This video brought a huge smile to my face. It reminded me of me and my late father. I purchased a 86 Monte Carlo SS that had been sitting for years. We went and tinkered with it and drove it home. We were shocked at how well it ran after sitting so long. I drove it about half way home while dad followed in another car. I pulled over and he thought something was wrong. I said nope, it's your turn to drive it. His eyes lit and and a huge smile was on his face. When he pulled out onto the road he was sideways and smoke was boiling from the tires. It was no stock 305, it was a built 350 and it was strong. Memories like that last forever. Thanks for the great video. And a 78 with t tops is one of my all time dream cars.

This video gave me the feels, I used to work on the cars as a kid with my father, now I don't have many good memories of my father, he was an alcoholic and he was into all sorts of drugs, but I do have some good memories of working on the old trans am with him, it was an 81' as well. Watching you talk with the customer and remember the memories you and he both had to the vehicles that was something else, I could really connect to it. How I miss the ol days being 10 and fiddling around in some carbs and the being outside all day. Sure aint that way anymore.

It tickles my feels too. My old man was a drunk military disciplinarian and he built blue printed rods as his main hobby. He never taught me a damn thing about it as he didn't want me being seen or heard. 78 trans was my first car...i bought it myself with my own money but i couldn't do it justice and it ended up in the garage for so long that my mother insisted i sell it. I still don't drink, beat my kid or wrench on cars.

@@svr27rr87 Much appreciated. I self taught to be a carpenter/contractor though. 27 years self employed now. Historic restorations is my specialty but really I just end up doing it all...property line to rooftop is my motto. That trans was the only car I ever owned as I became a truck owner at an early age. My mechanic is pretty much the only person I ever pay to do anything for me. He can fix with a wrench what i can't beat with a hammer. Not to say I can't wrench but I can't wrench at the same confidence level that I can do other things. I am wrenching on my backhoe right now mostly because I can't just drive it to my usual mechanic. I do have a low milage/strong f250 that needs a new bed...once the backhoe is running I think I'll drop an oak on the mill and make myself one.

These idiots were using smart phones for flashlights, when they could have Googled the damn firing order, & the cylinder location. (they probably didn't know that either !) My mom could have done a FAR better job ! I heard them mention the car needed a "new carb". They don't even know how to rebuild Carbs ? I'm absolutely shocked they knew how to put air in the tires !

When my son was sick (leukemia) his mom rode with him in the plane and my daughter just twenty two then, went with me in my trans am, to Harbor view and we made it right along with the support of the mounties, well a short time. Yes we did drive the wheels off her, it never gave us any hiccups. I wish to thank them again for turning blind eye to us as we went down the west side of the Fraser river canyon and on to Seattle. I had mine running every day and it held the road like it was glued. After all said and done had to get rid of it for medication and the other guy wrecked it. My daughter said; to bad you don't know how to drive as dad an I held it to the floor when we could and it seen the peg lots and never offered to give a inch. I looked at the guy and said; she's right as she hit the peg before I did on the trip and then after that it seemed like crawling if it wasn't at least a hundred +. Cops will verify cause they did tell us on the straight aways give her what she has and as long as you use common sense, we won't bother you and good luck. Couldn't figure if you were ever going to give it a little gas till dad run the throttle up. Had to blow cobwebs out of pipes. Any time you leave Anchorage to Seattle in less than forty hours and right side up, you are putting miles behind you.

Just started watching your channel. Love the content guys. Little tip on spark plug wires that are stuck, use hose pliers to get off. You can get the ends just past the boot and pull the wire off. Hope that helps 👌

I'm so glad other people are able to fill the gap left by a RU-vid show I won't mention created by a popular magazine service that left RU-vid to go to subscription services. It's awesome to watch a video that goes from stuck in the dirt to driving again in a single clip. So many others out there have "clip 1, watch me change the oil. clip 2, I'm changing a battery. clip 3, I'm driving it and forgot to upload the other clips. clip 4, i'm driving to the locksmith to have a key made". I mean, let's see the stuff people actually want to see!! Great video, looking forward to the rest! You've definitely earned another subscriber. Now to go watch the Opal video :)

@@FreddyFunderbunz The add revenue generated by Motor Trend (or any channel with millions of subscribers) would've been more than enough to pay for the creation of content and turn a profit. Channels like Hoovies Garage show this as he occasionally reveals the add revenue from certain videos and it's often six figures. That's more than enough to cover a large production team (who are already on a salary from motor trend) and also turn a profit. The truth is Motor Trend got gready. They figured there were enough people like yourself who didn't understand how RU-vid add revenue works to sell a subscription. They were right, but they lost the RU-vid community. RU-vid doesn't take a cut of their subscription revenue, but they also don't get the same exposure they did when their content was free to view (but generating lots of add revenue) on RU-vid. They're making more money, but reaching less people. Great formula for profit, not a good formula for growth and introducing the next generation to the brand. They also managed to annoy a lot of people who had supported their growth by watching adds which made them money. I used to run an online marketing company. The Motortrend model is used as a "what not to do" in brand and content monetisation. Their hard core subscribers like yourself can defend them to the hilt, but after you guys stop paying your subscriptions nobody else will have even heard of them, they'll have experienced very little growth, and will have been replaced in the minds of the next generation by brands like Hoonigan who use the merchandise model to churn out tons and tons of content with just as high, sometimes higher production value as MT, all free to view. Motor trend is just run by old guys who didn't understand the value of free to view content. Fortunately for them in the short term there are enough people who don't understand youtubes add revenue who buy the whole "these videos don't make money" lie they MT pedalled. Enjoy your subscription. I enjoy watching all the roadkill episodes for free after people rip them and make them available for free download. The old guys at Motortrend up in thay big office building still making those paper magazines never really considered that would even be an issue I guess. Welcome to 2019.

I got to about 5 minutes and wanted to cry. Reminded me of my poor ole' 79 10th anniversary limited edition bandit style TA thats been sitting outside in storage for about 18 years now :'( Rebuilt that 403 Olds K-block with my brother back in '91. That damn crank comin back from being mic'd and polished with a scatch in one of the journals. Which spun on me 8 years later. Remember takin my dad out for a 1/4 mile run to get his opinion, first time ever in my life I ever heard him say, "Yeah she's got some big balls." I miss drivin that damn thing so much. Not to mention workin on it when I had the time. Now I got all the time, but a bad back from the war... so there it sits all broken hearted, wants to run low 12's but cant even get it started. lol Thanks for the great upload. Nothing like a little walk down memory lane and seein the crack that twisted your ankle. ;-) God all the great memories I have from that one car... a bunch more than from my ex-wife that for sure!

You may remember riding around in them when they were new, but I remember driving my cousin's brand new '79 many times as well as riding with him, and they were not very impressive. The horsepower was way down from 1970 when they hit their high limits and the build quality was very spotty. The car rattled like crazy from the get go and electronic engine controls were very dicey as far as reliability.
