Skip Bayless is the master of the red-herring. To be honest, every time Tom Brady has been missing either due to an injury or suspension, the Patriots haven't played that bad. When Rodgers has gone down, the Packers were basically treading water until he got back. In 2013 in the 8 full games Rodgers played the Packers had a 6-2 record. In the other 8 games he did not play (or in the case of Chicago play a full game because of the injury) they were 2-5-1. In 2008 without Brady the Patriots went 11-5. In 2016 without Tom Brady the team went 3-1. This is not even a question that Aaron Rodgers is more valuable to the Packers than Tom Brady is to the Patriots. It doesn't make any difference about how well or terrible the GM has been on either team to supply with talent. The great players win regardless on who is out there. That's what Rodgers does. That's what Brady does. This is just network sensationalism to keep you watching. They already know what topics to choose and what stances to take in order to make a more entertaining show.

yes, but they had a run game against Dallas and their D is better that the Pats. O-line are very similar, but you got the better receiver core.SO green Bay roster>Pats roster this year

sportfreak12 true, I can agree to that, however I don't put as much into the Patriots success on Brady as I do with Green Bay and Rodgers. I mean, you also have to take into account the coaching staff too... Belichick is definitely a better coach than McCarthy and I'm sure he'd find it easier to win games w/o Brady than McCarthy will w/o Rodgers.

i can agree that Bill is better than Mccarthy,but the one is Defensive minded the other One is Offensive minded. The backups Brady got are much better than Rodgers back ups. There are seasons when the Only player we got was Brady 2013/2011/2017. When Brady got injured the Team was 16-0,last year the Team was 14-2 and won the SB, the Teams were simply very good when he got injured or suspended.Brady is the Mvp for me, because he is the Player that wins you the championship , Rodgers has to prove it, until then he is not that Player.

Almon Joseph actually they scampered to a 7-7-1 record and Rodgers came back the last week of the year and won the game to send them to the playoffs. If it wasn't for our cruddy division we shouldn't have been in the playoffs at 8-7-1

Well 11-5 Cassel team was almost the same that Brady had and went undefeated previous year 16-0..5 win difference in NFL is like being 8-8 and being 13-3!!! and Cassel was pretty good QB back in the days, even went to probowl and playoffs with Chiefs next year i think. yea they went 3-1 against bellow average Cardinals finishing under 0.500 that year and it took miracle field goal miss to win that game..they beat the Dolphins, and Osweiller texans (lol), and lost 16-0 to Bills i am not impressed. The argument here is (like Skip said) who is the backup..that like saying if i don't know Drew Brees was backup for Rodgers and i am the backup for Brady who will be more important for their team!?

Why does everyone approach this as who is the better QB? That has nothing to do with it, the question in which team would handle loosing their starting QB better. Green Bay or The Patriots. And right now it's GB. The pats have Jimmy G, and still have a decent team around him. They are prepared if Brady goes down. Just as you would expect, especially with a team that has a star QB of that age. GB hasn't gotten to the stage of drafting to replace Rodgers yet, and as a result they will struggle to replace him. Sure the receiver core of GB is better then for the Pats right now, but GB has no OL any more, they are all injured. Both teams have bad defenses right now. Although I will trust in Bill to be best equipped to fix his D. And as such the only logical conclusion is that the team with the best backup QB is best prepared to handle the loss of their star QB. Therefor Rodgers is the most important to his franchise. If you think he is the better QB or not is irrelevant.

You're not a Pats fan dude. I'm a Cowboys fan, I'd take the QB that wins me the more titles any day of the week. It's like people say "Messi > Cristiano", but Cristiano won player of the year 4 in a row if you count this year and never disappoints against the best teams. In fact, he's at his best against the BEST teams. I'd take that player any day of the week.

Packers have always had a decent defense. Same with patriots however, Tom Brady is what makes their offense good. Most of their receivers, excluding the ones they just picked up are late round/undrafted. Packers have 1st/2nd round receivers.

Its one thing if you have this convo just for fun debate. If you're really trying to get an answer... Then its an exercise in futility unless you believe both teams are comparable (to each other) at back up QB. If you have incompetence at the backup QB position, doesn't matter who ur coach, OLB, best probowler, star WR, HoF right guard... nothing matters if ur backup cant read a defense, cant pick up the blitz, deliver on time, throw a spiral, etc etc

Since Matt Cassel every single backup Qb for Tom Brady outside of Ryan Mallett has gone on to have at least one very successful season for a team outside of New England why because the Tom Brady knows how to groom young Qb's and the Patriots understand you have to draft talented backups, meanwhile Matt Flynn who statistically speaking has played the best single game in Packers history has gone too two different teams in a different system than Aaron Rodgers and looked like a complete bum.

Can't blame brady if his team actually develops and invests in a back up qb. Cassel was serviceable that year and Jimmy G is not too shabby either. If GB actually had a decent qb maybe they had a chance of going .500 while arod recovers.

It's obviously premature to say he will be better than Jeter but you're also prematurely dismissing the possibility. Judge just hit 50 homeruns in his rookie year and could possibly win the MVP award. Derek Jeter in his 20 year career never once won an MVP award. He obviously didn't have the power to hit 50 homeruns. He also had 125 runs scored and 115 rbis. Keep in mind this is his rookie year. They also have the possibility of winning the World Series. If this kid hits 50 homeruns, wins the MVP, and the World Series in his FIRST year won't you then acknowledge the possibility? Those are 3 feats most people never achieve over the course of a career. Jeter never did 2/3 of them in 20 years. Granted that's a lot of ifs but those are very real possibilities.

It all depend on what your standards are. If your goal is to watch flashy highlights in the regular season and either barely make the playoffs or miss the playoffs, then it's Rodgers. If you want to contend for superbowls every year, then it's Brady and it's NOT even close.

This oughta put y'all critics to rest I'm a Patriots fan but also a fan of the sport of the NFL and its awesome players like Rodgers. But let me tell y'all this both QBs play with a different skill set. Rodgers can throw, shuffle around and scramble away. Brady can throw and squirm when he occasionally runs out of the pocket. So the argument doesn't make sense when both have different skill sets that maybe one or the other can't do as effectively. I can admit that when Rodgers starts running around in or outside the pocket I'm looking down the field to see where his target is because he is the best deep thrower on the run or off his back feet that I've ever seen. Brady has such a calmness about himself however that just rubs off people and his attitude speaks volumes it lifts the players to play harder. Either way watching both these guys play is awesome and if both were out for the season with injuries I can admit that the game wouldn't be as exciting without those 2 playing besides the other cool QBs in the league.

As a Patriots fan, I openly admit that Rodgers is more talented (skill wise), and more valuable to their franchise. However, I think Brady is the GOAT and has the better carrier, regardless of system or not.

I really wish I could argue with Greg Jennings. He keeps bringing up that the Pats went 10-5 without Brady. The year before Brady went 16-0. Matt won 6 less games than Brady with the same team. Also, That season was the only time in the last 15 years that the Patriots didn't make the playoffs. DON'T pull statistics if your not gonna tell the whole story.

Yeah, but have you seen the Packers without Aaron Rodgers, they lost more than the Patriots lost without Tom Brady; Packers went 5-6-1 I believe, they lost more games than they won. Patriots were 10-5 (or 11-5, that's what I heard them say) and 3-1 when Brady wasn't playing. Sure, from what you said, they didn't make the playoffs but compare 5-6-1 to 10-5 and 3-1. It probably would affect them on the long run though. But this debate is about which QB is MORE crucial to the team and based on the records at that time, Aaron Rodgers seemed to be more valuable to his team because, without him, they are not good. And what Shannon said, patriots had a good back up QB, who did the Packers have? I mean, they are BOTH crucial and valuable to their team, and we might actually find out because of the rumors that Brady might not be with the Patriots next season, and the Patriots no longer have Jimmy G.

Rodgers and the Packers won the Superbowl as a Wildcard team. They sneak up on teams when nobody expected them to win. Ever since he won a Superbowl and everybody gave Rodgers the "elite" title, he never won or went to another Superbowl. Rodgers never won as a "favorite" and when given expectations to win it all

since rodgers first super bowl which was 9th rankes defense in the league hes had absolutely poorous defense. i mean its hard to get back to a super bowl if your defense gives up 35 or more points consistently in the playoffs... brady doesnt have to try and come back down 45-21 does he? new england has given up 30 or more points in the playoffs IN BRADYS CAREER 3 times while the packers in 15 playoff gamea for rodgers have given up 30 or more 6 times, bradys played in like what 30 playoffs games? jeez

You miss the point. They lost to the same Giants team, so your argument is stupid. Plus, that was on Mike McCarthy for resting their starters for almost a month and expecting them to play without rust. Also, defensive stats are misleading. We all know how horrible Dallas defense is, but they were ranked a respectable 14th last year because their offense dominated time of possesion. And the NFC Championship game vs Seattle had more to do with how bad Green Bay's defense was than how Rodgers played. Seattle's defense was legendary, one of the all time bests, and Green Bay allowed Seattle to march down multiple times in the 4th quarter. Also, Rodgers didn't even get the ball in overtime because Seattle scored a TD on that horrible Packers defense. And NE only beat Seattle and Atlanta because of horrible play calling by Pete Carroll and Kyle Shanahan.

Thank you for stating this Jones lol. People don't get the difference in losing 5 more games then you did from the previous season. Look at every team who made the playoffs last year, and add 5 losses to their record. There's literally one team that would have made the playoffs with 5 more losses; New England (14-2 5 more losses 9-7 = tie with Miami and they'd be playing on wild card Sunday).

Also in 2008 the patriots still had one of the best rosters EVER. Literally lost a few players from the 2007 patriots which we all know. Out of the few players they lot going into 2008 only one was a semi important part of the previous season.

Stop acting like Brady won the Super Bowl all on his own. The defense stepped up BIG to end the third and through the entire 4th quarter. They give up as much as a field goal the Patriots lose that game. Again, Super Bowls are a team effort. This isn't basketball. There's two sides of the ball being played by two separate units.

Belichick wasn't a coach with GM powers before Brady. Last time he tried to replace a franchise QB it didn't work out for him. Lucky for Brady this time he had the authority to replace players at will without getting fired. Thank Robert Kraft for wanting his head coach to have all the freedom he needs to improve the team.

This argument is not really about how skilled either QB is it's more about coaching. Rodgers is obviously more important but only because Greenbay has no one to replace him and do a serviceable job. Belichick has made sure that if Brady goes down the Patriots won't loss game because the replacement QB is substandard.
