Exactly. She’s a horrible person as a character. The entire point was she slept her way through college and almost immediately upon becoming licensed she got manipulated and brainwashed by her first big patient, Joker. Her only merit is she’s hot, and some of her antics are cute because she’s ignorantly so.
While I agree with you 99% there are still gaming communities where people are severly out of touch. WoW purists who played classic for the 26472th time or hyper casuals/elitists (both hardcore ends of the spectrum) and another example are Destiny 2 elitists who want everything to become even harder and more competitive.
You know who's always right? On average? The customer. Game companies will continue to lose money as long as their devs continue to live in this delusion.
One man in his basement creates kenshi with his writer (his sister) and amazes everyone, all made on an ancient gaming engine. Meanwhile AAAA gaming company goes bankrupt for shitting the bed.
Passion projects are usually always amazing. Jesus though 12 years for a single dev is INSANE. I know Astlibria Re:Divison was made in 6 years by 1 dev.
The game is the best because it doesnt function as the player being the center of everything. Its world doesnt care if you the player get eaten by desert goats or get GR by a swarm of blood spiders in a swamp. It also have one of the best method of spreading around lore that it had become one of my roleplay as a wandering ronin with the goal of learning what happened to the world in my latest playthrough. One of the best things i found is that Kenshi is actually set in Post Post Post Post apocalyptic. The clues, journals and books i found told that the world ended four times in a "short" amount of time, consecutively. 1st through space war, 2nd by rebellion of AI, third is war between AI, and fourth is the rebellion of humanoids(humanoids, not humans, dont want to spoil why). The lore isnt forced into the player but instead lets the player find the lore for themselves making it very good for RP aspects or even storytelling. No playthrough are the same. Its more enjoyable and much more immersive than when i search for lore in souls games.
I quit gaming like 8 months ago. All games have been so bad lately. Maybe ill be back when new gta comes or something. I hope they learn from this, propably not but hopefully
you can blame a lot on people who buy these garbage, which incentivizes Triple A to make more garbage. Biggest example is Starfield, AC Shadow, the new CoD games and Overwatch 2. As asmongold says himself, if it looks like shit and smell like shit, it would probably taste like shit also. However, a lot of people happily eat that shit and want more lol.
But they've already hired a DEI consulting company to adapt the game for modern audiences. In fact, the game development team is already filled with employees and game developers hired for their expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion. To them, this is much more important than the quality of the game
companies forgot who their customers are. it's that simple. alot of these companies actively hate their customer base, which shows in the final product.
They do because we've let them forget. People have been warning gamers in particular about letting companies get away with this and what'd it'd lead to, but I can't count how many deaf ears my warnings have personally fallen on - and I was only talking about strictly the corporate angle, I don't think any of us really anticipated how heavily ideology would worm its way into the industry. In any case, they get away with what we let them get away with. That they've gotten this far is testament for gamers being as sheep was far truer than not, but I'm glad that finally a lot of people are fed up enough to put their foot down, I'm just disappointed we've collectively allowed it to go this far.
Notice during the Summer Game Fest, if it wasn't a remake or a create-a character, the main character for each new game was a female lead. Why do studios think they have to do a female lead? Seems like an oversaturation.
Because it's part of the larger issue in the world meant to push people I to the chosen political path to destroy the current system and create a new one with more central control. They create the problem so you'll beg for the solution. These people aren't stupid they know shoehorning a minority pet DEI is bad for business, they're playing a long game. The billionaire club all works together to achieve a common goal.
i think its weirder that you even noticed there were female leads, and calling it oversaturation when historically it only has ever been males on first itterations of franchise is straight up disingenious
@matoiiveyy2005 Its almost like gaming has been prodimently male driven and popular games are generally action oriented. There is no issue of women in gaming or media. There have been plenty of killer franchises with female leads, Tomb Raider and Metroid come to mind. The issue is forcing females into roles just because theyre a female. And you know this is happening, stop hiding behind your imaginary highground. If you were really as progressive as you want people to believe you wouldnt care about this at all since men can be women and women can be men whenever they want
200m budget for garbage games... Lol, sounds like they pocket the money and try to get back the budget by scamming players. Its very rare now a days for me to be hyped and intrigued at a game, these days its more of skepticism, doubts, and most likely ignore ir. Gone are the days where the AAA companies are passionate at what they do without the bullshit and propaganda and all of that. It is why majority of the games we loved back then are being remade. Before it was simply, "Games are the work of the devil" or "Games make people violent." now. "You play hogwarts legacy? you're supporting anti LGBT." or "You're not playing Life is strange? You're not supporting diversity." You can't just sit down and enjoy a game without someone shoving down their shitty opinions down your throat. Yet these same people are not even playing any games. Lol. They need to pick up a hobby and focus on themselves more.
200m isn't alot. These studios have gotten way to big and on top of that the developement times have increased like crazy even for mediocre games 5-8 years. Back in the day tiny studios filled with gamers and ~2-3years of developement time created iconic games.
BINGO The budgets are going to salaries and not the product. Higher ups take the money and say do this or do that, but you only get this much to do it. Oh and we're letting a few of you go, sorry not sorry.
This makes me realize that gaming is a trash business venture. Huge investment and a low chance to be part of the 1% of games that people love. We need more gamers in the business sector of these companies
It's cringe when done wrong, I don't remember people complaining about Cere or Trilla in Jedi Fallen Order, only that Cere was uncanny to look at (which I agree)
The investors are... the incentive for execs to be greedy. The investors are hapless money bags that are having their investments squandered. The executives calling the shots are the blame.
This is not death, it's a NECESSARY reset. AAA is where greedy suits n ties are. Eventually the investor greed will leave and passion will remain once more.
I've been hearing about an "inevitable crash" and a "reset" for the last 10 years. It ain't happening. The younger generations have been programmed to eat slop and ask for more. Just look at the massive runaway success of Baldur's Gate 3.
I laugh at anyone who says "modern audience". If you ask people to describe it it will never be the same awnser except from people who think its bullshit.
@@NuchiAsaki Call of Duty and FIFA have looked the same for like 20 years now, they would buy the same game 20 times as long as it isn't actively repulsive
Not really, for every Palworld there are literally thousands of indie games that are failing miserably. We just don't hear about them, because they are small indie games and nobody cares. Meanwhile, if a big AAA like Suicide Squad fails, everyone on RU-vid makes 10 videos about it. If we talk percentage wise, A LOT more indie games fail compared to AAA or big budget games. Also, like they talk in the video, most indie games are made by a few people, sometimes as a side project while they work their day job in parallel. They have a small budget or they are crowd funded and they can afford to do whatever they want, because they don't lose much money. And if you have thousands of indie developers trying new things, a handful of them will succeed and become famous and millionaires. Meanwhile, the rest will go back to their day job and never make games again
One game, two words: Vampire Survivors. The massive success of this game demonstrates how little most gamers actually care about graphical fidelity. It is merely the icing on the cake, but only if the cake itself is already delectable. Most AAA games are not.
These are hit or miss games. The big companies have many investors. Every year they want to see a roadmap of the games they have in stock. And I think this is one of the main issues with modern gaming. Big publishers dont develop games anymore that are for gamers. Its about to appeal to investors, who are not gamers. Thes people probably never had a Controller in their hands. For them this is just a market with shit ton of money in it. So these investors look what is popular and want a piece of the cake. There is no creative vision anymore. Today Indie studios are the ones who bring innovation. Big Devs only follow their formulars. And its all about the annual investment. If a studio doesnt deliver, it gets closed. The western Gaming industry is hyper capitalized. So no one of the big companys wants to risk something.
This shit is the biggest boogeyman of gaming. It’s such a small part of what makes some AAA suck. People are so addicted to feeling morally righteous that they find whatever war they can to fight endlessly while the real issues carry on around them.
It's the biggest cope. "The game is bad because of Sweet Baby Inc". No, the game is bad because the game is bad. The devs you thought you liked are bad devs. "No, but Sweet Baby Inc forced them to be bad". That fault lies again with the devs. Sweet Baby is a grift, they don't "consult" on games for free.
The industry went to shit well before that. A decade of trash games from Blizzard under Kottick and game leads who could all pass off as his son. People like Bobby Kottick laughing to the bank as you misplace the primary blame. Yes SBI sucks, no they aren't the reason for all these trash games. But people like Kottick and Phil Spencer sure love the fact you are avoiding the real problem as discussed by this actual youtube video.
When the person that commented "I left cause you're a douche" and Asmon said "good", I got an add that started by saying "Finally something we can all agree on." I'm fucking dying.
Well, when there is no more talent left since most talent was pushed out of this industrie or pushes to the indie scene then you can't expect good games from them. It all started when these companies got too big. They started to cutting costs and started hiring cheap contractors. The talent had to take care of those. The teams got way bigger which ment everyhing was chaotic and a single person didn't have as much influence on the game as in the past with smaller teams. Then the DEI hiring started. Now you have even less talent and people which don't even know anything about gaming. How you do you expect them to make good games when they couldn't even care less about the game they create, most of them care more about pushing their agenda then creating something good, for example look at the movie industrie. Instead of writing compelling and interesting stories they rather push their garbage.
Developing a game is a game of resource management. If you put all of your effort into one thing, something else will end up underdeveloped and neglected. Games that focus heavily on shooter elements tend to be weak on story and/or dialogue. Simulation games tend to have great mechanics, but the graphics become lackluster. Games that focus on woke and messaging have a habit of neglecting the development of the game part of the game.
My wife is a die hard assassins creed girl and she isn’t touching the new one. I set her up on ghost of Tsushima and she’s talking about replaying the ezio games now
problem is that many people are like i am which is totally opposed to being forced anything even if youd want it otherwise.....if theres a pizza sitting there and i CAN eat it i probably will but if you force me to eat the same pizza it will NEVER happen and why? BECAUSE IM NO ONE'S DOG!!
Asmon is the "modern audience". The video before this one is literally him creaming himself over a bunch of AAA garbage and sequels. Black Ops 6 for crying out loud.
Who would've thought that pandering to people who weren't going to watch or play your movie/game anyway and calling a large part of your fanbase names and telling them they're wrong for liking the things they like, would hurt sales? Imagine that. What a wild concept, whoever could've seen it coming from a mile away?
When a CEO makes more money in 1 year than it costs to hire and maintain a staff for a decade, you have a problem, and it isn't the devs.. Edit: I can see why the gaming industry is shit. Apparently, everyone supports CEOs making 34,000% more than the people who actually do work.
@@nopers369 You're trying to paint a picture where the problem with these mega-budget AAA disasters involves them giving bonuses to a CEO rather than putting in even more money for development and developers. In reality none of those games could be fixed by solving what you're complaining about. The inconvenient truth is that its a systemic problem. The bigger these studios get and the more money is in the project the more there are people simply trying to justify their job at all levels, people trying to make no waves, and people just working for a paycheck. In a lot of ways the game industry is turning into the restaurant industry. The ones with the biggest revenue, most restaurants, CEOs with big bonuses, etc... are all fast food garbage. They make their money through advertising and convenience of purchasing not by quality. No one who goes to work for one of these big boys does so thinking they'll be making great food.
And people like to support the price increases, spouting about "how games been $60 for years", failing to realise that games are more sucessfull than ever, depending on the game or franchise they are raking billions in the first month alone. I did a quick search and acording to Wikipedia, Super Mario Bros, launched in 1985, sold 58 million copies to this day, Red Dead Redemption 2, launched in 2018 already sold 63 million, doesn't look like it but it's a huge difference, we talking about "the most famous game of all time" taking 20+ years to sell that, versus a new game taking 7 years to surpass that, or even Helldivers 2, launched this year, and according to Sony it already sold 12 million copies in 3 months. Not to mention GTA V with 200 million sales since it's launch in 2013, but i did not want to include GTA in my main example cause Rockstar is milking that game as much as Bethesda is milking Skyrim lol. All this talk of "increasing gaming prices is necessary" is just CEO's wanting even bigger salaries and yearly bonuses, a lot of histories of companies breaking profit records, only for half the team be fired the next week, this push for $70-$100 priced triple A games is just greedy CEO's wanting more money, the devs are getting none of that.
Top three problem of AAA are: 1 Bloated budgets 2 Pushing The Message having activists in upper management and insulting their core gamers 3 Not taking any risks anymore, just bland and safe staff that no one wants.
They fail because they push for broad appeal, just like pg-13 movies. Thing is there is still niche games/movies being made and being successful, it's just the fact that they're niche that they don't get the noticeable coverage. Wasteland 3 and Aliens Dark Descent were fantastic games, but no one covered them as being successful. AAA does just want money, they want ALL the money.
Honestly probably more games ruined by nepotism hires than DEI hires. Although both are bad and probably not the main reason the industry has been sucking for the last decade. That falls down to corporate greed, launching unfinished games and DLC to finish it on top of horrible monetization.
@@jimqjordun6431 looking at flopped games in the last 5 years where good writings and gameplay designs take a backseat in order to push certain political agenda, i think it's safe to say it's 100% caused by DEI hires in the first place.
Asmon hit the nail on the head with audiences basically just seeing a female lead and writing off games now. Just look at the xbox showcase....how many were female leads? 90%? There are coincidences and there are patterns. At this point it is a pattern.
Laura Bailey also hates the state of games now days but she has to make money. He you downloaded her updated mod that adds all new lines recorded by her....soo damn good.
@@SurvivenTerry Could you please name the mod? Wanted to get back into Skyrim for a while now and I'm currently looking for some mods to add to my playthrough ^^
I’m not even a huge fan of the games, but but I grew up with them. They’re such a huge franchise within the industry and it looks like a cheap mobile game. Too bad. Just glad they’re not fooling anyone.
It looked like a Redfall trailer. To be honest though, Inquisition was ahead of the curve of wokeness. It was one of the first games I remember playing and asking myself why the women looked ugly and so much was gay.
I think the answer here is simple. Two very particular things happened that ruined this industry. 1) Companies learned all the wrong lessons from Mobile and free to play gaming........then believed those lessons learned should translate into AAA gaming. 2) Larger conglomerates buying/controlling game studios. The BIG decisions are no longer made buy an impassioned developer who is a gamer. Instead those decisions are made by the corporate overlords interested only in pushing the envelope of profit.
@@ChezMclegend Na. It's money. The idea is to make the game as broad as possible. So as many people can play and then spend more money in the microtransactions. Gaining them the most amount of people that don't think. And just spend on the money in the shop. Those of you that go Dei and woke bad bla bla stuff.(Cuz you would have done that before to say it's woke) Are likely to not spend money on the shop cuz you look up the things before hand. So your not going to fall for the fomo traps. So your not the targets. So they don't care if you cry about it. If anything it drives more people too it. Since more people are talking about it.
These are not AAA games. The only meaning of AAA is simply „is expensive“. Most of these games are garbage. They just waste the money. It’s still a trash game. Doesn’t matter if you waste 100 mil. on it.
Imagine future historians observing this timeline, and seeing giant corporations wasting hundreds of millions $ on flops, prioritizing 'the message' over earning money.
Warner bros is doing the same thing to Scooby Doo now too. Making a Velma show where only Fred is white and Velma is now a strong brown protagonist. Shaggy is black and goes by Neville, Daphne is Asian. I could care less about their races but I just know they're doing it to push race politics that my 6 year old who attends a very multicultural school, doesn't need to be subjected to.
I think you missed the issues with Velma entirely, this wasnt WB forcing inclusion, this was someone with an edgy fanfic take on Scooby Doo they put out there for the sole purpose of pushing peoples buttons
I really don’t understand these changes either. If you’re gonna have racial representation, make diverse characters. I don’t think characters with established designs should be changed because people felt like it or thought ANYONE would like it. Guarantee that even people of colour don’t support changing the race of a character. No one asked for it
i think my new practice is gonna be, "i wont tell you what i think is wrong with your game" if theres something about the game I dont like, im not gonna buy it and i wont say anything
0:12 Just because one or two flowers survived the fire doesn't mean the whole damn forest didn't burn. The industry could be dead, but a few individuals usually make it out.
@@APeopleP3rson VPN so you don't tell everyone on the internet that you are doing bad things. Torrent client for downloading game torrents for freezies. Peerblock for blocking bad people without the MASSIVE slow down of your PC like with all antivirus software. And i think the "= 🖕 AAA" is over explaining it.
The only Assassin's Creed game I ever played was Odyssey. I spend $60 on the game, and then ended up spending an additional $10 on the "permanent xp boost" because the default exp felt too low. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, that I haven't touched another Assassin's Creed or any Ubisoft game since.
I agree, in fact, I imagined that the reason why these game studios were dying is because they appeal to a very niche audience which isn’t going to make you money. Although people getting fed up with the micro transactions would also be a major culprit.
The western gaming industry right now reminds me of when manga started taking over the american comic book shelves in bookstores. It was 50/50 manga and comics, now it's 95% manga and 5% Marvel/DC comics because that's what sells.
im absolutely willing to pay more than $60 for a game, if the game has no micro transactions. Id easily drop $100 on a game if it was just that good on its own… “if” is carrying a lot of weight here
If they have problems with the Man / Woman MC in games why not make it like Mass Effect... You just switch up some things and you can either be the male or female... And you can play whatever role you prefer. Mass Effect had it since 2007
If Nintendo was more chill with their copyright stuff, they’d be unstoppable. That’s like their one big flaw. I rarely see anyone complain about Nintendo that doesn’t involve copyright stuff.
The same Capcom that had that leaked presentation, and creating Marisa and Eternity in SF6, while censoring Cammy and Chun Li? Also both companies have DEI on their websites, they're not 'killing it' at all.
@Cubeytheawesome also hating anything competitive sucks balls too. They literally killed the smash scene....well, the smash scene killed the smash scene too but you get what I mean.
Not AAA games only stupid company that force politics (especially woke ideology) looking at you bioware ubisoft rocksteady and more will go broke. Meanwhile Bandai namco just break their turnover reccord just make good fun games that the point of a video game.
the recent game shows all show a lot of indie games that don't take risks, and nobody's going to buy them nor play them. indie games aren't just good because they're indie, they're good because there's a creative aspect to them.
It's actually more space for CN gacha games, which are immune to US wokeness. Western indies aren't safe either, it's a coin toss if their games are normal or not, plus as other comment mentioned, they're usually understaffed.
My grandpa (when he lived) mentioned cars used to have coloured wheels as a fad for a while. They got more and more expensive, with more maddening materials put into them - including silver, gold, platinum and other precious mixtures. Then people started feeling the cost-to-cool ratio was terrible when they had to change tires and the entire thing died in almost an instant. I feel gaming is walking on the same track right now.
@@davidduarte1269 Yeah and they still reported record sales for the company when they first launched D4. Turns out, the gaming community is full of idiots. "A bad game is a single 3 minute cinematic away from being a good game."

How bout this for a hot take: *• Bad games that no one likes, won't sell.* *• Good games that people like, will sell!* It's not rocket science. It's natural selection. Will the AAA gaming industry fall? No, it's just gonna shrink.
i watched the shows last few days and like 98% had black female protagonis, or asian, only men i remember seing were Solid Snake and guys from Gears of War, and lot of games looked like pastel clay animation, oh and i forgot the Doom guy, ok so i remember 3 male heroes from about 60 games. games are no longer for dudes, they are for female streamers

I was born in the 90's and if we're going by fast food prices everything has generally doubled, maybe 2.5x. So OoT's budget today would be roughly 25mil
Yep. But I think the baffling part is that Black flag was already a thing and had solid ship combat and pirate gameplay. So how did they make something worse? Literally just expand on black flag and everyone would've been happy.
I think E3 ending was the death of AAA games, once companies didnt have to face on-the-day competition to not look shit everyone stopped having to try.
10 years for a game that resulted in $200 million in losses is insane. If I were Rocksteady I’d be fearful if I’d even be able to get to make another game
Haven't purchased a Battlefield game since Battlefield 4. That launch for those who remember was an absolute shit show. And seemingly every launch since has been as bad or worse. EA is one of the worst publishers of all time and completely untrustworthy.
you know we always say these are focus tested made games, but I'm really curious about what focus group they're using, because it really doesn't feel like a general audience is even their target audience for many of these games.
We are also reaching that point of diminishing returns with AAA level Graphics, Scale and depth. The jumps in graphical fidelity and scale of games made between Now and lets say 2014 is much less than the the jumps made between 2004-2014. How many of us have played games made 6-10 years ago that look and play better than games coming out now? The Witcher 3 came out in 2015 for example. It's becoming cheaper and cheaper by the day to make games that LOOK better and are LARGER in scale so while AAA+ games will continue to make graphically cutting edge games with big open worlds but also blande/safe art direction, terrible gameplay and micro transactions, Indie companies can continue to innovate and focus on gameplay while having more and more options to ALSO make their games look graphically strong, visually unique and affordable.
I didn't not buy Suicide Squad cause Harley wasn't as hot as she was in the Arkham games. I didn't buy it because it looked stupid to play, and wasn't worth the money. Matter of fact I found Harley pretty excellently implemented concerning her role in the story. But watching gameplay of her and the other characters does not look enticing and that's why I didn't get the game.
You can literally make a trans character in BG3. Nobody cared because 1)product was good and 2) it wasn’t a focal point for any of the gameplay or narrative. There is nothing wrong with a character who happens to be gay or any polarizing identity. It’s only an issue when the identity becomes the reason for the character or narrative to exist.
Some people would says that the developpement started without the dei hire and that why it couldn't be carried through the finish line but that you can see the worsening of quality as act progress
People keep bringing up BG3 as a defence when the biggest thing about BG3 is that you can create your own character, youre not playing as a self insert of the writers.
when a “AAA” game has a $10 higher price tag every year it comes to a point where people just say enough is enough and stop buying expensive trash. i for one rarely buy games at full price.
No one minds spending 90 dollars for GTA 6 or Baldur's Gate 3, but who wants to spend 90 dollars on games like Suicide Squad or Skull and Bones. Not every game can pull off premium priced sales, most can't.
The problem I have with diversity in the west for the gaming industry is that it’s forced onto us and the western countries are tired of diversity and are going against it. I’m white and I obviously expect a lot of games from western industries to obviously be about white characters majority of the time but now the only time I do see it , it’s a woman who’s white but the funny thing is the gaming community is atleast 85-90% male.
It's no longer 85-90% male. It's actually more along the lines of 45% female, 55% male. It's the difference in game genre. Men are more drawn to hardcore action packed killing spree games like Call of Duty or God of War, whereas women are more drawn to immersive fantasy and role playing games like Stardew Valley or Animal Crossing. Don't believe me? Google it. So when these developers try to make these hardcore action packed killing spree games more political and family friendly... they are alienating the core audience dominated by men, and trying to include women who were never interested in the first place. Double whammy.
I think AA games today are the AAA yesterday, so doubling the price is more than enough for just 1 A. So the "4 A" should be double than AA games since the AAA is priced double, then I can't be such a thing at the time being since Cyberpunk, NMS, RDR and others didn't achieved that.
It's not necessarily that people don't want to spend more money for games, its just that majority of the games aren't worth the ask. Games like GTA 6 sure will break that upper price norm of current games tho.
Movies work the same way, too. You used to have a basically guaranteed blockbuster just by having a large budget, household names, and some special FX. Today, the bar is much higher to get people into the theaters and big movies are getting thinner and thinner margins, or even sometimes losing money. There are so many movies, so many games, making a new hit is a lot harder than it was 10 or 20 years ago.
If they made games for the people that actually bought them instead of the people that they wish would, then they wouldn't be struggling so bad. These people are making games with tons of other people's money and dont care about the IP anymore, and if people buy them
I can see it now. In tes 6, the first time you break a lock pick, you'll get a pop-up telling you that you can buy a temporary unbreakable lock pick for 99 cents that lasts a day. Or when you break sneak a pop-up appears offering a temporary sneak buff for like one dollar.
Woke is not the existence of gay, trans, diverse characters. Woke is the message a piece of media tries to present to the audience. We're at the point where any game/movie that includes diverse characters is getting lumped into the woke pile along with actual rubbish media that only exists to push the creator's narcissistic worldview. What these people have done is irreversibly ruined the inclusion of diverse characters for many people to the point where if we see that a product contains a diverse cast we immediately assume it's rubbish.
Agreed, but it's not even messaging, it's signaling. I.e. the ones writing the checks aren't ideologues, they don't care. It's just marketing to maximize profits. As the demographic of gamers opens up, they're just trying to figure out how to tap into those new audiences.
Things go down in price in the tech world. My parents got a calculator for a wedding present, it was a major gift. Now they come in cereal boxes. Most devs are copy pasting stuff people coded years before in different companies. Now the average person is able to do it with unreal 5 etc.
