In this update on the 1946 internal we do some much needed bodywork on the caved in panels. It gets new wiring. Lights. And a new 12v charging system. This restoration has been tough but to get it on the road again this revival must go on. Will it run? Will it drive? See the last episodes to see how we did it.

The old school guys lived before OSHA, and all of the safety sissy ninny nanny greenie weenie commie mommies. The rule in those days was "be careful and pay attention to what you're doing." It was about common sense, which was just another prerequisite to being a man. Today it's "The Central Planning Committee is going to protect you from yourself, if we have to take every cent you've got and put you in jail to do it" Safetyism is a fanatical religion that is on par with the Taliban.

Back in the '40's, trucks were not required to have two taillights. Only the 'Deluxe' version had two. It wasn't until 1961 that the Feds mandated two taillights standard on trucks.

Boy am I glad I ran across your channel, loving the content so far! Your philosophy of only replacing parts if necessary is absolutely awesome and is something that seems to be missing from a lot of automotive based channels these days. Kudos on getting that old girl on the road after so long, the fact that the engine wasn't locked up is mind boggling. The grille being straightened reminded me very much of the scene in Christine where she "fixes" herself lol.

I had a 1947 International basically identical to this one, way back in 1976. I drove it from Pullman, Washington (home of WSU) where I went to school back home to Bremerton, Washington in June of 1976. Ran flawlessly the whole trip. I used a quart of oil and held a steady 45 to 50 on the trip. I sold it about 6 months later. I sure wish I had it back now.

My most recent is a 65 Dart with a roached motor that was parked in a field circa 1994. I sourced a 225 in marginally better condition than the existing 170 but simply have no time. Someday.

You seriously need to install a fine mesh screen in the return line for the radiator... it'll capture all of the crap coming out of the block and keep it from getting into your brand new radiator. Yes, you'll have to check it frequently until the block stops giving up particulates of dirt but it'll be worth it. You can also install a translucent section of hard plastic tubing where the screen is or incorporate the screen into it so that you can just visually check the screen without having to pull the hose. There are various places you can purchase screen, the most common materials to use are brass or stainless because they don't rust. In the past, I've seen some guys just use clear vinyl tubing that they bought by the foot from Home Depot and installed a screen into that. No, they didn't leave it permanently installed - it was temporary and left in for around 50-100 miles at which point in time the block had flushed out about as much crap as it was going to get flushed out of it. If you really want to get your block cleaned out and disassembly with hot tanking is not an option, you can fill it with things like Evapo-rust, a weak acid solution (NOT recommended by me!) or things like vinegar. Obviously using Evapo-rust would be the most expensive way to go because it costs a certain amount of 💵 per gallon. Vinegar in comparison is fairly cheap but it's much less effective and takes a lot longer to work. If I were in your shoes, I would make sure my water pump was up to snuff and then just use the screen method. Unless you disassemble and hot tank the block, the truth is you're never going to get it completely cleaned out. In the meantime, once satisfied that my block had given up the gunk it was going to spit out over the course of 50-100 miles, I would install distilled water and a high quality antifreeze with corrosion protection and just run with it. One last important thing to do would be to install a quality temperature gauge & thermocouple so that you can keep an eye on the actual coolant temp under normal operating conditions. It isn't uncommon to find that a very old engine just simply runs hot or overheats because it has too much crap in it. It won't run cooler until a lot of that crap is cleaned out one way or the other. Best wishes! 🥵👎🏻🥶👍🏻 - Max Giganteum

Like what you've done so far to get this old truck back to running and on the road. One thing I would suggest is to fabricate (if none are available) new mounting brackets and put the taillights back where they were. It just doesn't look right with them mounted so high up plus they are vulnerable to being hit by whatever might be in the bed of the truck.

I predict she's gonna end up Somewhere in between Farmer Brown's old beater And a pampered trailer queen *** You guys are doing a fantastic job on this one. A lot of people would have crushed it without a second thought. It makes my heart skip a beat and do a back flip when people who care go to work on something like this. Now that she's got some of her shape back, you can see that she's got some lines. You have to be able to look at something like this with the right kind of eyes to see it for what it truly is, a thing of great beauty, and a piece of history. My hat is off to you. Your efforts are extraordinary. If a guy was looking to develop old school bodywork techniques, he couldn't find a better specimen than this to practice on. Hammer and dolly work, heating and shrinking, stretching, and maybe some lead work could all be learned here. I'd guess that the days of using her for a beater are probably past. If she was mine, I'd say her really hard working days are over. She's earned the right to some light duty and and easier life than she's had in the past. What a fine piece of iron. Definitely first rate job, gentlemen. CHEERS!!!

@@theetravisb absolutely!!! This whole exercise would be pointless if you didn't. The Fender company has a series of guitars that they call "relics" that are pre-distressed and banged up, and they charge extra for it! Somebody forgot to check the sugar cubes under the black light before they dropped them in the coffee. But people buy these things, and then pamper them like they were a Honus Wagner baseball card. "Don't touch my guitar, dude, you might put a scratch in my pre scratched paint job." Some people should wear a hat when they're out in the sun. Obviously all of the wear on this fine beast is real and genuine, and the cool factor is off the charts.
