Frida has many wonderful lead vocals displaying the warmth and softness in her voice: Super Trouper, Knowing Me Knowing You, I Have a Dream, One Man One Woman, and The Name of the Game (where she shares lead vocals with Agnetha, a song that really highlights the different qualities of their voices). However, I also love her irony and humour in Money Money Money, and her desperation and pain in When All Is Said and Done and - my ABBA favorite: The Visitors.
This is a very beautiful song, very romantic, but at the same time it has a nuance of sadness and melancholy, and how about the astonishing lead vocal, then the harmonies of the girls and finally the boys also joined in chorus, everything is simply magical. I can see you really enjoyed this song, maybe more than the others ☺
The ABBA experience is certainly eargasmic! I can’t even think of which ABBA song to do next. There’s so many of them! Anni Frid has a beautiful voice. Her’s mixed with Agnetha creates the glorious third voice.
I read once that their sound engineer told how he actually created the '3rd voice' by delaying one of the voices on the board for a split second to make a richer, fuller sound- considering that he had 2 of the most beautifully similar & blendable voices ever to work with, I think he created perfection!!
@@redcaddiedaddie oh my gosh...yes! Perfectly said!...im sure i heard that in one of their docos...absolutley brilliant how he managed to do that😊but yes that is how the 3rd voice was created!😊😊😊😊
Start of this song make me so emotional and have goosebomps!I was translate lirycs of this beautiful song to my husband who is a War veteran in our Country he was only 17 years old when War was start in my beautiful country during 1990'ies so I can relate with this beautiful song ❤
The 'Fernando' scene in 'Malcolm in the middle' was just soooo cute. One of my favorite scenes from the show.😄This kind of music nevers grows old and is evergreen as ever. I love this song! 💕
About a decade ago Grand rock persona and sound disigner BRIAN ENO had also admitted his secret love for Abba discribing the reason he couldn't bear to keep it a secret anymore. The reason was this song and FRIDA's performance on FERNANDO, he had really 'fell' for them as he said!.
Great analysis of a great song. This has one of the finest arrangements of any song in the history of pop music. I also think it is ABBA's "warmest," most emotionally compelling song. As you so aptly say, it is indeed a masterpiece.
so happy to see you again with ABBA songs "Fernando" (1976) is a soft ballad, so nice and beautiful The best is the beauty of their vocal harmonies, very soft at the whisper level but at a level of perfection, that explodes in a magic chorus I have compared it to "Chiquitita" (1979) because both songs have similarities and contrasts Both have the title in Spanish, and was recorded in spanish too (to the album in spanish "Gracias por la Música" In 1980) Both are pop ballads with an initial verse sung alone and from the second chorus in duet, with a very catchy and popular chorus (in my country Argentina are songs that we would sing in a circle of friends, because we all know their lyrics) The two videos show the contrast of fire and snow, night and day They were both very most worldwide successful, only behind "Dancing Queen" ABBA had already recorded "Dancing Queen" and it came from the success of "Mamma Mía" It was the manager who convinced them to record "Fernando" so as not to repeat the style (Frida had done it before in 1975 on her solo album in Swedish and it was a success, but with lyrics of a lovesong, and these to ABBA is a friendship story about mexican soldiers) The manager was right and everything was a success, one after another in that year 1976, with three singles #1 consecutives in UK Mamma Mía (2 weeks) Fernando (4 weeks) Dancing Queen (6 weeks) In addition, this variety of options had different results in each country. "Fernando" was a colossal success in Australia (14 weeks at #1 surpassed the "Hey Jude" mark) and 7 weeks at #1 in Germany "Dancing Queen" was 14 weeks #1 in Sweden and 6 weeks #1 in the U.K.and 8 weeks #1 in Australia Both were #1 in the U.S. but in various rankings: "Dancing Queen" on the Billboard and "Fernando" on Adult Contemporary The official video of "Fernando" was filmed in February 1976, with Dancing Queen the next day in these Official Video you could see: Bjorn & Benny, both in guitars Frida & Agnetha confronted both in frontal and profile images (repeating "Mamma Mia" technique used) premiering her gypsy style dress and a last comparation "Fernando" (1976) is first ABBA single with Frida in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released before ABBA) as "S.O.S." (1975) is first ABBA single with Agnetha in lead voice, and recorded in her solo album in Swedish (released after ABBA) For a next reaction, my suggestion is "Chiquitita" (1979), another banger and worldwide hit to ABBA and first song released by ABBA in spanish too, biggest ABBA worldwide hit in Latin America Thanks so much for these video and reaction I wish you a great weekend See you in the next My best regards from Buenos Aires Argentina 🇦🇷 South America
Every single time on every single ABBA reaction video you're here posting your long-winded and totally unnecessary dissertations - When and if anyone wants formal and detailed information about ABBA, they can visit their official website, they do not need continual opinion pieces from you.
One of my favorite songs and videos by ABBA. Frida did "I Know There's Something Going On" (an 80's essential) and it was produced by Phil Collins, he also plays drums. Frida is so versatile with her voice.
If you loved "Fernando", you'll definitely love "Chiquitita" aswell. Similar sound, but also very different if that makes sense lol. It has some of the best piano work (by Benny) ever! Also, funny enough, features a spanish guitar-esque intro..
Thank you for your nice reaction to this and your loving words on Abba. And congatulations to the band for the 4 Grammy nominations 15 th Nov.22.One of them being their comeback single off the VOYAGE album,'Don't shut me down'.
@@Lisa-M As far as i know last year's nominations had a deadline till October for submission.VOYAGE ( and also Adele's album) were released in November.DSMD is also considered as part of the album. So that's why.
@@christianoazzuro6711 Third try to say thanks after the first two comments have been deleted... What's wrong with RU-vid when "thanks" is a forbidden word?
This is such a classic! Chiquitita is another classic. They have so many. Hopefully you will react to Happy new year towards the end of the year. It's an AMAZING song!!!! ❤️Ps, yes, it's a flute in the beginning
That single was also No1 in Australia for 14 weeks(!)e ven beating 'Hey Jude' by the Beatles.ABBA held that record for decades till Ed Sheeran beat them with the largely streamed 'Shape of you'.And right after that they droped their next bomb.'Dancing Queen(.And the musicverse went crazy on them again).
You can't really compare charts of yesteryear with streaming charts. They use totally different methods to correlate their positions. Imagine today's kids paying something like $10+ in today's money for just one single like in the past. They pay next to nothing for a song in a subscription now . Make 'em pay $10 for one song today like we did in the past? Artists today would sell next to nothing.
@@The_Jupiter2_Mission Oh no doubt about it!I'm totally with you.I read that there's some streaming platform that only the 30 first seconds of a streamed song counts as a 'sale' even if the listener doesn't continue listening.Record sales in the 'analogue' era were solid choicesDifferent value. We were getting out of our houses' traveling' to the record shops to buy an album or a single we usually had 'aimed' after a conscious decision also 'willingly' paying some good money.
Omg I love Abba- takes me back to teen years when everything was happy, had a “love of my life” waves lightly whisking the white summer sand. No cares, only a happy heart.
Love the way you're loving Abba. It's nearly impossible to hear this song and not sing along with that chorus. Just another Abba chorus that so cleverly hooks you right in. Agnetha had said that this was one her favorite song because the way it always had the audience singing along with the most. Songs I know you will like: Eagle (from the Album). Lay all Your Love on Me (from Super Trouper--get ready to boogie). The Visitors (from, yes, The Visitor). Just to name a few. Love your enthusiasm Luke.
@@alexioverdo5225 yes, that's where. Ty Alexio. Offhand I couldn't remember the name of the show. It was a bit awkward watching that episode as they all looked so uncomfortable with each other. A clear indication it was the end. Then I was so happy when Frida came out with Somethings going on. The single was a big hit in America. Then Agnetha came out with Wrap Your Arms Around me. Loved I Can't Shake Loose. Then One Night in Bangkok, from Chess. Then we get Mamma Mia, the musical; then the movie. Then we finally get Voyage. We'll, we all know the history. It's just such great memories to reminisce about them. So really, they never really went away, they just evolved.
@@craignotgreg547Well Imo, Abba's revival was cultured gradually since the late '80s and got built up steadily upon their past solid foundations. The love of their fans was like a volcano.Seemingly sleeping but boiling with lava-love in the inside, giving impactful explosions from time to time and never running out of its energy. Our loving bond with this group is tight, deep and tearful.
@@craignotgreg547 I think that Agnetha's answer (and Benny's) must be seen in context ABBA promoted their album "The singles" and they said four different songs with that objective Frida and Björn's answers were obvious, that's why Agnetha perhaps says "my choice is Fernando" when we know that her favorite is "The winner takes it all" (she thus avoids repetition and public coincidence with Her ex-husband). and Benny we know that he has praised "Knowing me knowing you" a lot finally there are three of the four best-selling songs of ABBA (the fourth is Waterloo, in the place of The winner takes it all)
There is also a strong connection to classical music as well as historical melodies from Greece and Spain. ABBA incorporated all this to create a lush, almost baroque musical style. Then there are the incredible voices of the ladies and the opulent harmonies as well. I love, love, love ABBA.❤❤❤❤❤❤
Next time try their disco-rock bomb Gimme!Gimme!Gimme! the one that got sampled by Madonna and becamer one of her greatest hits ever. Her only single that went No1 in 41 countries..
As they did with "Chiquitita", ABBA made a Spanish version of "Fernando" too... In fact, in 1980 they made a complete album in Spanish that also includes "Mamma Mía", "Dame Dame Dame" (Gimme Gimme Gimme a man after midnight), "Hasta Mañana", "Gracias por la música" (Thank you for the Music), "Conociendome Conociendote" (Knowing me Knowing you), "La reina del baile" (Dancing Queen), "Estoy soñando" (I have a dream) ... Which was a great success in latin america
Loving the ABBA reactions! Would like to hear your reaction to My Love, My Life. I think it's one of ABBA's most underrated songs. Features Agnetha's beautiful voice and her unique ability to capture the emotions of the lyric. Thanks for your recenty ABBA love!
You should listen to the title track off Arrival. It’s an instrumental but it’s so epic. The rock band “the darkness” use it as their pre-concert, walk-on track.
Abba had the little trick of the two girls singing at 90 degree angles as a change from the two of them facing out into the camera. It became kind of a trademark for them. I've seen other viewers call the result "an abba shot". They were good enough to have a camera technique named after them so maybe its true.
So glad you love ABBA you have so much more to discover from them, please react next to their tracks Soldiers and I Let The Music Speak from their album The Visitors
I don't know if " Fernando" is the catchiest melody writers in history ... try to listen "Chiquitita" and then we see... also , in other way, the most catchiest chorus is "Waterloo"
You can see them corpsing/ getting the giggles and then controlling themselves during a performance of this one! 😄 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Gobq2JHO6f4.html
Well in the original Aussie(and maybeN.Zealand) vinyl release of ARRIVAL it was in there, right between 'Why did it have and 'Tiger' but not in the rest of the world until it was included in the newer Cd releases as a bonus track.
@@toddlandry5736 Yeah, well that original 1976 ARRIVAL version is a real rarity for the rest of the world but now a precious collector's item for fans Down there, where that album had sold phenomenal amounts in hundreds thousand copies like hot cakes.
About USA .ABBA DIDNT TOUR SO MUCH AND THE RECORD COMPANY IN USA COULDNT DELIEVER AS MANY RECORDS THAT WAS NEEDED. AND AGNETHA IS VERY VERY VERY AFRAID OF FLYING.AT THE SAME TIME THEY WERE SO BIG IN OTHER PART OF THE WORLD SO THAT TOKE A LOT OF TIME. BUT THE CLEVER PEOPLE IN USA UNDERSTAND HOW WONDERFUL THEY REALLY REALLY REALLY ARE 🐈⬛🐈🫂☃️💓
I’m sure he is (you are a nice person and everything but why do we give credit to all these reaction-ists, who have never heard classics as big as this? Doesn’t it put to question their music knowledge and education..
You are so close to seeming actually sincere. You have a sincere face. You’re falling a tiny bit short, which is a shame, because I think you’re present.
