M. Shadows calls the writing process for “Save Me” a disaster. See why in Part 1 of its Breakdown Directed & Edited by Rafa Alcantara Produced by Alex Reese & TWENTYFOURCORE Productions
There's a specific way that Matt's face lights up when he talks about/remembers Jimmy, you can see it all the time once you notice it and it's wholesome AF. Even better watching videos from _before_ he passed and thinking to myself, "Hey, that's the look Matt usually has when he's talking about Jimmy, what's making him smile like that right now?" and then realizing he's looking directly at Jimmy right then. 😄
I think some bands would just embarrass themselves cause they have no where near there production level and number of tracks and textures that sevenfold work for
I love hearing them talk about Jimmy because you can tell they were legit friends and not just band mates. I love that these guys just seem like normal people in these videos.
@@Hzim007 I still think this is their best song to date. Yeah sure City of Evil is their greatest album in a whole, each songs is different and feels colorful, but this song still hits me so hard, especially with Jimmy's passed. Great arrangement, great lyrics, and also great drum from Jimmy's favorite drummer mr. Portnoy. All I can say this song is masterpiece and put some special place for me.
4:21. Wow glad to hear Rev wrote those vocal harmonies. I love that part so much. Rev was such a genius. This song is a masterpiece, and one of the best Mike Portnoy songs ever.
@Outcry_ They've changed, but I wouldn't say they went downhill. Nightmare and Hail to the King are both amazing records, and The Stage and Life is but a Dream are both amazing prog metal records.
@@Outcry_ They didn't, they just went forward. They probably realised their classic formula wasn't working anymore because Hail to the King was an abysmally stale and uninspired album, they just decided to let go of their metalcore, hardcore, heavy metal roots if necessary and embrace a more progressive style. Which was always within their songwriting before, it was never assumed as a general tone of any album before the Stage
@@Outcry_ you’re speaking from ignorance …. they have progressed so much while still keeping their staple sound … The Stage and LIBAD have so much Rev influence it ain’t funny and was a natural progression to where they were heading even if The Rev was still alive , if you disagree then you didn’t really know them anyway … the only blight in the catalogue is HTTK but I think the band then was truly lost without The Rev and his input
I'm so fucking stoked we're getting a breakdown of this song. I legitimately think it's one of the best songs they've written. Wish it got more recognition.
Besides being a good friend to the band, I bet he probably felt honored being able to express/explore the musicality and mind of the rev... probably some big and very strange shaped shoes to fill but from what you hear in the album, it was definitely out of love for his friend
It's just sad that DT left him alone, replacing him with another "Mike". If that "Mike" sucks then Mike will come back, but "Mike" also doesn't suck and fits the band well.
@@XFTFX portnoy left dream theater because they just had to many giant egos(including portnoy himself). Mangini's chemistry with the rest of dream theater, especially Petrucci and Rudess is much better than Portnoy's
Of course you're talking about Portnoy. But I find it funny that we also see Mike Elizondo, the album's producer, in this video. That Mike is a legend in his own way, check him out.
10:03 - the best part of the video, Matt's voice, Syn's guitar and Jimmy's chorus, even i'm on the other side of the screen i could feel that warm nostalgia, thank you so much, guys
RmNaNtCbScRrN basically everything before he passed away he did the majority of it and even a bit of stuff after he died they used I.E. this and fiction but everything was from jimmy lyrics beat everything.
@@dedo7326 The Rev didn't do the majority of things before he died. I'm not saying he wasn't involved or something like that; I'm saying that all the members of A7X contributed a lot during their songs, but of course, The Rev had his masterpieces(In which, in fact, he did the majority), like A Little Piece of Heaven.
NUK3CY4N1D3 :v no what I was saying was most of the revs parts were don’t or at the very least a basic outline a lot of it was redrummed by mike but it was most of what the rev already did and a lot of the songs they did as a group the rev cane up with and they had to figure out how to acually make a guitar part from a drummers head.
@@dedo7326 Not true. Jimmy died before they finished this song. They literally said in this video that his demo lasted up until the first pre-chorus and they had to figure out a chorus and the rest of the song
Please do "4:00 am" too. We need more of this breakdown. *There comes a day when we all find out for ourselves that once we have the words to say, there's no one left to tell* . This hits me hard, especially listening to it in my college dorm.
JustEPIC I agree! I do not understand how 4 am did not make an album? I just discovered it by having a7x on Spotify one day, and it suddenly came on. I think it is absolutely fantastic.
Please touch on Diamonds in the Rough songs. (Until the End, The Fight, Dancing Dead, Demons, Crossroads) Also, these songs as well: Victim, M.I.A., Trashed and Scattered, Blinded in Chains
@@afif_sz cause it was an extra cd that came with the dvd "live in the lbc" I'm thinking it was only meant to be a bonus when you bought The DVD but Matt tweeted a while ago that it isn't on Spotify for a reason🤔🤔🤔
I truly think Mike did more than record drums on a record for them…he helped release a killer fucking record, and potentially dug them out of what must’ve been a horrible time for the band. Props to all of them for carrying on
"Save Me" was the greatest conclusion to an album ever. After the first listen, I didn't think anything could come close to the epicness of "Fiction," but I was wrong.
I keep forgetting how genuinely nice these guys are compare to the music they make Its just so cute but also gives you that warm feeling in your heart knowing they're doing what they love doing
The Rev is the reason why i fall in love with music, Avenged Sevenfold was the very first band i fall in love with. After i knew he was gone, i didn't eat, didn't go outside for two weeks. It's like another soul have left my body, i wish that i could visit his grave. One day i'm sure i will
It's funny how the song you guys had the most trouble making are the "Fans Fav". Hopefully we can see a breakdown for: Sidewinder Victim Exist Coming Home Creating God Blinded in Chains
God yes, I agree with all of these songs lol. It’s so fascinating and fun seeing all of this sort of behind the scenes stuff along with them looking back and discussing various things.
My favorite song ever not just by them. The classic intro, the blues verses, the hard rock chorus, the melodic solo and into the heavy metal ending half is a perfect song for some soul mixed with heavy.
I think my favourite thing about these Breakdown videos is getting to hear about the process and journey of them from the beginning. Hearing these anecdotes adds so much in the way of creative texture- and not to mention it makes me so happy to see you guys looking back with such excitement and fondness despite the struggles and pain which came with this specific record. My favourite band for so many reasons beyond just the music.
Hearing them talking about Jimmy the way Syn was is nice. This song is so legendary. And seeing that Syn especially knows a lot about in depth music makes me appreciate them more. He has a great ear
Man I fuckin love this series!!! The mix between the analysis of the song and the story behind what they went through to write it, amd the memories!!!. It's just amazing
Thank you so much for uploading a breakdown of this song! Arguably one of the greatest song you guys have ever written. Cant wait for part 2, love you all and hope you are enjoying your time off from touring at the moment!
Except 2nd heartbeat might be a little difficult for them because they were in Hopeless records. And apparently anything made by hopeless records you will get copyrighted on the spot. Even the first 10 seconds of Unholy confessions will get anybody copyrighted
@nicoloco9974 I know. I'm confused just as well. I have a separate channel where I do Anime Music Videos and I tried a million different ways to do it with Unholy confessions. Yet I still got copyrighted on every single one. Even tried one in Drop B
@nicoloco9974 true. And I tried. It didn't work. And if you look up waking the fallen, it's all on the Hopeless records channel. I looked at all the A7X videos and there is nothing with it
this song SAVED my dad from drug addiction. I read the lyrics to him in the hospital, hoping it would save him. It did and since that day has been sober for 8 years.
When Syn says ''towards the end of his life'' I lost it. Clearly, after watching this video you can only say that Jimmy was a fucking genius. I wish he could've seen the final result. So sad to watch the ''behind the scenes'' knowing he was gonna die not long after... foREVer.
You guys rule! I am thankful you guys have started this series and invited us into this whole other side of avenged. It’s so cool to sit here and learn about this stuff too. Great series! Rock on! 🤘🏼
It's so awesome that we're getting a breakdown of an older, non-single song. I'd love to hear them talk about Second Heartbeat or And All Things Will End next!
Just seeing the guys break this down its absolutely amazing I've always wanted to see all the bare bones of this song. It's so beautiful and sad at the same time. This will always be one of my favorites from them
I believe Jimmy is credited for 5/11 songs on the album from what I've seen. (Welcome...; Natural...; Tonight...; Fiction; Save Me) But I'm sure every single song on the album has something from Jimmy's mind played in it. The album as a whole is pretty much a tribute to him.
Well they've already done critical acclaim in the dvd they released. Other than almost easy, given how much of that was written by jimmy, i doubt they'll showcase any other songs from that album since it's all pretty much documented and picked apaet already.
I'm pretty sure the episodes are all already filmed. The guys are wearing the same clothes in several of them, so they probably filmed them all in a period of a few days.
God bless you guys for facing the pain of Jimmy's absence and the hole in both the band and yourselves time and time again, and never saying "its too hard" or "i cant go there". The fact you do "Fiction" live is a testament to the MASSIVE FUCKING NUTS A7X let swing. \m/ Oh, and "I Wont See You Tonight pt 2" or "Eternal Rest"... por flavor. Hell, how bout a breakdown of Retrovertigo, or even just footage of Jimmy rocking out to Stubb A Dub (you know theres GOT to be footage of that!)
One of my favouritee songs, you can really feel a lot of emotion in this song. Not just because of the circumstances they were in whilst recording it, but the true nature of the songs themes and the way its composed. Got to be in their top 5 of all time. Also you really get the PROGy feel with the long winding intro and the length of the song (hmm funny how Mr. Portnoy played on it xD).
Wow, they actually listened to my comment on Beast and the Harlot part 1. I requested this song to be on breakdown and my comment got over 1k likes. Im amazed that Sevenfold listens to their fans as much as they do. This video just made my day
It's one reason to love them. They always care for their fans, no matter if on stage or in the interwebs. That's why they are my favourite band, they make great music and have great character.
these breakdowns are a true show that they don't just release garbage, they release quality and while some songs may not even be good there is still absolutely a massive amount of passion and quality in these songs
An honor seeing this footage of the song's time in the studio. Very special song and material was written those days. Would love to see more of this series with other pieces of work you have tackled. Higher, maybe?
