Off the top of my head Deleware is one of those teams that has better attendance numbers than most G5 schools.and should have moved up a decade ago instead of playing coy I guess JMU leaving them behind is the final incentive they needed.

If Tulane wins give the AAC a B. If Tulane loses, probably a C. I have never liked coaching moves at this point in the season, and the NCAA's rules are making the situation worse. I agree with your comments concerning Oregon State. I believe that they will move very quickly on naming an interim HC, and giving the DC some security assurances to motivate him to stay and help stabilize the situation for the next 2-3 weeks. Navy is not eligible for a bowl going 5-6, as the game with Army is after the season, which actually includes this coming weekend! Navy and Army have insisted on playing after the season is over, which I believe to be insane. They would be far better off making that game the first game of the season, or playing the game on Thanksgiving Day or possibly Labor Day, or even on November 11. The current game date is bad for the AAC, and the AAC needs to do everything within its power to get them to change the date of the game.

I think this is devastating for the PAC-2. We were at the Civil War game Friday, and the Beav fans already knew Smith was leaving. Some were crying. Their fans are crushed. As a Duck fan, I feel horrible for the school, the students, and the fans. They don’t deserve this. Things won’t ever be the same in Oregon. 😢

I thank Jonathan Smith for what he did as a player and head coach, but he handled his departure terribly. I don't blame him for leaving, even at this time, but he handled it in a manner that made a lot of people lose respect for him. Screw him for those comments, leaving literally 12 hrs after the final game, and not giving the university some more time to figure things out (even a weeks heads up would be appreciated). The players reaction to him leaving says a lot about how he handled it.

@@rumblingcds I agree, something changed. What could OSU do that they haven't done? They tried the B12 multiple attempts & they weren't biting. They are waiting on the courts, no way to speed that up unless they give in to the teasonists ten departing demands. He didn't want to drop down to the G5 level & took the best offer currently available. The PAC2 have to work on winning the first part of the court decision before they could proceed with anything. After the won it went to the Supreme Washington Courts, PAC2 went directly into getting a schedule together for 2024. OSU president had placed an offer of a raise for both Coach Smith & his assistants 2 months ago, and kept him up to date with the progress of the PAC2 and its desires. The PAC2 are committed to spend as a P4 schools and to rebuild the PAC. He said (Smith) that Corvallis was his dream job and a nice, quite, and safe town to raise his kids. I wounder what East Lansing is like? Maybe he loves it, but not enough for the challenge and his words to OSU, its fan base and his players. Loyalty & ethics do matter, but for him they have a price. To a lot of people, including me, those values cannot be bought. As an old retired NCO of the Army, I would never do that to my soldiers, co-workers at jobs I've had, or teammates back when I played. Coach Smith handled this poorly and crapped on his school, player and fans. He should have handled things better. When did he interviewed? He has known for a quite a while. Did these things limit his commitment to the team? OSU president was trying his best to retain his but Smith was not biting. Interesting but half of his assistants chose to stay in Corvallis and don't want to go. Def coordinator Trent Bray is the odds on favorite to get the job. BTW, OSU is already having de-commits. So IMO eff J smith, he will not ever be welcome back at OSU. Also, the uo ducks were playing the MSU game on the large scoreboard as the Beavers were warming up prior to their game with the ducks.

I'm not an OrSU student or fan, but imo Jonathan Smith leaving for Michigan State tells me so much. #1 It's really all about the money. Coaches continue to chase the money, and loyalty doesn't exist in college football. #2 Smith knows that OrSU won't be able to keep the ship upright without compromising to become a member of the MWC, and he wants no part of that. #3 OrSU has got play things much closer to the vest if they want to keep their coaching staff in Corvallis. It may be understandable why Smith left, but it would be silly to believe that Beaver fans shouldn't be upset and feel betrayed in the most blatant way possible.

To answer a question you asked last week; I do believe an undefeated conference champion Liberty University could be placed ahead of Tulane or Toledo. I would not be surprised if the bottom four or five CFP poll from 22-25 or 21-25 will be all G5. I think if Liberty goes undefeated, they could match them against Tulane in a NY6 game possibly and definitely an option if Miami Ohio wins MAC championship. I have been busy and been watching college men’s and women’s basketball. On the hoops side of both men’s and women’s I think a damn good squad in both men and women basketball is UNT. Keep an eye on them. Back to football, this season was extremely dissatisfying and disappointing for AAC. The non conference schedule results were terrible and only having 6 bowl eligible teams when have 8 bowls tied to put in if no team gets NY6 and then 4 additional bowl games that could slide into if other schools in other conferences don’t meet their bowl requirements. I say my Grade for AAC is a C to C+ and just barely passing, but C- or F is deserved. Just because NY6 may go to AAC one more time, by far and away the SBC vastly superior and best G5 Conference two years in a row. I think this Tuesday could go like this: 22: Tulane 23: Liberty 24: Toledo 25: Miami Ohio I don’t think SMU gets ranked and nor should they. They got two cracks at P5 schools in non conference games this year, and SMU got crushed by three scores by both. Liberty played no P5 but also no FCS schools either and three of their non conference teams got bowl eligibility. Toledo and Miami Ohio split against their P5 non conference opponents this season, and if both Tulane and Liberty lose conference championships, then fail safe to save CFP Committee face will have the winner of the MAC get the nod for NY6. Troy wins could be ranked as high as 24 or 25, but the other four I mentioned will be above them.

A&M went with the expected hire in Elko. Utsa likely can breathe until Pittman gets fired next year. Will Tulane fans be sweating fritz leaving for Houston or Duke? Houston is Fritz’s territory, and Duke which is a p4 carbon copy of Tulane except they have the talent finally to be a winning team right now and is a sort of forever job(see how long they kept cutcliffe) if you’re a competent coach, similar to Kentucky with mark stoops.

The difference with Liberty pulling guys and the AAC schools not named utsa, Tulane, and Memphis trying to pull guys, is that Liberty was already good and Jamey chadwell was established as an elite G5 coach, and Liberty has proven they can find the right replacements when his staff inevitably leaves for the SEC, likely the gamecocks. Going to any of the non elite AAC programs is a massive risk compared to going to Liberty, JMU, Troy, App St, Boise St, UNLV, Fresno St, even SDSU, maybe even SJSU because that staff is just so established. And even for the AAC elites, fritz and traylor might be out the door by 2025 and Memphis hasn’t looked this questionable since before Justin fuente. The AAC is going to have to prove they can build programs when historically these athletic departments(other than Memphis and long ago USF, who both have declined just so significantly) have struggled outside of landing one good coach, even the ones that have been in the AAC since the beginning.

Trey, I have 2 things. The 1ST is on AAC results. The 2ND is on the rest of the your UnderDog Podcast. 1: I underperformed on my 2023 AAC forecasts. I emailed you the hard copies. I equaled last season’s 67% Overall. I was over 80% on OOC games. I was over 59% in AAC games. Only Army-Navy OOC game is undecided. I picked Army. The AAC grade is a B. The AAC even in a rebuilding year is still the NY6 favorite. This pulls up the Conference headed into 2024. We need more OOC wins. SOS has to count more too. 2a: OSU and WSU made a big mistake. The PAC12 media presentations told them their S**t was weak. This should have meant as soon as USC and UCLA bolted, they had to go B12. They thought the PAC12 could backfill. This was trying to draw an inside straight flush, especially with Apple streaming. How can anyone blame HC Smith for leaving. It took a B1G dumpster fire at Michigan State over gambling on a PAC2 rebuild. I predict the MWC will expand by 2. Temple got kicked out of the old Big East even after trying for 10 years to go All Sports with their nationally ranked (Top 10 for 10 years). The PAC2 will be the G5 programs they are. 2b: The AAC Champion will be ranked above Liberty based on SOS by the CFP Selection Committee. 2c: The AAC needs better MBB competition to gain overall respect. I believe Memphis is lagging because of the AAC. Temple plays a Big5 pod game with LaSalle on Wednesday. It will determine seeding for the Big5 Mini Tournament which starts on Friday. The AAC has 11 teams over .500, 1 team at .500, and 2 teams below .500. We are close to the BE and ahead of all other G5s. However, I do not have a Quad breakdown. Rankings are influenced by Q1 and Q2 wins and close losses away in Q1 and Q2. Any Q3 and Q4 losses hurt, especially at home.
@michaelwall3393
@michaelwall3393 10 месяцев назад
No way the AAC gets a better grade than C+ or B-. They did bad this year across the board. The SBC has been the best and strongest G5 two years running and not debating this as facts and results prove that. The AAC must do better.
@stephensipe5405
@stephensipe5405 10 месяцев назад
@@michaelwall3393 I guess SOS does not mean anything to you in formulating your opinions. The top Sun Belt teams played only 1 P5 opponent. Almost all AAC teams play 2 P5 opponents. Of course, overall AAC records will be skewed by these tougher opponents. The Sun Belt has to up its game. The top MWC schools played 2 P5 opponents also. I could offer you a rearranged football scheduling format, but would you be ready for that kind of radical rebalancing while still maintaining Conferences?
@rangersking6699
@rangersking6699 10 месяцев назад
The committee historically has waited to see how backups perform before penalizing teams. That’s why Ohio state made the playoff with Cardale and why Florida state, should they win vs Louisville, then they will make the playoff as well. So I don’t see why they would penalize SMU for beating Tulane with their backup.
@michaelwall3393
@michaelwall3393 10 месяцев назад
SMU is not going to get ranked. They got bitch slapped twice against P5 competition and most likely the committee will have Liberty and Tulane ranked one after the other and then the next two G5 teams most likely to be ranked will be Toledo and Miami Ohio. That way should both Liberty and Tulane lose, the winner of the MAC gets NY6. The AAC was bad this year by a lot. The grade should be an F but C+ or B- is realistic and not too much cushion for the shortcomings of the league as a whole. The AAC should have 8-10 bowl eligible teams not barely 6. There are 8 guaranteed bowl games with a couple to give way should one team or two make NY6/&/or CFP4 and assume will be similar next year with playoff expansion to 12 teams. If Liberty wins they should be rewarded for an undefeated season with a NY6. You can’t say anything about strength of schedule because the CUSA teams bested many AAC teams in regular season in non conference games and can’t control who is in your league. Their non conference slate had no FCS schools unlike AAC teams but also had no P5 teams and all upper echelon G5 ducked them. Liberty tried to get better non conference games but most were too afraid to schedule them. Those are facts not speculated opinions. If SMU beats Tulane they are not jumping Liberty if win CUSA or winner of the MAC. I don’t think SMU should quit scheduling two P5 or P4 teams in the future. But schedule no FCS or transition to FBS and get two solid G5 schools on schedule if possible and win in dominant fashion even if lose both P5/4 games in non conference play. SMU struggled to beat a bad La Tech at home no less. So no to SMU getting a NY6. SMU would have to hope Liberty loses, Miami Ohio wins in an ugly fashion and lose some key players that will not make NY6 bowl in time, and Troy lose SBC championship for SMU to get the nod. That all could happen but don’t expect it.
@rangersking6699
@rangersking6699 10 месяцев назад
@@michaelwall3393 Liberty beat absolute nobodies and it took them until the second to last week of the regular season to make the top 25. SMU will have the chance to pass them if they beat Tulane on the road. Argue with a wall. Also, SMU did not struggle to beat La tech at all. That is bs.

I mean, the feeling of the Nation is hurt, especially with all the assistants going with him and the possible floodgates come the transfer portal. I personally do not blame him, I just wish the news and rumors had waited until after the Rivalry game. It would have been MUCH closer had that news not leaked. But from what I have seen, we are just hoping to get SOMEONE for the bowl, that can keep the players around. Possibly another Alumni who is our current DC. but yea, it is rough to be a Beaver, but we should turn it around when we move to the non-power4.
