I am a hospice chaplain and I share this hymn with patients at the end of life more than any other song or writing. Perfect for any and every occasion! Beautiful job Hayley.

That's my girl... THAT's how you sing a religious hymn/anthem: the way it was intended by it's author/composer, not with crazy vocal runs which trivializes it and brings it down to the level of an ordinary pop song...

I used to sing this song in the Catholic Chuch they used to call me out of class when I was in Santa Maria Convent to sing in the church when someone passed away. I remember it like yesterday.💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Wow, this is truly amazing to hear an entire stadium singing praise to our Lord. It gave me goosebumps. I only read about this recently. What an awesome tradition and such a beautiful hymn. A cracking good song that brings tears to my eyes for it's beauty. I heard a Dutch Choir sing this in Arnhem, Holland at the 60th anniversary of Operation Market Garden in 2004 and it was truly, truly beautiful and emotional to hear it and listen and see WW2 Vets in floods of tears.

It is amazing to me that this song approved--I personally love it. It would never fly in the US--although more "churched" than the UK, this would be crushed by the ACLU. Even if you think religion in its traditional form is archaic, there is something appealing about a message which says, "I can't always solve my own problems. If there is a power out there to help and protect me, please, be there." BTW, this hymn was written by a Scottish Anglican stricken with TB. He died 3 weeks later.

Having been to the challenge cup final on many occasions and there that day as my home town of warrington being there it was a beautyful a moment as it sounds on here. Though I do miss the whole community singing before hand. Having played as a schoolboy in 87, it is a day you must experience and with Abide with me sang so beautyful that great roar at its end that could wake the dead and the teams entering the field, then of course there is 80 mins of rugby to come :)
