wonderful video by 2 amazing mechanics, thank god Aki didn't help with anything major. He would've made even more issues for the Abarth!

Just bought a 1.4l Renegade and while doing maintenance, I found that the coolant is dirty with what i assume is oil. Seems like I might be taking off the head soon 😢

Great build series! Do you think I would be able to pull the head on mine without removing the intake and exhaust manifold completely out of the car? Might have a few bent valves and just want to quickly replace the head.

Do you mean pulling the head without taking off the manifolds? Yes you can.

@@wellseegarage I worded it kind of weird, I bought an abarth with a timing belt that slipped off and bent the valves. I want to do the least amount of work possible to remove the head.

@nathanlewtschuk3566 how are you doing on this?? Did you get the head our with block in the car??
@wellseegarage

It’s possible, ours was only out to solve some other problems and do a once over.

@@thargor6750 Yeah I got the head out with the block in the car, it's pretty easy. Just have to remove the front end. I can send you pictures. I got the head and intake manifold out in one piece.

Sorry to keep asking questions, but my blown 2013 500T is driving me crazy. I can't seem to find any reliable information about which model cylinder heads will fit. Does it have to be from a Turbo VIN H 8th digit like my motor? What shop did you get that head from? And lastly, what's that red oil/grease you used for assembly? I know I've got a big job ahead of me.

8th digit being H is correct. I got the head from New Jersey speed shop but considered one from eBay as well (was in Italy). The red stuff was permatex assembly lube.

My 2013 500 Turbo has zero compression in cylinder 2 and the dealer says it's a bad valve and they want $6500 to replace the head. Is it possible to pull the head with the engine in the car, and can I ask how much that remanufactured head was? I'm still not convinced that it wasn't the MA brick causing the zero compression but I'm kind of at the mercy of their diagnostic.

6500 dollars is another 500 turbo, I would not go that route. It is possible to pull the head with the engine in the car you’ll just have less room to work with, unless you remove the core support. The head I got was 1200. I’d suggest you get a borescope with a side camera to check the valves. If it turns out to be a valve replacing the head is not that difficult of a job.

@@wellseegarage Thanks for the info. The dealer did a borescope and said they can see a crack in one valve, but looking at the picture they sent me, I can't see a damn thing. There's no way I would ever consider spending that $6500 on the head work. Next step is replacing the MA filter/screen, then pulling the MA brick, and then the head if all else fails. If I get to the point of pulling the head, I may have more questions. :)

This scared me enough to reconsider getting an abarth

In the abarths defense, these issues arose from a bad junkyard motor. If you get an abarth that was maintained and not driven by a lead foot, tons of fun can be had.
