This house really truly was a time capsule. Very authentic, early American, country interior. The entire top floor particularly was a time capsule of early American country. Definitely a collection that you rarely see together in its original settings, especially the upstairs. All the furniture was authentic, the wide floorboards, the chests, the wallpapers, the wide frames around the windows; even that reclining chair upstairs was very rare to see. The white linens on the bed probably handmade, and the sewn together pieces of fabric you found in the chest would have been the top layer of a patchwork quilt, clearly not finished. A shame this house was not saved. I’m glad you got to see it though. if you were ever wondering what it would look like to walk into a western and be invited to an old cowboy’s house, this would be what it looked like. If you were wondering why there were multiple doors in the bedrooms upstairs, they used to make them so you could get a breeze through the entire top floor of the house, and the upstairs wouldn’t get so hot. They used to do this in more southern houses in the US. They are breezeways for airflow. I hope you’re enjoying your trip here in the US, love to see all the old houses in this country. ❤

That was a quilt in the trunk. Back in the old days, women in the community would form a quilting bee. They would get together and bring their scrap cloth materials, they would cut them into various shapes, sew them together to make a beautiful, colorful quilt for the beds. Wonderful video as always. I know in a lot of States the water is left on for safety reasons. But I didn't know they left the electricity on too. I guess it was not consuming much as nobody was living in so they didn't bother about it. A very neat find. Once again you are so sensitive with the items in the house giving great respect to the people that have passed.

I work for large electric utility I can tell you with 100% confidence no way power would be left on in a house that is abandoned. When the payment stops being received, we send a employee to the home to verify someone is there, or they might be dead. We found several people who have died in their home wasn't until one of our meter guys went to the home and get no answer, they call the police who enter the home find owner had died. Been a few where our guys could smell the body from the door. They had autopay where social security was direct deposit, and account was auto paying.

The Eagle thing upstairs is a fish finder. There is a piece that reads the depth of the water as well as shows various features in the water and on sides and bottom.

Hi Lesley and Danny. In America, never assume that a place is completely abandoned no matter what it looks like. The odds are, someone is keeping an eye on it ever now and then, especially if the electricity is still on. Someone IS paying the bill for it each month, or it would be turned off. There is a small charge even if the electricity isn't being used. If the bill goes up, the owner will probably notice and check things out. As for rocking chairs, they are great for getting babies to sleep, for reading a good book, and for just helping yourself take a short rest before getting back to work🙂. The reclining chair probably had a matching foot stool at one time. What you called a barn was probably a garage (for cars and storage) since it was connected to the house. A barn would have been far enough away from the house that smells were not a problem - usually🙂. Just a note: when going through old, abandoned houses in the US during the warmer months, be careful about snakes, especially rattle snakes. They do get inside sometimes. They will usually move away from vibrations (they don't have ears but feel vibrations through the ground or floor). You want to take some heavy steps now and then so you don't sneak up on them. Water Moccasins or Cotton Mouth snakes can be dangerous also, especially in the southern US. They love overgrown, weedy places. So be careful out there, be safe, and have fun.

Copperheads are common in North Carolina and are poisonous. Black racers are common as well but are not poisonous but get pretty big. Be careful walking through tall grass in warm weather! And unlike Canada, if the electricity is on, someone is paying it for sure. Lastly, Americans, especially in the country, own guns. They won’t shoot but it still is unsettling. Great video.

@ 27:04, the beautiful old rocking chair is an antique "sewing rocker" - no arms so the elbows could move freely - rocks to keep circulation moving in the legs - no one sews by hand anymore though - the sewing machine with a cabinet replaced the sewing rocker - it makes me sad to see how corporate farms destroyed the family farm - there is no way to compete with them

Hi guys, the piece of fabric with many patches is called a quilt "top", eventually the maker was hoping to make a quilt with it. Putting a batting inbetween the layers and a backing put with it all to make a warm comforter/quilt for the family.

@@kerryharris7751 they sure are! For Leslie and Danny, old quilts are family heirlooms, passed down from generations, just very meaningful. Quilting is still a popular pastime, too. You probably passed some quilt shops in your travels through the US? These shops sell some quilts but mostly sell fabric and other supplies to quilters.

I love to hear that other countries do quilting. I have a cr8b size one my Grandma made from my first grade of school clothes. Sun Bonnet Sue. I'm 82 so guess me and the quilt are antiques almost. I don't have any family left so I don't have anyone to pass it down to, that makes me feel sad.

Artificial insemination is also used for livestock. This man would have to be a physician to do AI on women. The house may have been condemned because of the chimney fire though there’s usually a notice on the house if that happens. Little trucks used to be common in the US. That thing over the bed of the truck is called a shell. It’s not a camper, it’s just for keeping the stuff in the back of the truck dry.

Artificial insemination for animals was my first thought. Some of the current day homesteaders who have You Tube channels use artificial insemination on their animals, usually done by veterinarians, but James must have been licensed to do this for himself and possibly other farmers as well.

@@nellcovington4001 my sister in law’s Father and brother have black Angus’s. They use artificial insemination for some their cattle. They flew a bull to Argentina and made some big money for using this bull to sire several cattle over there. My niece and her husband just had their female dog, insemenated it’s a rare dog, so the male they used was the same type. They are now expecting five pups, which will sell for a very good amount of money. I guess they have to give the owner of the male dog a percentage of each sold. But, him thinking the man was doing women that was funny 😅.

In the 50s and early 60s we had pink refrigerators and turquoise. Then suddenly it all went brown, then white&black then to stainless steel look, which resembles a industrial cafeteria&kitchens. I much prefer adding a little color. No one dares to be different, they all want the same thing when a trend is in! I remember these types things as a child. Another great &interesting video. Hi Bros.! I really like this farm house. The piece of furniture at the end of the bed in the first bedroom looks like a piano stool maybe. The pantry or built in cabinets in the kitchen we do have in the south (maybe just not the ones you've seen). One thing you might not find in parts of the south though is a coat closet. (We don't need them😊). There is a very wide variety of home styles in the US that is so true. Good luck with your exploring and be safe!

Wallpaper in every room is a dream come true for me personally. It took me 50 years, but I like wallpaper now. And all those older homes have wonderful bathtubs. We women do love a nice warm bath.

The blankets that are in the trunk are called quilts. They are all hand made. I'm from Ohio and our grandparents made this and their mother's ect. Oh and it was fishing strong not a rod or real. But love all the videos you share.❤

That color a stove used to be called Cooper tone. I'm so happy that they never got any where trying to sue him . I miss my grandfather I always took him everywhere with me when I was in my late teens. He spoke with a thick German accent and my friends would always say what did he say and I would translate English into English without the accent lol. The owner of the house probably got to were he couldn't walk and ended up in a nursing home. Thank you for the interesting video.

The pieces of material sewn together is called a guilt . They never wasted anything at this time and sewn odds ends ends of material to make a blanket . Also they made new ones of new material for a baby blanket or kids with stages of there life’s on it . Some of them have been passed down in families for decades . It’s really a nice way of showing how much you care for the person they are making it for . Good show though !

Great explore, it's in better condition than many houses that have been abandoned for so long. I noticed that although the house seems to have been abandoned, the book in the bathroom was a Farmer's Almanac for 2011. The Almanac is published 2 years in advance so it may have been later than 2008 when James left.

My electric bill was $277.00 in February. I'm a single person I don't even cook or do laundry....and it was only a small studio. I don't know how my bill got to that amount, there wasn't any back payments overdue in there. I was just about one month. Probably TMI here girls, but had a really hard time getting that much money together. I'm 82....yall know my diet for the month was ramen noodles. 😊😢

Researching the name and address, it appears that James was born in 1964, making him only 58 now. Another James died, but the sister was Pat, not the brother. It seems he may still be alive but not capable of taking care of the home.

Love it again! The medal NRA is National Rifleman's Association, the quilt in the chest was the top someone finished but never got the stuffing called "batting" and bottom material sewn onto. The Eagle piece of technology is a "Fish Finder" for a boat. It tells you how deep the water is and shows you where fish are. The book in the bathroom is something every USA Farmer has in their home! It predicts growing, weather and many things. Alot of Americans get it every year ( me too) to plant and grow and know when storms will occur. Be careful....in America... if the electric is on... someone is still around! It cost the family to pay for it here. Have fun..

32.55 blanket is quilt. Most often, in the olden days, sewed together with scrap of fabric. Now a days, new fabric is bought to make quilts.

The certificate is for a bovine course, Artificial Insemination for cattle breeding, also the owner must have taken quite a big loan against the property, and as most banks are unforgiving about unpaid debt, the farm must have fallen into foreclosure and he was forced out how sad...

So sad to see the house and belongings to rott😢 In the 60th and 70th we had such chairs in Germany named Lazer Chair. Maybe they where coming from the states? i crew up in bavaria where the US Army where as Allied. The pic of James remember me of a Guy i feelt in love as a teenager😊

I really enjoy your videos, as I've noted before! That car is a Volkswagen Rabbit pickup (the US VW Rabbit was based on the European-market Volkswagen Golf). I can't recall for sure, but I think the pickup truck version might have been exclusive to our part of the world, while the passenger car configurations were more widely available (as the Golf in most places and the Rabbit in North America). In the mid 1980's when I was in college in the state of Washington, my roommate had a light blue Volkswagen pickup similarly equipped with a canopy over the bed like the one in this video. I have fond memories of running around our college town in that truck!

Hi Lesley and Danny. The place looks like an old Omish house. Beautiful. Insemination is use on cow farms but its typically used for blood line in Race Horses. They use it so the Mare doesn't get her coat marred up. Horse showing purposes. We americans love rocking our babys in rocking chairs.😊 I was kinda dissapointed the you didnt go up to the 3 floor. I seen the stairs in the boys room right after you were talking about that Eagle thing on the bed. I enjoyed the tour. Thanks for sharing.
