The Ghost Town - Part I
After the railway was expanded to the area in 1905, the townsite began to emerge from the land in 1909. There was once a railway station, two grain elevators, a school and a post office which was attached to the general store. Like most of the country at the time the area was largely settled by Europeans, people from Scotland in particular.
The general store was closed in 1968 and the post office was last in operation in 1975. There is also a locally known story that the last owner of the general store took his life in the back of the building in 1989. Although I have not been able to find any proof of this, the years following would see many different owners as they would never live there for more than a few years, before once again putting it up for sale.
The town was created because of the railway and when it was no longer necessary to have towns along the rail line, the people of the town soon disappeared like ghosts.
Today, only three main buildings remain, two houses and the former general store. There are also a few outbuildings further back in the fields.

I bet if you plugged the freezer and fridge in they’d still work. I love the simplicity and clean lines of those old appliances. Art was in everything back then-and built to last! Love that explore. And the trains! I’m fortunate to live just a few blocks from the tracks. I love hearing the trains every night.❤

I don't doubt that those appliances would still work. And you are right, the designs were well thought out in terms of visual appearance. Thank you very much for your comment!!

Love your humor and narration its amazing how there are so many abandoned towns and properties ,it makes you wonder what happened to cause the down turn ,unless its economic .
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 6 месяцев назад
Thank you! This particular one was built because of the railroad and when the rail company no longer needed towns along the line, this town began to dwindle. So I guess you could say it was for economic reasons, people migrating to larger towns/cities. Thanks again for your comment!!

So cool! Would love to see these homes at their prime. Floors did not look safe and especially those basement steps. You certainly would not want to fall through especially out in the middle of nowhere. How far away is there a populated town I wonder. Those refrigerator/freezers quite neat as were the turquoise kitchen walls. That bird was probably guarding the nests and would have attacked if you got too close. The style of the front facade of the first building was cool and unique. I love history so I really enjoyed this video. Thanks James for sharing. You may be the last person to be able to walk through since they didn’t look long for this world.

Yes and the architecture in Europe is very exotic for us in North America. I asked someone later in the trip about the dirt mounds and he said they were from prairie dogs. Merci beaucoup pour votre commentaire!!

Hi James! Interesting location! I love historic abandoned places like this. Also, those were SUPER long trains! I wouldn’t want to be living near a railway line with trains that length going past! RIP to your poor drone 😂 Th3se ghost towns always remind me of Little House on the Prairie or some other western programme or film. Looking forward to part 2!

My grandparents lived in an old home in Pennsylvania in small town in the mountains. They heated the house with 2 coal stoves. Those stairs look just like my grandparents stairs , they were nearly straight up like a ladder. I fell down those stairs a few times they were so steep. Oh yea the frig looked like hers too. Grandma cooked on a big wood stove too. My grandfather was a coal miner. This place with all the wood slat walls and the way some walls slanted from the roof made me think of their home so much. Their property met the forest on 2sides, there were no street lights . They had 2 porches one on the front of the house and one off the kitchen all wood, It was so nice to sit in the porch swing in summer in the evening, but after dark you had to stay close to the house because of bears and it was so dark not like the city at all plus they had a cranky rooster you didn’t want to disturb lol Is that thing in the field a cow patty? Sorry I wrote a book that place gave me many memories.
@StaticSpaces
@StaticSpaces 6 месяцев назад
Well glad I could help bring back those memories for you, it does sound like it was a great home and property! So I was told by someone I met later on that, it is the dirt dug up by the gophers. Although I had thought maybe they were dried up cow patties. Thank you very much for your comment!!

Great explore!! Love content like that. I live in a small town, about 2 blocks from the train. Dont notice it much, funny how yiu just get used to things. That vulture was hoping for you to drop, your probably the only food source he's seen in a while. Lol. Keep doing what your doing, your videos are awesome. Stay safe.

Hi James Greetings from Long Island, New York. This was pretty cool. We don’t have any ghost towns around here where I live so this was a treat. You have to be so careful in these old places with the holes in the floor. Those birds 🐦‍⬛🦅 have really taken up residency in that house. That vulture was scary too. Can’t wait to see the second video you have for us. Thank you James for sharing this cool ghost town with all of us. Take care of yourself and stay safe.👍🆒 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 star content.😊

Maybe if they made the tall, turnstile-type gates twice as wide so people can get through with luggage and have a couple-few "toll booth-type" gates for disabled persons (manned). IDK. I don't live there nor use public transit, just thinking out loud, I guess. I feel bad for the decent, law abiding New York citizens. I think if they had conservative leadership things might actually change for the better. Just my opinion.
