. I think I finally recorded it onto a VHS tape. My emo self neverrrrrrrrr would’ve figured they would become such an insanely popular band. I kind of liked them better. I preferred Matt screaming. I just couldn’t get into the Metallica sound. Waking the Fallen will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart.
martin hernandez Pude traducirlo en portugués , porque lo hablo . Pero yo no hablo español puedo entender lo que su diciendo I could translate it in portuguese, because I speak it . But i dont speak spanish i can understand what your saying
Waking is truly Avenged Sevenfold. The songs in this album are never to be compared to others, all unique in their own way. They were so young, but created a masterpiece. Proud of being a fan. (Please put Diamonds in the Rough on Spotify you hear me???)
I used to question why old metal heads used to get angry when one of the big 80s bands would release a remastered classic album. My newer ears would think it sounds better, but their veteran ears would hate it. I never understood it until I heard Lamb of God's "As the Palaces Burn" remastered. I listened to it for 10 minutes before I just thought "what the hell am I listening to?" It's not even bad or awful, it just sounds bizarre. Like someone was doing a really good cover, but a cover none the less. So with that said, I'm glad this wasn't remastered.
MrJv123jv Jesus, why would it be? Even 'Sounding the Seventh Trumpet' sounded amazing, in terms production. But Waking The Fallen sounded even better! So there was no need to remaster it, as it was pretty awesome since the release.
The perfect friends with the perfect abilities making music at the perfect time capturing a perfect feeling. The fans were all experiencing this same weird time and experiences. This album spoke to us perfectly. And we'll all recognize each other forever. How bizarre
They've been my all-time favorite band for over a decade. I discovered them when I heard blind didn't chains on need for speed most wanted. They were already signed to a major record label but this video makes me wish I could travel to the past and see them live during their beginnings. Oh well. Glad they're around anyway
5:58 Wow, I have a photo with Synyster Gates with that exact hat on from Warp Tour SF 03. Funny I saw them play behind a bowling alley in Salinas before then. I’ve always known then A7X would become great. Crazy 20yrs later and I’m still listening to them.
I didn't become a fan of A7X until I heard one song. Nightmare, I loved how it sounded and started off, instantly hooked since that day. My buddy had the self titled album that he let me borrow and I loved that cd as well. I've been fortunate enough to seem them play twice. Both times without the rev though.
Snakeyes11123 I actually started with Dear God back in 4th or 5th grade, then forgotten about them until 7th grade, somehow. During that tims, i grew tired with the overrated pop songs that sounds very shallow and repetitive. The name Avenged Sevenfold suddenly poped to my head despite only knowing them for some metal band that plays Dear God and one of the member being dead (R.I.P The Rev). Nightmare was the first song that I listened to since Dear God and i immediately got hooked to the song. Then I listened to the usuals (Afterlife, Unholy Confessions, Bat Country, Second Heartbeat, etc.)and heard Carry On in the Black Ops 2 ending and started becoming a mild fan of them. Due to being a recently pubertized confused teenager at the time, I re-grow my liking of a few pop songs, but still manage to keep my status as a mild A7X fan. It was only untik the start of the 10th grade I lost my interest at pop songs again and blasted A7X in every speaker I can find. This time, I learned the heavy shit of A7X that is the 1st album, every song in WTF oher than Unholy Confessions, Beast and the Harlot, A Little Piece of Heaven, M.I.A, etc, and for a period, I only listen to these motherfuckers before trying out other metal and rock bands. Needless to say, A7X is the only band that I can say to be my number 1 band, and the only band that I practically know every basic thing of
