Aaron Marshall of Intervals tells us why he decided to return to his roots in instrumental music for latest cut 'The Shape of Colour,' which he composed amidst the changes happening around him. He also discusses the track "I'm Awake" and that he'll continue to work with bandmates Plini and Nathan Bulla (Auras) touring for the rest of the summer. May 02, 2016.

I knew Intervals by Ephipany, Matahari, Meridian, and Libra, and now the rest of the songs is grow on me. 'The Shape of Colour' is what I need.

There is like a 0% chance Aaron will read this but anyway i really think this instrumental album to be musically richer and deeper than other Intervals material (not implying any poor quality of this huge band). It gives away some distorsion to be replaced by more mature and constructed melodies while not loosing any dynamic. They use more major scales and modes, thus transmitting more positive emotions than you would find on average in other metal stuff.To me its a very special hot cocktail of optimism even though the metaphor doesn't mean much. I would be cool with it should they decide to go that way for the next albums.

The shape of colour was awesome and Im glad it came to be. As far as it being his future sound, I'm kind of wary of that. His latest release was too squeaky clean and polished and like a less interesting continuation of TSOC. You would think by this interview that back when he "tuned down", he wrote this super depressing stuff and it was uplifting too. Uplifting music is in his blood. In time, a voice within and the shape of colour are the 3 album combo that makes intervals stand out. I hope he realizes that the way forward showed that this shouldnt be his permanent sound and it would be rad if his next project was a grand combination of all 3 of these albums. After the genious that was in time, i was as skeptical as anyone else on how a vocalist would work but man it WORKED on that album. Id love to hear vibes of alchemy, moment marauder and fable all on one album! THEN self title it!

Can't say we agree with the latter. Aaron was nothing less than incredibly gracious and well-spoken. Perhaps you're confusing expertise with snobbiness? Either way, thanks for watching and we definitely agree that he's fantastic at guitar!

Idk, based off of this interview and his music.....He seems like a really cool guy who knows his shit. He seems super confident in his music too (which he should be).....Maybe you're confusing confidence with being a snob? When you throw your soul into your music, you should be proud of it....And that's all I see from this interview, a confident musician who is proud of his work. Nothing wrong with that. Nothing but happy feels for the guy, he seems like he is in a good place with his musical career. \m/
