@euro42 Cheers, that makes sense-once coming home from France, a helicopter hovered above the ferry we were on, just a ''dry run'' for a rescue situation- luckily no one injured/ill. Thanks so much for info.
@Oakleaf700 This is the winch zone for the helicopter. If you have personnel of equipment that is delivered or retrieved with a helicopter the pilot in the chopper will use this circle as his target for his winch wire.
No the axe refers to the reverse rake shape of the bow. Watch a video of two Norwegian ships, one with and one w/o the axe. The axe bow is much faster and runs the seas better than the traditional bow. Type axe bow in the search bar.
For you all thinking this is some ordinary Tug/work Boat, Your Wrong! This is one if not the most Powerful Tug Boats in the world! This boat is owned by the French military & operated by the Coast Guard for Emergency Rescue services Betwen France & UK Coastal Line For all Maritime EMERGENCIES! Most Beautiful, Powerful & Hell Of TUG!!!
You're most welcome carper. :) One other thing carper look at the extreme pitching the red ship is doing vs. the almost flat running of the X bow. I would not want to be working aboard that red hull ship or this Abeille Bourbon. I don't get seasick but it's got to be very difficult to work on these ships.
@Murphyjah This boat is not owned by the French army, you're wrong, this boat is for the private company Abeille International Group Bourbon. It is chartered by the French state and is available to the Maritime Prefect of Brest at any time, to rescue people and especially for towing large boat in difficulties, generally in the storm.
My bad not axe but the Ulstein X Bow design. Type that into the search bar you'll see the red hull ship which has the conventional bow with bulb and the blue ship coming up fast behind it. Look at the spray the red ship throws off its bow and the almost total lack of spray from the X bow ship. Clearly shows the X is the better bow design.
Can anyone tell me please, what the yellow circle is on the front of the deck is? I have seen these before on channel ferries, why yellow, and why a circle? Thanks :)
