In their full interview, Novara mention that Galloway voted for gay marriage, a Conservative policy, about 10 years after same sex civil partnerships had already established the same rights. I would have liked to have seen that discussed and unpacked and also his Stonewall award for promoting equality for gays and consistently voting for it.

Heteronormativity is seen as a bad thing in queer circles. Assuming straight people to be the norm is something that is pointed out in order to be criticised. And queer is a reclaimed slur it is not us calling ourselves abnormal

He is homophobic, firstly because he claimed that gay relationships are not normal or equal and, secondly, because he equated education about trans and gay people with the sexualisation of children. This evokes on one level an old homophobic trope that gay people are all about sex, furthermore, there's a whiff of another homophobic trope, that of paedophilia. So, no, he is definitely not "for equality for all people of all genders". He said it himself.

The deepest complaint about politicians is dishonesty. He used to say to he was against the bombing of “any Arab country” and then changed his position and said he supported the Russia bombing of Syria and RAF bombing of Iraq in 2015. The snowflakery of some Galloway supporters is really funny. I quite like the guy, but that interview was not a takedown. It was journalism. It reaffirmed to me that I agree with him on a lot of foreign policy issues and that I disagree with his position on a lot of LGBT issues, for the most part. I am now better informed. What’s wrong with that? I still prefer him to Starmer.

They did the same when he won the election up north, I said in the comments back then to just get him on the show and clear things up. Credit to them for doing it. Unfortunately this looks like the future of novara and topics that will dominate now that they have become mainstream.

Politics is politics, you don't just run on a foreign policy platform, social policy matters. British gay people have suffered tremendously throughout history, many have died, this is not a small matter. It is a red line.

Novara discuss that as well, and Galloway has fought the Gaza genocide as much as anyone. The subjects are not mutually exclusive.

Before the law reform there was a slow genocide of gay men by suicide and marginalisation (plus ca change). Can you hold two thoughts in your head at once? Wait for the full interview, maybe?
