There's two ways to look at this, Donald got a lot of penetration, so I'd say he won, but he also didn't make a lot of plays, so u could also say Thomas won.
Donald’s burst off the line is comically insane. Like how is a d tackle moving that fast while also being that strong. One of the quickest off the line bursts I’ve ever seen
fun fact the brown offesive line of 2014-15 had mitchell shwart 4x all pro, joel bitonio 4 x all pro, alex mack 3x all pro and 8x all pro joe thomas just loaded plus john greco solid offensive linemen
This really ain’t a matchup joe Thomas tryin cut off Aaron Donald at 3 technique ain’t gonna happen nobody can do that he already got the advantage u gotta see joe Thomas vs an edge rusher
1:32 this is the reason I think some people undervalue just how good are and Donald is. He didn't record the tackle for loss on that play So on paper he won't show up on the stat sheet, but he absolutely wrecked that play
@@b.c.5053 even if the defense is stellar they still had a 30th ranked offense. The only offensive player on the Rams that was even worth mentioning over the last 20 after the Greatest Show on Turf was the RB Steven Jackson

A lot of tackles like Thomas and Smith from the cowboys are old school bullrush blockers. They can’t keep up with this new wave of pass rushers who are extremely quick on their feet.
what year was this game, bcuz the aaron donald today compared to the aaron donald in this game, is 2 different players bcuz on at least 5 snaps in this game, he completely takes himself out of the play or doesn't disengage even with the ball carrier within arms length....kinda reminds me of wr's taking players off but his grade from this entire 3 plus minute clip would be a c at best
Aaron Donald is what you want in a DT.. He's not the tallest being that he's 6'1, so he gets under your pads easily.. It's his speed off the ball and strength at that size that gets me.. Bro is a legit ball of strength and energy.. plus, he plays with intent.. He knows exactly what he's doing and when he's going to do it..
When JT and AD went heads up in pass protection I feel like JT held up pretty good. But AD was too explosive on some of those cutoff blocks in the run game that Joe Thomas was supposed to make I’d say this a tie
My fist thought seeing that play. Maybe because Aaron Donald wasn't "Aaron Donald" just yet. Joe was the "I'll say arguably for the sake of argument "best Left tackle in football of course.
Every lineman was blocking down to the play side, so he did get him where he was supposed to it’s just aron got through so fast he was so up close on the running’ back .
Biased opinion, a top tier d-linemen is winning most matchups unless held, doubled, or the play goes around or away. O-linemen get a lot of credit for being great blockers at times when they are really great holders.
at the 2:00 mark, #75 for the browns eats up donald at the point of attack w/out thomas....thomas comes in and cleans up but donald is on skates for almost half a yard in the wrong direction...that never happened to joe greene, in the 200 plus snaps 1 on 1 vs any other lineman in the film that i have seen..
at the 1:49 mark what was joe thomas doing, based on the play call and where the ball was supposed to go, he just had too much respect for donald, bcuz at the snap donald took himself out of the play and his immediate assignment when donald took that angle should have been to get to that next level and block #56....and at the 2:28 mark did he just have his head in his arse bcuz what kind of effort was that, the guard pulls so his main assignment then becomes inside leverage and he has to know that based on the allignment there is no way the center is going to be able to get in position to block donald and he makes a quick turn to his left with his head(which i don't understand bcuz with the flow of the play unless that is lawrence taylor on crack there is no way he is going to catch the back from behind) but makes no effort to slide over to at least get a piece of donald, as much as donald made that play it was just extremely poor execution on thomas that caused that play....if i was crowell i would be tearing joe a new one in the huddle, saying you gonna come play in this one or not bcuz what did you do on that play besides get down in your stance....and the center mack#55 should have paid the browns for his performance in this one
