Today I am invited to an abandoned homestead to look for treasures... what will I find in the forgotten buildings? watch and see! and... don't forget to subscribe!
If someone is able to salvage all that beautiful weathered wood that would be great …. Call Josh. The sliding wood door in the first house was cool too. We had to have the huge dairy barn on our property in Pennsylvania torn down as it had become structurally unsafe, salvaged much of the wood kept some sold some. It was already popular late sixties early seventies.
My parents built a home in the mid 70s and they had weathered barn siding put on the walls of the second family room. It was the most beautiful silvery color.
Nice finds. I saw some enamel ware I'd have grabbed. Blue bowl in upstairs closet, 2 white pots in a she and the red topped enamelware table in a shed. When I see the term "barn finds " on an auction bill I get excited. Lots of cool old stuff in grandpa & grandma's barn. :-)
It still catches my attention when you say "old 70s" whatever...It doesn't feel that long ago until I begin counting the decades since. I'm just happy to still be around.
I am crushing over some of the furniture and the architectural salvage. That bed that was upstairs was beautiful as were the old stoves in one of the out buildings. What a fun day and some great finds.
You should grab the canning jars. There's been a shortage, since covid-19 hit! If you find large mouth lids, buy them up! They're going for $6-10 a box in America, in some places, because of a shortage.
The latest iteration of the opening montage is really cool. New truck is a winner as long as you can support its gas-guzzling. Hope to see some surprise items show up from this exploration. Stay well Alexander.
I miss the ambulance in the intro. I understand why Alex sold it and I was okay with it I actually like still seeing it in the intro but now I feel really sad about it being sold since it's not even in the intro any longer. I know it shouldn't matter to me but I feel bummed out about it and down despite their seriously being much bigger things are going on in my life that I should be concerned about. Weird, I know. I normally embrace change really well for someone my age.
Treasure was found when that campervan appeared. Those are like gold and selling for top dollar in the States. All of that beautiful salvage, too. Neat pick.
It’s so funny you posted this! I too was out in a field.... our own property. I was in search of Autumn Olive bushes to pick berries (then make jelly) but I fell into a wood chuck hole! I didn’t hurt myself but I did fall about three foot down! Yikes! I’m glad you had a better time out in the field! 😳
I had the Tyco US1 Trucking Set as a kid! It was fantastic, I would love another one! Somewhere in the mid 1980s, my dad built a giant green painted table in the basement, it had an HO train set on it, with several loops and switches. Mixed in on the same table was the US1 Trucking set. There were additional bits of track that were intersections for the trains and the slot track. The trucks had to stop and wait for the trains. Or, you know... race the train and hope you slip past unscathed. We also ran the Dukes of Hazard slot cars on it, as well as the open wheel Indy cars. It was excellent, I loved all the motorized truck stops, that load and unload the trucks. Dad added little street lamps that light up and buildings with lights in them. And he managed to keep it all a secret until Christmas morning.
Love how you maintain your enthusiasm while fossicking around when it looks to be a bust - driven by the hope that you’ll find some treasure. Glad you actually did. The Scream’n Demons set would have made it worth it. 🤗
One of my favorite things to do is check out old Main Streets in old towns as well! I love seeing them and then going into the stores, if they are still open! My husband and I love doing that!
A sunny fall day, looked like a pretty day for an adventure. I'd be like German Bill, standing on good old Mother Earth . . . Looked kinda sketchy, like it'd fall down on you. I was watching you, my husband heard your voice and came to look too . . . We enjoy your videos so much. Feel like we're there with you. Take care and thanks for taking us with you on your adventurous life.
I wonder who was the last person to touch some of those items, who hung up the tack last, who used that saddle last and put it up? Who was the first family, now long gone, to live on that farm, the first woman who moved in with excitement at her new home, who were the kids who ran around the fields?
Thanks for sharing. It proves that You have to do a lot of digging to find Gold. Cool buts Alexander. Thanks for sharing Your Adventures 😀 👍♥️🇨🇦🎉🎉🎉🎉👏👏👏👏🎉🎉🎉🎉💯💯
I so enjoyed going through all of those sheds. I guess that’s what we would call them. I hope someone will see your video and want to buy the wood if it’s for sale. It just needs to be rescued. Thanks for being brake enough to go upstairs!! I would’ve wanted to up too! 🌺🎚😃🙏❤️
My friend has a drum set just like that. you can replace the parts. The skins come off and are sold separately. Also people love the snack sets especially if they're in the original boxes.
Wowzer, what a place! I keep being fascinated by these farms, always so FULL of junk dropepd at totally random places. I am a farmer's granddaughter so same thing with farms in Sweden as well. Stuff everywhere and at random spots. ;-D
I still find it interesting following what Alex's eye is drawn to. Obviously oil cans LOL, but he points out other items. Like a few other posters I was amazed at all the wonderful, weathered wood that is there. Definitely a treasure for a crafter/artist/woodworker. I thought there might have been a toy in one of the first buildings way back in the corner, but I think Alex would have spied it! Fun adventure today - but be safe!
@@michelleleonard2421 I thought it was funny, too, and I'm a chick. It's not crass or obscene unless someone wants to go there in their own mind. You can still "poke" people on FB...and I wouldn't poke someone I didn't know, either. That's G rated.
It was only slightly off color in the mildest way. But Bill definitely didn’t miss it and was embarrassed by it. Perhaps he was afraid it might progress from there into something less bland so he didn’t want to seem to encourage it. But Alex realized his mistake immediately and continued right on with chatter about the buildings so they could both pretend it didn’t happen. On the live this evening, he actually mentioned it and that he felt a bit bad about it.
I love your truck. What a shame to see the buildings rotting away. Someone that reclaims lumber/ wood would be so happy to recycle some of it. I’m so happy we took another tour. I love looking but I wouldn’t go through that tall grass or in any of the buildings. I get to tour without worrying about ticks and snakes. Thanks Alex for another fun adventure.
I love going thru old buildings! Ever since I was a young kid & there were 2 old farm houses just down the road. Out in the country we had to find our own entertainment lol! It didn't take much!
There are so many old buildings, was this just one farm? Was it a settlement? Did the workers live onsite? This place was a hub of activity when it was alive...
Alex, when you see piles of real old lumber as in the tongue and groove that was in some of the old barns and even that school house along the road. It had been used and then either pulled off or fell down. I was thinking about the folk who use for siding their homes and made floors out of some. I am thinking the old bleached wood that is now re purposed for wainscoting in homes. Bleached old barn wood used to sell like hotcakes and it was very high priced as decorative projects
There are some people that will pay a small fortune for real weathered barn wood for the interior walls of their homes. Sure beats the fake laminated stuff being passed off as wood today.
Many years ago while visiting my grandparents farm( in Kansas), witch they were closing down, found some old chicken coops with some old items in them. Days later coming back to California, must have steeped into some spider nests, had spider bites all over my ankles!!! Be carefull Alex!!!
Always so excited to watch if you find anything cool from abandoned places. I once found as a teen from an old abandoned house a wind up record player and a huge pile of singles from 50's and 60's. They were in very good shape but I didn't take them because they were not mine. I visited that attic many times and listened to the vinyls. Later I found out that the house had been my mothers uncles house and he had born in it in the early 1900's. One year the relatives of that uncle tore the house down and took a part of its logs to build a new quest house and the house continued its "living" in a new place. That was nice but I sure hope they reclaimed the singles too.
Major childhood flashbacks when you showed that US 1 trucking set! I begged for that set for months and about lost my mind when I ended up getting it for Christmas. It was this exact highway construction set. I had so much fun with it! Thanks for the memories. :)
My mom has an old pump organ. She regrets saying no to the guy who dug our well who said, if you give me your pump organ you can consider your well paid for. That was 35 years ago.
As an Aussie I can't help being freaked out by the way you walk through grass like that. I keep waiting for you to be attacked by a snake. We are still in our first week of Spring, and I nearly stepped on a six foot Eastern Brown this morning in my back garden. I get the same feeling when I see Alex reaching to pick stuff up in abandoned buildings, but then I have hundreds of deadly redback spiders in my sheds.
It seems like Australia is teeming with dangerous creepy crawlies out to get people. It's an awesome country that I'd love to visit, but the snakes and spiders frighten me.
Oh Alexander! I was so stressed watching you walk around that property! Please get yourself some steel toed boots to protect your feet from rusty nails!
You exploring reminds me of my cousins and I in our teen years. Lots of abandined farms building as well as houses. Boy it was fun. Didnt know enough back then to know what to buy. Ah me...Youth!
Oh Alexander, you had me chuckle out loud a number of times with your punny, funny one liners….not sure that Bill was picking up what you were putting down, but I enjoyed it immensely! Thanks! 😂
I had one of those SSP smash up derby sets. They named the cars cute names like Tough Tom and Bug 'am for a bashed up VW bug. Loved it...one of my most played with toys
Hi Jane. You are right that ticks love tall grass and animal game trails but Alex has said in previous videos that they don't seem to have any problem in the Edmonton area with ticks. It could be that they are far enough North or the weather isn't as friendly for ticks.
Those drums are actually in not bad condition it seems. That Tom Tom sounded pretty good when you set it down. The wrap is just a vinyl wrapping that you can buy off Amazon and re-wrap the kit. Someone should rescue those beauties!
When I was a teenager in the 70's I worked at a place called " M&M Delicatessen " in New Rochelle, NY. We had a big old wooden walk in cooler like that we kept our cold Beer in.
Hi Alex, In 26:08 of your video, the barn roof that was made with trees with the bark on them, on to the right of the video you missed a pile of hub caps. I hope you didn't need any of them. Anyway, thanks for all the great videos that you do. Aloha
I'd bought the Pontiac hubcaps. It's common for farmers in our area to drive school buses on the side. Most buy their own buses and contract with the schools to drive the routes. I believe the state limits how long a bus can be used and I think it was 10 years. Once they hit the 10 year mark they either trade it in for a new bus or find another use for it. It is common for them to be converted into melon haulers.
For a city girl -- it is mind boggling to see all those abandoned and falling apart buildings -- was it a successful farm at sometime? They sure put up a lot of buildings but somehow everything is now wrecked and almost worthless. Sad in a way. Glad you found some things that will be saleable
My mother had a few boxes of the snack sets and when she decided it was time to get rid of them because it had been 20 years since she’d used them, I turned my nose up and off they went to Goodwill. Fast forward 10 years and I was buying them off eBay at good prices. Now, 20 years later, I’m getting rid of them and my daughter is turning up HER nose at them! I expect her to start buying them from secondhand shops in about 3-5 years so in 2041 her daughter can turn HER nose up at them!! 😂😂
Lamont is great. Back in the 80s tree used to be a fellow who had a huge acreage full of cars. There were things fro just about every decade and in every state of decay. Hundreds. He had everything, even the most obscure one off cars from Europe. Scoda convertible, Panard coupe, Metropolitan, you name it, the guy had it, all rotting away. We spent hours wandering around drooling, and driving away in our treasured 1959 MGA. If we had the cash we would have rescued a few of them. Sadly we heard the place does not exist anymore, and was cleaned out a few years later. At least that was the rumour.
Sad that the old house in such bad condition...must have been a neat place, with the vintage baroque style wallpaper, parquet and vintage windows and wooden details. And a nice band practice room on the 1st floor... It would have been neat, if you could've tried to fix the old Pearl set..
