The Movie Director's Mansion
Sitting within the rainforest and above a towering cliff overlooking the ocean, lies this long abandoned mansion.
Originally built in 1926 and designed by architect Percy Leonard James, who was also responsible for other significant buildings in the area.
In 1998 the home was sold to director John Lee Thompson and his wife Penny.
Ten years later the mansion and large property were sold to an undisclosed foreign buyer.
More recently, the home has become heavily vandalised, covered in graffiti, with walls completely demolished and all of the bathroom fixtures tossed and destroyed. Sadly, demolition is the likely future fate of this once prominent house.

That mansion would have been so nice in its day. When people go and paint crap on the inside and outside, it just shows the IQ of the people. It certainly doesn't make them look smart. Great video!

Hi SS! Wow what a place! Ok, that blood totally creeped me out….eww. How weird. I can understand why a place abandoned like this would become a magnet for kids, partiers, squatters etc. But how crazy is seeing practically everything covered in graffiti. I wonder if there was ever a safe way down to the ocean. Cape Fear was an excellent movie(the 1991 version & the original 1962 version also)Great video James. Stay safe

James, I hope you understand when I say I had a hard time seeing this house due to the fact that the destruction and graffiti is so massive. I do appreciate the beautiful location and how big the house is. It must of been so very lovely. Graffiti in a rainforest? Why? You would have thought they wouldn’t want to cause all that ugliness in such a perfectly beautiful location. I’m sorry James you asked us to ignore the graffiti, but there was an overwhelming amount, along with the destruction. Such a shame and insult to the former home and the rainforest. I guess some people have no respect. I do admire you for being able to see past all the chaos and destruction the poor house has.

Well, that area had a few popular locations and they were so well known that all the idiots have visited and destroyed them. It's in the rainforest technically but the 30 acre property is surrounded by other homes. So it isn't exactly a remote location. But I agree, it's disgusting what people have done to the home and is why I never share locations publicly. Despite the damage it is still a lovely home in a beautiful area. That was a neat explore! I wonder if the graffiti “artists” wore headlamps or if they tagged the walls before the windows were boarded up? The reason the vandalism began after 2018 was probably because itit’s location got out on the Internet and people being people just couldn’t leave things alone. I absolutely love those trees and that 1 was ginormous. I have to admit, there is some nice artwork in that graffiti. I'd really like to see more restrictions placed on foreign home buyers to keep them from allowing houses to go to ruin. If this house was owned by a resident it may have been saved. The views are amazing and don't sit on the moss, hahhaha.

Ya, this country currently has a 2 year ban on foreigners buying homes in the country. It might help keep a few houses from sitting for years and falling apart but it won't help the housing shortage very much. Ya, that moss was saturated, lesson learned! 😂 Thanks very much for your comment!!

I imagine at one time this was a beautiful home, unfortunately now it’s a graffiti canvas. I don’t understand why people do this stuff to other peoples property. If it’s possible keep us updated if you ever plan to visit this place again. I’m curious as to what will become of this place. This is a very interesting video James.

Hi James! Waow this place is amazing! I love big old homes like this. Definitely prefer these to the more modern mansions. It’s a shame it’s destroyed but you can still see past the destruction and get a good idea of what it was like. You can definitely tell from the house itself and the grounds and location that it belonged to someone in the filming industry. Would make a great location for a film. It would be amazing if it was restored. Waow how many baths were in the place? I shouldn’t admit this but I recognise those characters 😂 Can just hear the theme tune in my head 😂 Vandals are nothing but wee ***** destroying places like this. Thanks very much for the video!

What an amazing house. I would love to see it in its prime but c’est la vie. Beautiful setting enhances what it would have been like to live there. A lot of effort went into creating it and to see it falling to natural decay and kids stupidity doubly sad. I hope bored teens will someday soon find a more constructive and positive means to express themselves. It was overkill of disgusting graffiti in there. Such a grand place though. How close was the nearest home? Seems so secluded. Enjoyed this explore James, despite the ugly teenaged “art”. By the way do you know the name of that haunting melody near the end of the video?

It was really only secluded because of the size of the lot. It was in a developed area with neighbours on all sides but very much felt like it was in the middle of nowhere. Glad you enjoyed this one, I will have to look up which song it was. Thank you very much for your comment!!
