Treat schools like a bank. Make it difficult to get beyond the lobby with lock down/ emergency buttons at every front office desk. It's time to establish school safety requirements and provide funding for that purpose.
Defend the police and give the money to the schools. The police are never there when you need them anyway. Let the schools use that money for extra security measures.
That's what I did not understand.. Every elementary school locks all doors and the you can only be buzzed into the front them you immediately have to be buzzed into the office before entering the actual school.. I don't understand how he even entered the school.. Someone else needs to be held accountable for his entry u less Texas has no security of the sort.. (I'm in Tennessee and it's hard to even check a kid out of school because of security measures)
Every school I have worked in is like this. Something is fishy. He could not have just walked in to the school. There is no entrance to the building except to the front office where you have to show ID and check in. The office doors that lead to the school is electronically locked.

We have to do something about this. I'm a student, my niece is in kindergarten. This is my worst fear, for my school and everyone else. 15 families broken, 14 babies taken from us and a teacher to our youth. We can't live in fear anymore. There has to be change in legislation, ways to find the signs and address them sooner. Mental health in America is overlooked. Ive (thank god) never been a victim of gun violence. But I am a student and I know how scared my fellow high schoolers and middle schoolers are terrified, and I mean scared to death, of this happening. And the fact that this fear is valid is sickening.

As much as I hated Covid I was honestly also relieved that my kid was online and not going to school. He still is doing online school I was considering sending him back next school year but nope not anymore. Since they offered one more year of online school I will gladly take it and for the time when I have to send him to school I am seriously considering home schooling. Also home schooling will be the way for my 3 years old. I am done with this. I don’t need my kids dead in the name of education

All of the primary schools in our state had locking vestibules installed last year. You cannot walk directly into any elementary school without clearing 2 doors. How did he get in that school?

I originally pulled my youngest out during the pandemic but his father, whom I have separated from, threatened to take me to court if I didn't put him back in school. Aside from the fact our son was reading at a 3rd grade level in the 5th grade, he just struggled with the large class size and now I am genuinely scared for his life at any school now.

I don't have children yet, but worked with them for 13 years. 2013 was the last year I worked with them. I left due to lack of security and the increasing dangers aimed at children and the adults who worked with them. I started telling people at the time that I never wanted to send them to a public or a private school because it was dangerous. I know people called me paranoid and stated that I was overreacting, but this is getting completely out of control. Now modern society has the youth doing active shooter drills, barricading themselves in bullet proof shelters, violence prevention commercials, etc. Each year becomes more diabolical.

Gosh, i been through 3 related gun incidents since elementary school and you’re right. Each year gets worse and worse. I’m not gonna say that I’m lucky to be alive, bc only one of those events was very dangerous. But still, I was so scared that I was gonna died in high school because of a shooting. As an elementary school teacher and mother of a 5 yr old in kindergarten I can't begin to express my sadness and horror. This is absolutely devastating. My prayers go to the children, teacher who lost their lives and also to their families.

When I came home from work today, after seeing what happened on the news about the school and the shooting I was so sad, but standing at the door waiting for me was my granddaughter she was so excited because her new school folder and lunch box came today, and she got her last vaccination so she could go to school. She’s going to be in kindergarten. It took everything in my soul to keep from crying when I saw her.Little did she know that grandma was so sad because I cannot imagine what it would be like if I sent her to school and she did not come home. My heart and my prayers are with these people and their families, I cannot tell you how sorry I am to hear about the loss of your children.

What about heavily screened armed security, and I don’t mean officers in swat gear or anything, just the usual pistol that law enforcement usually carry to make sure no potential shooter thinks they can just waltz in, visually for the students it probably wouldn’t change much since security usually wear the same uniform police do anyway.
Most of our NYC public elementary, middle, and high schools including Magnet schools have security right at the school entrance. You have to be confirmed to visit and they watch you. You have to be escorted to either the principal office in elementary schools or other rooms based in the reason of your visit for higher grade schools. Yes, NYC schools look like jails with fences, but for good reason...

If people in the US can keep buying guns like candy, sadly this will keep happening. Where I’m from you have to be at least 21 yrs old, have certification that you have completed firearms training and safety course, and have passed a psych evaluation and background check before you can get a Possession license. Only when you have all these can you buy a gun.

Hello, I'm French and I just saw this new drama hitting Texas. Of course, I am very sad for the victims and their families and I offer them all my sincere condolences. But I ask myself a question, how is it possible that an armed individual can enter a school without being neutralized by the security service? Considering the large number of shootings in Texas, it's odd that a school isn't better protected. I am wholehartedly with you. Strength and courage to you all.🙏

Pasa que los partidos políticos solo les importan estar en el poder y no se ponen de acuerdo para aprobar leyes necesarias. Pasa que todos somos jueces y no tomamos en cuenta lo mal que está nuestra sociedad en el mundo entero. Pasa que es más fácil ver la pana en el ojo ajeno que la viga en el nuestro.

My heart hurts and aches for the parents. Parents who lose a child die with their child! It is the most painful experience one can go through in this horrible horrible world. They send their beloved kids to school not knowing if they will return! Why is nothing being done about this in America?
@Bill There have been 68+ white mass shooters in the U.S versus 10+ Hispanic mass shooters. Would you blame the U.S for those white shooters? Perhaps you should blame the U.S more than Mexico because nobody in the U.S is following and abiding by Mexican law in the states. I’m so heartbroken to hear this how can he do this those are kids who have a future a family now the kids can’t go home and enjoy their childhood because people decide to do something so reckless and stupid I’m literally crying if that was my siblings school I’d be so worried praying for their safety.. Prayers for the parents and loved ones I know those who lost their lives will always be remembered 🙏🏼
