I'm Swedish. I can talk like they do, but learning English in school, we were always strongly encouraged to drop any sort of accent we may have had. I'm sure ABBA tried ther best to sound as English or American as they could, but they weren't successful in the end. But you like it! I've always been rather embarrassed about it. And moving abroad, it was the first thing I got rid of.
@@briann7495 Being Swedish, I'm biased, but I personally think they were greater than the Beatles. Which you'll no doubt disagree with. Still, I'm surprised they're still being played in America. The American market proved to be the most resistant to their charms at the time. Only a couple of top 10 hits. Compare that with the UK, where they had 9 numbers ones and 19 top 10's...
You’re exactly right, their voices give me chills, I love all ABBA’s songs, I have raised my children on their music and they love it. Their music is timeless. You’re really on a roll today!!! Love It!!!!
For me, this was their strongest vocal performance that totally captured their unique soung. When they hit that chorus "BOOM" , it sends chills down my spine.
I knew you would love this when i saw the title. 🙂 You're face is priceless during that first verse. 😂 Congrats on truly discovering the power of Abba. "Fernando" is another Abba classic, as is "The Way Old Friends Do" (live in London)
I love the expressions on his face. It’s like he’s listening to music from another planet. Meaning it’s so absolutely different from any music he’s heard before it’s completely alien. That’s so wonderful. 🙂. I don’t listen to too much modern pop but I’ve heard various composers describe the modern era of pop as the death of melody and ABBA is about as rich in melody as you can get. They are also the masters of harmony which is always chill inducing. This song in particular falls into the, try not to tap your foot challenge, category.
So far this song has raised in the region of $4,000,000 for UNICEF since 1979. A truly very generous gift by the band. Stunning group and the ladies harmonies are still unrivaled to this day in my opinion. They make my hairs stand on end.
Yes, I agree. For those who don't have the ability to hear the beauty and power in their voices and in turn don't feel the lyrics all I can say is, there must be something missing in their hearts to not get it. I love this song, as well as "Fernando", "Dancing Queen", and "Take a Chance". ABBA have so many good songs, but those are my favorites. 👍👍
Yes, this is one of the songs in the world that has resulted in the most money to charity, by their continous donation to UNICEF everytime this song is played.
I got chills and I cried all the way through, that's how ABBA always effects me, the girls beautiful voices but see the two guys with them they're responsible for the words and music
I was born in 1966, ABBA's first song, Ring Ring, came out in about 1972, and I have been a huge fan ever since. I am now in my mid 50s and I still listen to their music... remembering nearly every word of every song... they just struck a chord with the world...
I've also been in this rabbithole, listening to nothing but Abba all day long. All their songs are deeply engraved in my mind. Glad you also like them so much. ((although that snowman is a bit silly))

Eagle is an interesting song you might want to react to. It really does make you feel like you're soaring high in the sky.
Hello it's just a girl from Canada I think you are so totally awesome you are sweet and sensitive and I absolutely love most of the music you play and I love Abba the Swedish group apparently they won Eurovision in 72 I was too young for that but I love the fact that they are Swedish my mother is Swedish my father is English, so that's why I started to listen to them but I went oh my God they're good and I am so glad you like them God bless you and keep on reacting because you can tell it's right from your heart and it shows on your face take care
They won in 1974, the year before I was born. They had two songs to chose from and they probably made the right choice with Waterloo even if the other one, Hasta Mañana, is my favourite Abba song.
I want you to know that seeing you react to these videos reminds me of hearing ABBA for the first time. That sense of awe and wonder and just like...where did this come from? Just lovely.
Just their smiles alone make me melt in my shoes. Thanks, JB, as usual for the amazing reaction and appreciating great music. I believe, this song must be especially close to your heart, cause, as you say, you sometimes fell down and forlorn and need a friend's shoulder to cry on. Well, you have friends in God, ABBA and us. Thanks and God Bless!
I makes me happy to witness your joy and enjoyment of all this wonderful music. Thabkyou for sharing your thoughts and feelings! Knowing that you enjoy story songs, let me throw a couple of suggestions your way, two songs that always made me cry as a kid: "The Green Green Grass of Home" with Tom Jones and "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Old Oak Tree" with Tony Orlando.
Such beautiful voices & harmonies! And yes to Fernando! Don't ever leave the rabbit hole; never lose your sense of wonder when it comes to music & the astounding beauty of the human voice. If that doesn't move us, I don't know what will.
I'm so very glad you love this one... it's my very favourite ABBA song. Fun fact: until 2014 half the royalties from this song were donated to children's charity UNICEF, after 2014 it became 100% of all royalties for the song.
There is a full Spanish version of this song, too, JB. They sang it as well. Amazingly, despite not knowing Spanish, they sung the Spanish version by rote and Agnetha and Anni-Frida sound just as beautiful vocally singing that version as well!
Don't even try and climb out of the ABBA hole. It's a glorious place to be, a place I have been since I was 10 years old. And if you love this song, then you will love Fernanda, Knowing Me Knowing You, The Winner Takes It All, My Love My Life, and Why Did It Have To Be Me. You'll get those chills from everyone of these songs.
OMG! Just had a flashback to the first time I heard this song, about 1994, I was 15 and was listening to my newly bought ABBA gold at about midnight with my earphones on. I was a bit like you, blown away! Everything I heard from ABBA was incredible as I continued all the rest!
I love to see your face reacting to, and appreciating good music. That is something you can’t fake and that’s why I love your videos. I always get chills when I hear truely wonderful music and it’s a great feeling, and that’s what happens when I listen to Queen and ABBA. That’s REAL music.
I love watching the joy in your face when you listen to them! My favourite band ever! I know everything about them. First heard them in 1976 when I was 3 years old. They are one of the biggest selling bands ever.
What a wonderful critique and I agree with you 100%. ABBA brought a Gold standard to pop music that has never been equalled or bettered. Pop perfection.
When I am stuck in the kitchen cooking or cleaning up, I always listen to Abba or Roy Orbison music. Yes I am in my 70s and I have very wide taste in music - only the good stuff! I love your reactions, JBLETHAL.
Music is a gift from God, IMHO, and ABBA’s voices and harmonies and exquisite melodies are among the very best, aren’t they?! So glad you are experiencing all these wonderful songs of our youth, James. You are such a beautiful and precious soul! Love your videos! 💞 As others have said, please do ABBA’s song, “Fernando”!! You won’t regret it!!
Cool! 😃✨👌🏻 Hi JBLETHAL... I'm Australian, and have been an ABBA fan since I was 11 in 1976. I haven't had a chance to see a lot of what others have written here, but I just wish to say that I always love seeing people discover (and then like/love) ABBA. No doubt, someone here's mentioned that the group is Swedish, and *very* popular in the 1970s especially in Australia from 1975 to 1977, when 'ABBAmania' was definitely comparable to the 'Beatlemania' of the 1960s (officially working together as ABBA form 1972 to 1982 - and recently for some new songs; originally planned for a CGI touring-project that fans have called ‘ABBAtars’), as well as giving you some other contexts. ABBA weren't 'as' successful originally in the USA (per capita, when compared with the rest of the world that had access to their music at the time [ie: there were limited numbers of sales of ABBA music in communist countries/territories during that time], although, ABBA did sell fairly well in the US). A revival of ABBA interest started around the late 1980s (back then, with a sort of a 'trendy underdog status in some areas), then from the early 1990s, a mainstream revival started - and has ebbed and flowed ever since. However, it wasn't until a musical called 'Mamma Mia' (which uses ABBA songs throughout) started in theatre in London in 1999, that started the ball rolling for a 'delayed' amazingly sizable-popularity of ABBA to start in USA from 2001, when 'Mamma Mia' started on Broadway, New York, in 2001; then became a movie, released in 2008 - starring Meryl Streep (amongst many others). They toured Scandinavia, Europe, Australia, Canada, USA and Japan (mainly 1973, 1975, 1977 and 1979/1980), but as each of ABBA individually got most of the 'touring-bug' out of their systems in the 1960s (Frida, with the red hair, sung in jazz bands from her teenage years; blonde Agnetha wrote and sung pop; Benny [the bearded one {for most of the time …lol].] played, wrote and sang in a rock group called the Hep Stars; and Björn did similar in a folk group called the Hootenanny Singers), so they toured comparatively little as ABBA in the 1970s, because they preferred to be a 'studio group' so they could spend more time to concentrate on the craft of writing songs, experimenting with different genres, and producing all in the studio. Benny Andresson wrote most of the music; Björn Ulvaeus wrote most of the lyrics; Frida (Anni-Frid) Ruess (nee Lyngstad) is a mezzo-soprano; Agnetha is a soprano (and co-wrote two songs for ABBA: ‘Disillusion’ and ‘I’m Still Alive’); their first manager (the late Stig Anderson) helped write some earlier lyrics and gave some earlier song titles. Neither Benny nor Björn can read music, are self-taught (thus would not necessarily be influenced by the strictures that can come through formal musical instruction), and are influenced by many musical genres. Benny & Björn produced their albums with engineer Michael B. Tretow; plus Benny & Björn valued and included Frida & Agnetha’s input into ABBA’s music as they all crafted the songs together in the studios. I'm sorry I've waffled (hahaha), but as I said: I love seeing people discover ABBA ...lol. Here are some good sites to find out more about ABBA... • There’s an official RU-vid page (with ‘Dancing Queen’; of which I’m assuming you may also have heard in these comments, and was ABBA’s *only* number 1 in USA, but was one of many number 1’s for ABBA in other countries/territories): ru-vid.com/show-UCYPs4y5esNqx6ax1CxZws6Q • One of the best long-running sites for accurate fannish information, plus accurate lyrics: ‘ABBA Omnibus’: www.abbaomnibus.net • ABBA’s official website, called ‘ABBA the Site’: abbasite.com • ABBA’s official museum in Stockholm, Sweden (‘ABBA the Museum’): www.abbathemuseum.com/en/ • One of ABBA-fandom’s largest Facebook pages, that also has updates of real ABBA-related news, called ‘ABBAtalk’: facebook.com/groups/abbatalk/ Cheers for now 😃
Those girls could sing!!!! And draw out any emotion!!!! Chiquitita is unique because it is one of the few pop songs with 4 distinct melodies. Listen carefully.
I grew up listening to ABBA; and all the 70’s music is the best! The writing talent of ABBA, the beauty and charm of the women, and perfect blend of their pure voices all come together to make the most quintessential pop music ever. Try listening to SOS James. My favorite video of them is when they perform for the Dick Clark’s American Bandstand and sing SOS. They just look so gorgeous and dance so naturally and sweet. Their music always makes me happy, and I can see that on your face too.
I am having so much fun watching your reaction! Can't believe how much you love ABBA! It is wonderful! Good for you! If you have not, you should really watch the movie, Mama Mia ... it is funny, touching, and full of ABBA songs!! Would love to hear your reaction to that too!
I loved there songs even back to the first time I heard them in 1974 when Waterloo came on the radio I didn't remember there name but the DJ. said it was 2 lovely or beautiful girls from Sweden I cant remember which word he used. then in the next couple of years I would here and like them but didn't know who it was singing . in about 1978 public television played an ABBA concert I then became a fan I was so impressed. and this song you just played was and probably is my favorite . I suspected that I might be ridiculed a little back in high school for listening to ABBA I didn't really hide it either. Its very nice to read the comments here and to here your comments that we all share a great appreciation for this talented group.
Don't worry mate, we all had huge crushes on Agnetha and Frida, back in the day. Swedish band singing in English about a Spanish theme. Now THAT's talent.
You are amazing. You actually HEAR what's going on - what a gift you are for doing this! You are helping people come back to LIFE. How can you not have chills listening to them?! Exactly. You are such a gift, and your heart and honesty are exactly what the world needs right now.
Ha, I just recommended this on your previous video :) There's a reason why ABBA was the biggest band of the mid-to-late 70s. This is much more than 'just' pop music. Bjorn & Benny were geniuses, and everyone was in love with Agneta & Frida :)
I love Abba they are def. from my parents time which yea seemed like such a more positive innocent time!!! Love how they have such an upbeat feeling makes you wanna dance!!!! Thank you soo much for your videos they do make me smile to see your reaction sometimes when I’ve been feeling soo soo low & depressed they have helped me feel better💞🌻🌻🌻👏🏼
Wow, even back in the day I took flack for loving on some ABBA, I am also loving the fact that a young guy like you can appreciate them!! I see your heart in this and you just earned a new subscriber!!
Abba was HUGE in the 70's. Such a great band. I think you'd love SOS. And did you know that neither one of the girls spoke English. Their manager wanted them to start singing in English so they could get into a bigger audience. So they both learned English and the rest is history.
Great reactions to ABBA! Check out The winner takes it all, Gimme Gimme Gimme, Summer night city, If it wasn't for the nights(..there are so many good songs to choose from). Oh, and don't forget SOS - one of the greatest popsongs ever made, according to John Lennon, Pete Townshend and Ray Davies

"What old friends do" will bring tears too your eyes...
Spanish is my first language and watching your channel is one of the chances i have to improve my english skills, they have a spanish version of this song btw, brings back childhood memories of my dad taking me to his work blasting this in his car lol, one of the very few cool memories i have with my dad, so yeah, i really like this song :)
I have just joined 'your happy band of followers', loving your reactions @JJBLETHAL.. I have loved ABBA for over 50 years and still do.. Best wishes to you from Wales UK .. :D
A Swedish group, singing English about a Spanish named girl...how international is this? And this was 40 years ago. Abba's music was so well produced with the right mix of instruments, voices and they just knew how to put a song together. That is why they had so hits in a relatively short time, that they were able to make a musical (and 2 movies) driven mostly by their songs. How many groups can say that?
You are lucky to experience so much joy from music. You can tell you were born with music in your blood and bones. God gave you of gift for sure. Just keep enjoying what’s in you because it is very very rare to feel music like you do
I'm a hairy arsed construction worker and when my equally hairy arsed workmates and me start to get pissed off and argue with each other we always stick abba on to put a smile on everybody's face and stop us from killing each other. Anyone who says they dont like abba is either dead inside or lying
Nice reaction James, such a nice song when this song came out I did not understand the lyrics and internet did not exist yet so I could not see the words and translate them but I loved the melody, their voice and I could feel the vibe it gave me. I could feel that in all their music, especially The winner takes it all. Now that my english is good enough to understand the lyrics, this one in particular makes me cry every time.
You gotta understand JB, most people don't feel much other than a beat. I've been in music and production for a looong time. It's always amazing how unmusical most are. I had a great painter in my studio one day and just for fun I changed the key of the piano part. Obviously it sounded terrible but she couldn't hear the difference. You have a great ear, a sensitive musical palate. Be thankful. It's why people like me watch you. You get it. You validate what we know.
The harmonies of the two women are on a par with the Carpenters. The boy's music output is up there with McCarthy/'Lenon. Try 'Hole in your Soul' & 'Honey Honey'
I would pay good money to see you drive around while you jam to ABBA.....I understand why you like it....very cool to see....an excellent reactor you are for sure.
What makes it even more remarkable is they are Swedish, English isn't their first language. Matter of fact I read somewhere Agnetha (the blonde singer) learned just enough English to sing the songs, she's not very fluent. Abba's by far my favorite group, Benny and Bjorn wrote amazing songs and the songs are beautifully sung. I'm glad you are getting into them, JB!
It's Swedish. Love them. They have some awesome music. Hope you have snacks and drinks for the rabbit hole lol. You will never climb out with all the awesome music you haven't gotten to yet. Love your facial expressions, priceless.
Check out their songs Gimme, Gimme, Gimme and On And On And On(there is a great live version ABBA On and On and On Live 1981 - Dick Cavett Meets ABBA) .
It´s a little bit weird with that big smiling snowman in the background, so one should know that this isn´t one of their official music videos. "Chiquitita" was one of their singles that was released without a video. This is from a Christmas TV-show in Switzerland.
There's actually a Spanish version they did of this song. Also, there was a time it was not cool to admit you liked ABBA. At that time ABBA Gold (greatest hits) was one of the best selling albums worldwide! Sounds like a secret pleasure for many. ; ) I didn't hide it, but I'm a nerd. Even Richie Blackmore, John Lennon and Led Zep were fans.
I have been hearing this song for years but never really noticed the Spanish theme. I also send that the song has some dark undertones. This is why I love watching you react. You make me pay attention to songs I have listened to for ages.
