Once you know ABBA, you'll understand why they've been offered millions of dollars time and time again, to get back together. Their music is fun, good-feeling, timeless...and inspiring. I've been a metal head since around 1977 and I'm not afraid to say I love ABBA.
You've got nothing to be afraid of, cos you're in good company! "Mr. Macho" himself, Gene Simmons, & "The Man In Black", w/ the black top hat, Mr. Ritchie Blackmore, BOTH stated they LOVE ABBA.
This was the very first ABBA song that I ever heard. I went to my friends house and her dad had this song on his turn table. I was transfixed. I must have been like 8 or 9. I turn 49 tomorrow and this memory is so VERY clear.
I am swedish and the first song I head of them was Waterloo in Eurovision song contest in 1974 and after that I was hooked. As a kid I had my walls covered with posters of them and in 1978 I went to their live consert.
This song spent 14 weeks at #1 here in Oz (we Aussies were absolutely obsessed with Abba). Been having a ball watching you get totally hooked on them, and more than a bit sad you're putting Abba on pause for awhile - you haven't even scratched the surface when it comes to my favourite Abba songs, so I do hope you'll revisit them and add songs like - People Need Love, Does Your Mother Know, So Long, Arrival (a brilliant instrumental), Why Did it Have to Be Me, I've Been Waiting for You, etc, etc.
Yay I watched a ton of Abba last night and then I wake up this morning in there it is Fernando I love your reactions I love that you found Abba I am a total rock ‘n’ roll metalhead but listen you can’t help but love Abba
My wife and I are among the lucky people to see ABBA live at Wembley Arena in London and What's more we were there on the night when they recorded "I have a dream". They took just two takes to do it, something wasn't quite tight the first time, although the audience could never tell you what it was. It went on to be a huge number one here in the U.K. and all over the world. By the way they sounded just as good live on stage as they did on the studio albums.
Mark ch Is that the performance on the video with the children's choir? My mum saw Abba in real life on Mike Yarwood Christmas special in 1978 as she was in the studio audience though they were miming.
@@Raider577 Do you mean this one? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MU4IypJuBY4.html I can say for certain that both ABBA and the children in the choir weren't miming on the night. This was done on the second half of a two hour set, with several costume changes and towards the end the iconic illuminated ABBA sign. It was a fantastic evening and truly memorable because it was the first concert that I went to with the girl who went on to become my wife and still is.
Mark Ch How fantastic! Didn’t know that this song, one of my favourite ABBA songs, was recorded at a live concert event. So glad that you were both there. What a treat! Hope James has time to play this one soon. 👋🇦🇺
I have loved the ABBA-trip with you!🙏 I understand you must do other reactions too, but you know what James? Enjoy ABBA in your sparetime. Their music is so good and you have still so much to discover! Also, check out their live-footage here on YT. Enjoy, and much love!
I just love watching your reactions because you barely have to say anything you can just see it all over your face you are an open book that way I'm very happy you like Abba I still get goose bumps from this song and a few others. Stay safe stay strong and you rock thank you
When I was young my sister absolutely loved ABBA, she would play them all the time. I had no choice but to be converted into an ABBA fan, they were everywhere in Australia back then, hugely popular worldwide. We had this song on a 45 record and it would be played over and over. Takes me back.
Does your mother know is such a great song. I find it very sweet, particularly in this era of metoo and being aware of how many rock stars did take advantage of young fans. The song is saying “I’ll dance with you, chat with you, and flirt with you, but you’re a bit too young for anything else. You’re cute, but too young, and should probably go home to your mum”. It’s nice.
Frida, the darker haired lady first recorded this in Swedish for one of her solo albums. It was then re-recorded in English. It was also re-recorded in Spanish in 1980 when ABBA released an album of their songs in Spanish for the South American market.
The Day Before You Came, Eagle, The Way Old Friends Do, Summer Night City, I Have a Dream, Lay All Your Love on Me, Gimme! Gimme! Gimme!, One of Us, Voulez-Vous, I'm a Marionette, I Let the Music Speak, On and on and On,... the list is endless.
Don't stop, you've only scratched the surface :) It's been great fun, I hope you return to them soon. Make sure to react to Happy New Year at the end of December!
Fernando & Dancing Queen are probably the two most famous songs from ABBA - I hear them in movies/TV shows still Love your channel - so much great music out there - you won’t get it all, but enjoy the journey You liking ABBA is totally cool - Led Zepplin (Rock Gods) loved ABBA - so you are in excellent company
This song was number one on Countdown ( our weekly music show) for over 3 months!!! Every week for 12 weeks. Boy was I sick of it. It's been 40 years since I've listened to it and I could appreciate it again so thankyou❣✌
My love my life, Disillusion, I’ll be waiting for you, and Summer Night City all are underrated songs since they aren’t played on the radio 4 of my many favorite ABBA songs
This was actually a cover, in a way, of the song Fernando in Swedish. It was originally written by Stig Andersson (ABBAs manager), together with the guys in ABBA, Björn and Benny, for Annifrid Lyngstads solo career. She released it on her solo album called "Frida ensam" ("Frida alone") in 1975. And then a year later they made lyrics in English and made it into an ABBA song. They also recorded it in Spanish. The Swedish lyrics are different from the English and Spanish ones. In the Swedish ones, it´s about a guy named Fernando who has been dumped by his girlfriend, and is consoled by a friend, the singer, asking him to play some happy tunes and cheer for love, while the English one is about two old warriors remembering the war they were in together, when they were young.
James, by all means take a little Abba break. But not a long one. There is SO MUCH MORE. The Name Of The Game and Soldiers. Or if you feel like supercharged disco: Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! and Summer Night City. Or melancholic disco: If It Wasn't For The Nights (which should have been a single and a monster hit). Or very sinister disco: The Visitors. Or exquisitely arranged melodrama: My Love, My Life. Or the best Beach Boys pastiche ever: When I Kissed The Teacher. Or a minimalistic depiction of a day before everything changed: The Day Before You Came. Or...there's just lots.
This song is awesome, just like all their songs the meaning seems to reach into your soul. I love that you have found their music. I really look forward to all your reactions, please keep them coming!!!!
Fun fact; when ABBA fist did Fernando in sweedish, it was a song about a guy who lost his girlfriend, and thougt that the heartbreak he felt, only was him feeling that. And when they did this version, it ended up this Way :-) - love your reactions :-)
Frida did the Swedish version on her solo album Ensam (Alone) in 1976. But I'm sure they saw the international hit potential and released it as an ABBA single.
Jimmy; Oh, yes! I have tried to get reactions to the late great Freddie Fender, but to no avail. Those two songs you mention are my favorites, too. Please put them on your list, James.
I have Disco Extended version of the song which last 7:02 minutes and the mix is just sound amazing. Lay all your love on me is the best Dance song all time and it has been totally underrated. I still play this song while driving every now and then. If you play loud, it song even better and give you a mood of dancing.
Such a beautiful song... Powerful while mellow... They had a magic of changing the emotions within a single song, sad to upbeat... ABBA, video pioneers too, their history is so interesting and incredible!!! Videos sent to and played in Australia was what really took them to next level after 1974 Eurovision win, Waterloo!!! 😊💜👍
Great reaction as usual. They do Not make music like this. Then lyrics, then poetry, the vocal blends, the music of ABBA. I am glad you found them and you take rhe time to listen to the groups, artists, and Soundtracks of my Life. THANK YOU! !!
Some more great ABBA songs to react to: Does Your Mother Know S.O.S. I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do My Love, My Life Lay All Your Love On Me The Day Before You Came Angel Eyes If It Wasn't for the Nights Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)
No need to stop ABBA...hundreds of possibilities!!! "Summer Night City". "On and On and On,"."Man After Midnight" (Anna/ Agnetha, very strong long hold note several times)... "Ring, Ring"... almost endless variety!!!
These 2 girls can sing and harmonize. The 2 guys wrote all of their songs and the girls brought them to life. Which of their songs were the best? It's really hard to say. They had up beat songs like 'S.O.S.', 'Waterloo' and 'Does Your Mother Know'. Then the bittersweet songs like 'The Winner Takes it all' and 'Knowing Me Knowing You' and this song, 'Fernando'. Their biggest hit was 'Dancing Queen' and then there was 'Take a Chance on me', 'Chiquitita' and 'Money Money Money' among many others.
Magnificent song! I think from the point of view of two old soldiers, remembering their part in a lost war or battle, in which they still feel they were on the right side.❤️✌🏻❤️
As a swede born in 1972, I love your reactions to ABBA (and everything else you do)! Do not quit them cold turkey, try one of the songs that Benny sings 😀 “Rock Me” or “ Does Your Mother Know”
My fave of ABBA 👌 Love that you are experiencing these beautiful tunes. ABBA was popular during my pre-teen years. Love them then and still do. They were so under-rated.
I just discovered your channel today and absolutely love it so much that I just subscribed! You have reacted to golden songs from ABBA. On my Facebook page at New Year's I always link to ABBA's Happy New Year, in case you get back to reacting to some more ABBA! Thank you so much for bringing these legends to a new generation!
OK - You got me commenting again. I love their harmonies. Your comments about the Spanish influence and this song reminded me of a similar song - Spanish Harlem by the Mamas and the Papas. And, being that my favorite sounds are from groups with 4 part harmonies, this is a great example. Just listen to the original version and just soak up the soundstage of their heavenly voices!
The great thing about these videos is that as well as enjoying the reaction, it's fun hearing songs I haven't listened to for years. This guy has good taste.
"Fernando"is one of my favorite ABBA songs! Another one is "Winner Takes It all"!The many different styles of this amazing group certainly speaks to their versatility & unique talents! Love your reaction, as always! Thanks again!
JB love seeing your reactions to music of the past. Yes the music back then was so much more diverse. Your a class act, keep up the good work my friend.
Another great songs from Abba you should hear and react are "Sleeping through my fingers", "Our last summer" and "Crazy world". They are really beautiful, my heart beats faster when i hear these songs. Man, respect for the love and passion for great, old music.
I salute a fellow man who isn't afraid to feel the warmth and sweetness of this artistry. I used to take abuse from fellow jazz musicians who thought ABBA was for wimps. I feel sorry for them, that they think music always has to be hard-edged. One of my idols, Herbie Hancock, knew that it was okay to make music sometimes just for the sake of making a beautiful sound. I'm not above crying when I listen to something that gets to me, even if it's quite simple.
Fernando was the favorite sang of my sister Christine. And you are right about the spanish touch in this song. I like the way you talk about songs. I feel you are honest.
Man, I envy the hell out of you. You get to hear these great groups as an adult. I grew up with them, and I don't remember hearing them for the first time, because I have always known of their existence. Hell, ABBA was around till I was about 7 or 8 years old...
Thank you, thank you, thank you. Now you see why so many of us requested this lovely song. I bought the CD with this song on it years ago, just so I could listen to it whenever I wanted to.
Your reactions are priceless and adorable. You clearly have a wonderful appreciation of music and your videos are a joy to watch. Keep on doing what you're doing!
This was my one True favorite and I heard it México in SPANISH. It’s Simply Beautiful in Spanish... I’ll never forget it as I was only 13 years old. Your the Best and I subscribed to your Reaction Vlog! Great 👍🏽Job. 🙇🏻♀️🙏🏽🎤🔥🇺🇸
My favourite football (soccer) team is Rangers FC, from Glasgow, Scotland. We had a captain called Fernando Ricksen, who died aged 43 in September of ALS. This song was played at our stadium, with our 50,000 fans singing the chorus in his honour. It will always mean so much to our team and fans. Thank you for your reaction. 💙
Another Lasse Halmström Video. They got into trouble because of the fire 🔥 on a soundstage. The stars in the sky are studio lights. The song is about two old soldiers reminiscing... Thanks for the ABBA reactions! Loved it. Do more! Money money money, SOS, the visitors, the day before you came, lay all your love on me. I love these my man and you have to do them all 🤣🤣🤣
I have always loved ABBA. There is a trbute band called Bjorn Again who did a wonderful concert singing many ABBA songs. Well worth a look (Bjorn Again 1998 full concert on you tube )
It's great for us old folks to hear young people appreciate the music from our youth. The sad part is that songs that we, and now you and other reactors, are listening to form a volume of music that won't be added to. What there is out there from the likes of Elvis and company is all there is. There won't be any more coming so we appreciate what we have and enjoy introducing new audiences to several decades of great music.
Frida is such a soulful singer. Her voice is perfection. Everyone went apeshit over Agnetha but even as a child I appreciated Frida more. As an adult I still think she’s the better singer. She has more range and power, though I give Agnetha props for being able to bring pathos and emotion to a song almost better than anyone.
No need to rush Enjoy as long as you like Well done great channel and reactions , enjoy your astonishment from song to song It brings me back to the best years of my life , and seeing someone else enjoy and see the heartfelt work they did
This song was #1 in Australia for 15 weeks in the days when you had to physically go into a store and buy a vinyl record. ABBA were huge in Australia. Totally dominated our charts for months on end with song after song.
I envy you - you can only hear a song for the first time once: and you have SO many more Abba songs to hear for the first time! Keep listening and I guarantee you will be a fan for life
As long as you keep reacting to Abba or A-Teens , I will be here watching your reactions ...... One can tell you have no fake positive reactions (as many others) . You really like them from the heart!!! And I love you for it man!!!
ABBA will go down in history as one of the greatest musical groups on the 20th Century. Truly great music never dies, as Beethoven, Bach, Chopin, Lizst, Schubert and many other greats from centuries past can attest. We are so fortunate that we live in a time when we have this absolute wealth of incredible music to listen to. It's too bad the really great musicians of today aren't really able to find their audience. I know they must be out there, but they're not 'marketable' enough, I guess, and all we get is the sort of by-the-numbers formulaic stuff that is being cranked out by music companies. It really is a shame, but who has time to listen to it anyway? Not when there's all this cool old stuff to listen to. Has anyone ever recommended Linda Ronstadt to you before? If not, check out her rendition of "Blue Bayou" and/or "You're No Good".
Hi James! Thank you for reacting to my FAVOURITE Abba song!!! I've only recently found your channel and subscribed! I'm very pleased that I did! I think you are a very sweet caring young man and I really enjoy your channel! Could you possibly react to Children of the Revolution by Marc Bolan and TRex! Thank You! Greetings from Australia!
