It’s funny how Aavaros’ personality is so charismatic that you forget how much of a threat he could be later for everyone. Nice writing of his character.
Aaravos also presents himself as a servant despite clearly being the one in control. Nice way of gaslighting people into thinking they're the ones calling the shot.
He's kind of like how Sauron was in the Second Age, if I recall correctly, manipulating Viren by exploiting his fear of humanity's downfall at the hands of the elves, and then later Claudia's fear of loneliness, like how Sauron manipulated the the elves by exploiting their fears of change to provide a solution of permanent stasis in the rings. He convinces others to take his gifts, and it all helps further his ascendancy. Claudia was ultimately more malleable in that her fears were more grounded and personal, less existential than Viren's fears, eventually allowing him to turn away from Aaravos at the end of Book 5, while she has...not been doing well.
2:14 We all expected some deep, brooding thousand-year old arch-mage villain, never losing his composure, never succumbing to emotion, but he just sounds so sulky about the whole thing that it's adorable.
I love that little running gag since while we know that Viren is talking to Aaravos, from an outside perspective he very much looks like he's loosing it.
In fairness... he is a *star* elf. He should know how to navigate by stars. Tell time by stars. The fact that he doesnt know where he is... implies there are no stars
@@bookwyrmofthenorth He's got to be trapped in some kind of pocket dimension. No matter how heavily warded, Aaravos would have been able to break out after being stuck there for centuries if he was just being held in a hard to reach location. If I were the archdragons (And I hope these powerful dragons are at least half as smart as me) I would have created a prison that cut him off from all the primal sources (No large bodies of water or landmasses, no real day and light cycle caused by the sun, no winds, and most importantly, no way to reach the stars).
But he’s never actually lied or killed anyone (excluding Anak/sol regem.) All he does is really manipulates and lets humanity do the rest which is the funny part.
Lol, when I saw the art for this guy, I went "The guy's not THAT hot! Why is everyone going crazy for this galaxy looking twink?" But then I heard his voice. Lol- NOW I understand the simping craze for him! XD Also, the voice actor who plays this guy also voiced Koh, the Face Stealer, in Avatar the Last Airbender.
he is obviously based on Sauron, particularly his fair form Annatar, the lord of gifts. Coincidentally, according to the wiki, Aaravos is called "THE BRINGER OF GIFTS".
Why didn't the ones who imprisoned him hide the prison in the moon Nexus, and why didn't the "Dragang" hide the prison in Stella's (raylas pet) pocket dimension.

You can see the disrespect he has for viren not long before viren on his quest for evil accidentally does something too set him free by then callums going too be master mage and going too battle Aaravos and baby dragon will seal him once again uniting the kingdoms with xadia and callum gets married with ráyla
My theory is that at one point Aaravos met and either fell in love with or befriended a human long before Zadia was split and humans were banished to the west. But something bad happened to the human, (hurt, sick, starved, killed etc…) and he believes they could’ve been saved easily with the elves magic but the elf and dragons policies of “no magic for humans and you’re beneath us” sealed her fate. And that broke him. So he went against his people and taught humans dark magic, we see in that flashback, that ancient human dark mage says he was gifted/taught his staff/dark magic by someone powerful and that the humans were using it to improve their lives, but I bet that wasn’t enough, aaravos wants all the dragons and elves to suffer for taking the one earthly thing he loved, so he manipulated humans and elves and spread more lies and chaos…it would also explain why he seems to have a soft spot for humans but disdain towards his own people.
