Nicely done.

One of the biggest reasons why that area is so abandoned now is that it’s located directly next to the city’s trash incinerator, which smells and emits fumes that cause respiratory problems like asthma

That’s the Poletown neighborhood, black bottom was completely demolished when I-75 was built. Poletown existed side by side it, and many blacks moved there when the “slum” and homes were demoslished

Great explore and video! That was quite a building back in its day. It's too bad it's just sitting there decaying. I'm glad you videoed it before it's demolished which I'm sure will happen at some point.

@2:56 I think that was a purse snatch. They hit the lady and ran to this location for cover, so they wouldn't be seen rummaging. Then they went through the purse, took out the valuables and dumped the rest.

I doubt that's a homeless squat, tho. There are many, many other buildings in the city that are far better protected than this structure. Some of them even have running water. Homeless people don't usually sleep outside when they have the option of sleeping in a warm(ish) squat. Not unless they're drunk or high out of their minds.

There's just to much decay and squalor. I don't think that Detroit will ever recover.

E Carlos Nope. You're most certainly right. Just giving my take on what I've seen and heard over the years.

As stated before, you're confusing Black Bottom with Poletown.

Can't Black Americans do something to restore these black, abandoned areas. It makes me so sad.

As I live in UK I don't know anything about this place, but it looks pretty dismal. Great filming. Many thanks for sharing

4:41 This why people shouldn't snort cocaine nor smoke crack. On a positive note a city ran flea market it could be that. Yes I know in the past it was more of a farmer market but if the city allowed prepared food sellers and non food sellers it could work. The reason other city run things like this if they do get a marketing company to run this it usually run by people connected to council members and/or corruption.

Everything I see in these and other Detroit videos is decay and rotten. Abandoned and burnt.. doesn't anybody have recent footage of renewal and urbanization. Is the whole city just one big apocalypse.? I'm being truthful here. It would be nice to see at least one intact block of residential areas. I'm really NOT knocking Detroit. I'm curious to see something of substance in Detroit.

RU-vid channels: The Shea Show as he goes through some nicer areas, and Charliebo313 travels some other rough hoods. Detroit is rough in numerous neighborhoods. There is quite a bit of improvement downtown and around the Wayne State U areas. These are some of the area's I was in while visiting there last year.

Use the key words "Boston Edison" and "Indian Village" in the search box. Or "Detroit historical homes." Albert Khan and the names of other architects work, too. You could also type in the names of famous people from there. eg: "Jack White's Detroit home" or Joe Louis, Eleanor Ford, etc.

Mr Shea is great. I love his little stories. LMAO @ the radiator thieves RayRay and Peanut, named for a tragically awful amateur rap funeral song in a Beavis & Butthead scit.
