We went to explore this Abandoned Hotel in Scotland only for @Yaboigeegee to set off an alarm, at that point we left but we returned a week later and managed to find away in RAW Footage in Scotland
I played golf there in the late 80's & of all the many courses i've played it still sticks in my mind as a memorable place. Crazy thing is I still recommend it to people as a place to play - I wasn't aware of what's happened to it!!
This was a exciting tour. It was nice to see all that amazing woodwork. It's a pity that it was left like this. I'm also glad that vandals have not been in there. Thanks man. Should have a break with a couple of pints. We're enough pubs there. Greetings from Toronto Canada July 2020.
Wow what a beautiful hotel that would of been in its day . The wood panelling is absolutely beautiful &the staircase too ! Thank you for sharing yet another fabulous explore !
I can picture in my head lots of very well off people walking up and down that grand staircase, it must have been so beautiful, all that carved wood was gorgeous. I bet its knocked down and houses built, which is an absolute tragedy. Thanks for this guys, loved every minute 😍😍
It’s actually potentially being reopened including the golf course. only at consultation stage so long way off anything happening, the owners stay in Asia
I worked there from 1999-2004 when it closed as a hotel for the first time. It reopened for a short time as a hotel after that but the administrators running it closed it a few years later. The golf courses were kept open until October 2019 when the hotel was given back to its previous owner after a 15 year long court case deciding who owned it. Such a shame of what was a beautiful hotel in its prime.
Hi Martin, your comment has clarified what I was wondering about when I saw the calendar hanging on the wall showing October 2019. Judging from the falling plaster and general bad condition of the building, I knew that it hadn't been used as a hotel for many years. The 15-year court case would probably make for an interesting story on its own! The current owner obviously still cares about his property with the security trailer in front and all of the boarded up windows. I imagine that you also have some entertaining stories about your experience working there!
@@tonyantonio7104 yes some very entertaining stories from working there. Still probably my most favourite job ever, just for the fun that was had. The current owner has made no intentions for the hotel public at present, he has had offers to buy it but turned them down. Currently there is work being carried out on it but I can't see it ever opening again whilst the owner has it.
@@martinkay6466 Thank you for the response, Martin! I'm glad to know that you really enjoyed working at the hotel. Another contributor to this comment section was kind enough to include a link to the court case regarding the legal owner of this property, which was quite a fascinating read. If I understood this court document correctly, the last year the hotel was open was 2011, which really surprised me when I saw the state of disrepair the building is in now, with plaster falling down in some of the rooms. The most interesting part was that the members of the golf club maintained the golf course at their own expense, so I'm guessing it is held in high regard by many people. It would be ideal if these devoted club members could purchase the property as they would be the ideal stewards for its preservation. As a sidenote, I was surprised to hear that the guys in the video said "ay" instead of "yes" or "yeah" as we do here in the US. I don't know if this is colloquial Scottish English or the norm, but it was quite lovely. Cheers!
Guys I like the exploring but please. If you pick it up put it back where you found it and if you open it then close it, it's just respect and it teaches the younger generation to do the same. Otherwise keep em coming :) also some narration would be good explaining what you see and any information about the place.
What a great explore Alec. It's bloody criminal how these places so often meet their demise. 99% of the time it's government taxes, but in this case I suppose it's just lack of membership fees that have led this place to ruin. Ta for sharing such an interesting location. 🤗
One of the worst things to happen to these buildings are the plant overgrowth as their roots destroy the fabric of the building,i see this in Glasgow buildings all to often
Wow Alec you’ve excelled this time you really have , what a place , it’s been decaying for some time before it was closed though , you find such amazing places , although not sure how you are going to surpass this one
Thanks Caley most of everything i have now is a far travel, soon as this all blows over ill be back travelling again hoping to hit some more amazing places thanks again
This is such an awesome place. Some of the rooms that have survived the witherings of time are beautiful. It's so neat how you go thru s few rooms and they look worn out then open a door andvtheres tjis beautiful bathroom, even the toilets are clean. That one with the exquisite woodwork was beauriful.
Wow! This is a huge hotel, love all the woodwork, Beautiful fireplaces, the green room was my favorite, until I saw 39:36. What a spectacular photo. That awesomely beautiful wooded design bar, such craftsmanship. 46:25 In the last two days, this is the 2nd time I've seened this Armored statue. Is this a Knighthood Templar Alec? A Crusader? Hey don't forget the 🚽Toilet paper, a very rare find in the U.S. People are fighting like cats🐱&🐶 dogs for it.🤣 Glad you folks got in without the interference from security.👮🏻♂️
Now THAT is screaming "Mad Majestic" !! What a masculine looking building, radiates power almost, and I am viewing this through a lens...computer screen !!? It was quite amazing. At 16:46 almost looked like a figure w/yellow top, red joggers, leaning over! (just me) At 31:30 Is that Lucifer carved (a depiction of) in there I see, those are massive beautiful impressive doors! The handles are so low, love that!! At 41:50 I hear a burp/grunt, then a white mist lower part of the shot?? Please tell me that was you!?? Awesome guys! :) Peace&Prayers from Montreal, Canada Really enjoyed that keep on keeping on!
That would have been an impressive place in its day. Pity there’s nae drink left in the bars eh l🥴 The place is like a maze with all the staircases and loads o rooms and corridors. I love places like that. Thanks for sharing the explore Alec. Hope u r managing to stay safe n well during the covid-19 outbreak
What a really good explore. That place had a beautiful bar with all the wood cravings. Then wow the main staircase again beautiful wood details. That place sure was massive! Hope all of you guys and gals are doing okay during these crazy times. Stay safe and virus free! 💜
🛼🛼And at 7:56 you will see the space that I’d convert into one very cool roller rink!!!🛼🛼💗💗 That stairway is absolutely gorgeous!! And then, watch what happened? You went in a grodi room with mold and the paper hanging down. What a difference. I wonder what it was like to work there? It’s really beautiful!! The carpentry work is so rich. At least you’ll know where to go and get the last roll of toilet in the world during Covid. 😂😂 Ya killed me when your friend went on about Giving you a game of golf!!😂😂 Here you go for all your work walking around in there. Thank you!!😊🥟🍺🍺
Just came across this for some reason but my wife used to work in the hotel, she couldn't believe how much it has went down hill , she said it was a fantastic place to work until it changed hands then the person didn't care for it as the previous honour and eventually he ran it into the ground , bloody shame .
You definitely need to add narrative and some history,as well as practice panning to the details of the ornate paneling and the real beauty. It’s beautiful carved fireplace mantles would have been lovely to see up close and in more detail.
Did you notice quality in the building? These days it is MDF and plasterboard. We are going back in time. What comes to mind? Move along, next and slash it up. No more mortice and tennon, it quick set mastic. No more key in joints, its butt joints. No more 2mm joint its 10-12 mm joints.
If the leaks causing interior damage are repaired and it isn't allowed to be vandalized this hotel can still be saved. Too many nice buildings become victims of demolition by neglect.
Hello Alec and friends, cool explore brother such an amazing house I really hope the owner has the money to at least try and save this place you can understand the alarms and sensors everywhere definitely wouldn’t want the Romanian metal thieves in there the roof alone with all its lead must be worth a fortune if it was my place I would for sure have a couple of guard dogs and security on site with it on UTUBE now it’s got a big red arrow on it for vandals and thieves, that staircase was a beauty a shame it had a lot of decay inside a lot of rooms , thx Alec wee man cool adventure.
Although, the windows and doors are boarded up, the old hotel still looks gorgeous and impressive from the outside. Looking majestic, it has a unique structure of it's own, which is synonymous with buildings built during the 18th hundred. It's a shame to have it neglected and left in shambles, probably by the owner, due to lack of funds, perhaps. The Sottish government should step in and declare the building as a national heritage, restore it to it's former glory and protect it, maybe under the Scotland Heritage Act or whatever Act that falls under the preservation of old building. Inside, the building has an old forgotten era to it. Most of the walls are covered with wooden panels. The staircase has beautiful intricate barristers carving, which is not commonly seen elsewhere. Most of the furniture are antique looking. At 29:22, beautiful paintings are strewn all over the floor, which should be donated or salvage by the owner. The fire place at 30:06 is unique and one of it's kind. At 56:50 a hanging portrait of an elderly gentlemen hanging at the staircase, could be the original owner of the hotel. Some parts of the building are new additions to the building, like the office area which marred the beauty of the hotel. I was recommended to this channel, most probably by an unseen force....hahaha. It would be lovely, if Alec communicates often with the viewers, and glide them along in his beautiful adventure, as he moves from one area to another, while at the same time conversing with the viewers........"Here we are folks at the foyer of this beautiful hotel. Some said it's haunted by a.........." Show a little bit of yourself as you speak and joke with the viewers. Your warmth and sincerity will surely attract more viewers. Unless you're camera shy and look like the Phantom of the opera........or Dracula during his bad days. Just kidding. Anyway, I enjoy the journey, thoroughly. Thanks Alec.
What a Shame that it has been Abandoned ,Must of been a Beautiful Place in the past and could be again ..Needs a lot of money to bring it back to its glory but someone should do it.
Perhaps the person in charge of looking after the place who lives in the caravan has a lot to do with the total destruction of this place. Ask the owners if they are aware of what their man has been up to. Next the place will be burned down by the same patrolling guy . Just wait and see.
Thats funny. Making a ton of noise and whispering. But a nice group of young people. Thanks for showing the place. The beautiful stairwell with the nice wood work was such a treat. What was the date on the calendar please or when did the place close? Any history? Thumbs up.
I used to stay here when I worked for Glaxo in the late 90s-2004. Whenever we had to visit the factory at Montrose, Glaxo would put us up here and I always had the bedroom at the front above the main door overlooking the flagpoles. My only other memory is whenever you came back to the hotel there was always a chap who asked if you wanted a nightcap from the bar. We spent some money in that bar on the company card I can tell you! Such a shame to see it like this, I was shocked as it was a lovely place in a lovely area.
This hotel probably went under because of the hideous decor. The decor against the amazing wood craftsmanship, was just horrible. Thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed it.
I worked there for years, some of the decor was hideous, the wallpaper you see in the dining room wasn't originally there, the Japanese that owned when I first went there to work in the 80s looked after the place and the staff, then unfortunately Mr liu bought it and run the hotel to the ground.....
what a top place it looks like they stopped using the top floors as needed loads of money spending on them but the rest of the place could be got back again so long as not wrecked the wood work is out of this world hope they get it up and running again top vid keep them coming
top place and vid on the down side i would sack the security firm it could have been looters that went in or vandals the security firm could have put self powered internet cameras with motion sensors that ring you up and send picks of what is going on these are on ebay cheep so if they cant be there all the time its still covered i feel sorry for the owner that dose not no what the security firm is not doing we all no that you would not take or damage any thing keep the vids coming and hope this place gets sorted soon thanks john @@ExploringwithAlec
what a waist of a lovely building just read there it closed in November 2019 due to not enough staff and increasing bills the owners decided to close it what a shame am with use that's a remarkable building inside u would defo get lost in it another great vid alec keep em coming
Great find I thought the inside was a bit disappointing though with its tacky decor upstairs which didn't complement the outside. The staircase and the wooded panelled rooms downstairs and all the details was amazing. Thank you for sharing.
The story of This place is a sad one, foreign investors and long disputes and the result is a lost soul of a building. As a young child I remember good times when the place had life, energy and character. Please respect the place and don’t strip it, burn it or damage it. Hopefully it will find a future.
Great explore as always, Alec. The hotel looks as if it's been shut for years by the amount of decay. Yet the golf clubhouse had a 2019 calendar up. The wood panelling in the house is amazing, it's certainly been an amazing place in its day.
2 Golf Course had been kept as 'going concerns' since 2011 by local golfers until Autumn 2019 when prolonged Court proceedings returned the location to it's overseas owner & the golfers ceased their involvement.
Fascinating history! There are many articles online on the history and legal battles over this location. It is hard to follow but overall it appears that a Taiwanese man bought the location originally in 1994 but it went under in 2002 and a liquidator took over and all kinds of legal issues started. Either way the Taiwanese man now got back control over the property after some 15 years. The issue is that in the mean time the building fell in to disrepair and the people who ran the golf course from membership fees have given up on it in November 2019 and so the Golf Course I assume is now abandoned as well so the entire property appears to now be dead. Perhaps the owner wants to redevelop it but considering it in the middle of nowhere it seems very odd.
I used to live down there and when i was 15 in 1980 it was abandoned then and in such a mess we used to ride horses in the field next to it loved the house just never saw inside used to be a germanshepherd tied up outside it tied to a barrel but didn`t stop people breaking in to it also guy that owned the mansion then never did anything with it, thats when was sold as golf club to a chinese company dont know much after that loved seeing round it after almoet 40 years and would be a stunning place if restored and beautiful views too
This hotel is look like newly abandoned some rooms are still ok some are not..maybe they abandoned this for renovation purpose...the view outside is beautiful.. i love watching ur videos... What about a hunted house!.😊..when u see a calendar or date while u filming pls. focus ur camera fr even just a 5 second i am counting the date when did they abandoned the bldg or the house.......sorry my english wasnt good..
I see this as trespass. I like the really rough and lost places you visit but I am concerned you 'got in' to this building - even so determined to go back a week later. I know you respect places but others who follow just might not and cause havoc. Disappointing. This is not difficult to work out where it is located - shame to point the way for others.
I am sick to my back teeth with the number of grand buildings throughout Scotland which are allowed to fall into a shocking state of repair, often this is intentional so the owners can then knock them down and sell the land or convert into housing. We spend an absolute fortune maintaining works of art - why not our historic buildings? One positive note is that after local campaigns Clackmannanshire Council re-purchased Greenfield House after the owners allowed it to become dangerous and a den for Junkies. Local Councils need more powers and budget for this type of work. Bugger supporting minority interests like Scottish Ballet etc and lets have these buildings repurposed for the community.
Very big hotel I bet it was gorgeous. When it was up and running. I bet y'all got scared. When the alarm went off. Did the police ever come. Thanks for sharing your video.
I know explorers shouldn't give away locations and I agree with that but I was just wondering how you find where all these places are Are you friends with other explorers or do you just spend a long time searching on the internet I'm just curious
