I recently rescued this 1966 Ford Bronco as I've always liked the look of the early Broncos and could never find one in my price range. Well I found one! And she needs some work! Let's see if we can get it back on the road!

The role of any good shop dog. Mine is an 8 year old chocolate lab, that is also my service dog. Trained him.back in 2014, in case I needed another amputation, and had a trans femoral on July. Diesel will fetch parts, tools (takes a.few.tries.to get the right one, but he tries) drinks from the fridge, holds the door, and if I need.help.up, stands and adds a bracing point to get back in the chair, or on my prosthetic. Training him.to get my liner socks now, from a.shelf in my office, or.my bag, and he's picking up on it quick. Still have the wierd.friends stopping by, and customers, as well as my wife, but the dog is almost the perfect shop companion. At least until the wife brings her 11 year old black lab with her. The other half of.our bonded pair of rescues.

Best way to flush blocks from my experience has been plain water until it flows clear, then add a gallon of Evap-o-rust to the coolant system topped off by distilled water. I run the engine to heat cycle it a few times over the coarse of a day then drain and refill with coolant. Nice find!

We did this with my Jeep and my two Oldsmobile. When we got around to tearing them down, the coolant passages looked great! We still completely tore them down, and went the whole 9 yards. But it gave us insight to cleaning and treating our Daily drivers.

@@MortskeRepair Anything acidic; The lower the PH, the more it needs dilution. I've always done it by guess and by gosh. but you can always use temporary plugs and do a relatively high acid content so you don't wreck your new plugs. Those plugs were designed into early engines for a "shaker" to pick up the block and shake the sand out of them. Of course their value as a "freeze" plug was easily recognized.

Best thing to clean up an old engine is dollar store oven cleaner. Drench it and let it sit for a while. Then power wash it off. Cheap and works wonders. As for the white stuff in the radiator/thermostat, thats old antifreeze mixed with too much water. When it doesn't move for a long time, It pools and that causes it to crystalize and leave that residue in the perfect places to clog it!
@hellcattanks
@hellcattanks 2 года назад
The coil has 2 windings, therefore 4 wires, 2 of these are connected together at the points side LT terminal, if you got them reversed it might still run however the sparkolator HT current would return through the + ignition side instead of through the condensor, probably resulting in a shorter/weaker spark, and if you listen to the radio probably a load of intereference. You want the HT current to go through the condensor as it forms a resonant circuit making a brighter/longer spark.

Fantastic channel man! I'm here from Puddin cross over. Next time you're welding nuts on broken studs. Weld a weiner on the stud without a nut first. Next put a flat washer on weld it to the weiner. Then weld the nut to the washer. Most importantly wait for them to cool until you can touch it bare handed. Weld is soft when it's hot. 40 year old heavy equipment field service technician. I've extracted 100s of bolts from 1/4 to 1and1/4 with this method and got every one . It's in a caterpillar service manual somewhere. If you have several to do like you did, make an assembly line just go to the next broken one, next step and so on. Another trick is if it's broken off deep in a hold like on metal tracks. Cut a piece of an aluminum can and put it in the hole like a roll pin. The aluminum will keep you from welding to the surrounding metal and pull just the broken bolt. Subscribed, look forward to more videos

we just revived my grandpas 66 bronco yesterday’. been sitting since 1999. he wanted to buy high dollar 10-30 for it. told him we only run the best around here so we put diesel oil in it. he also wanted to pull the carb off and rebuild it. whacked her with the ole hammy 1-2-3 times and she came right around. ole floatskies started working and everything. all we did was drain the tank, a new fuel hose, changed the oil, and she fired right up. i loved all the stories he told me of how he went further in the woods in 2 high than the new jeeps in 4 low. it’s funny since it has vacuum wipers they make a 1/2 turn when you first start it. definitely very cool old units! great find.

‘78 would have come from the factory with a Duraspark electronic ignition setup, which I think came out in ‘74? So yeah, no points, and no points gap to specify. Guess whoever swapped that engine in reused the original engine distributor instead of adapting the Duraspark (not like adapting it is that hard, but then again, if they got the basic coil wiring backward, that was probably for the best)

I know it's been months but Irwin makes LH drill bits for hardened steel, soak the hell out of it with penetrating oil and drill in steps till you get a decent size extractor in it. That's what we did at the shop when welding nuts failed!.also the hole releases surface tension at the threads

I've not seen many Broncos that have not been hacked, this one is more botched, well before you got it as you were fixing/breaking things properly! Great one!!

I have had really good luck with both phosphoric acid and osphalic acid on cast iron blocks. Plug off all the holes, pull the thermostat and fill er up. Let it sit for a week, then flush. Rinse and repeat if required. Most rad flush products are nothing but dilute phosphoric acid. Spendy way to buy it. Go to Lowes or a paint shop and buy it in 5 gallon pails for cheap. It’s reusable too. Works on old radiators as well. It removes iron oxide, calcium and even oily residue and converts the surface iron to iron phosphate, which is corrosion resistant moving forward. Most recently I did my ‘49 Ford flathead (sat since 1979), and it worked like a charm. I used it in the nasty old fuel tank as well after I steamed out the 3” of tar and varnish. Bright and clean.

Mortske, You sure earned your keep with the Bronco. Always been a fan of the early ones. Owned a clapped out 69 that I dropped a 302 in. It was auto with power steering. Uncut fenders, main reason I bought it. Unfortunately the tub and rear frame were way more work than I could handle. I have to tell ya, when the bronco bucked the tripod and sent us into standby, I damn near fell outa bed laughing! You da man!
