the part were the blonde asks her if she's gonna turn into a vampire while she's in the cage and she reply I don't know ......maybe 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..that made me spit out my soda and crack up
Looks like he could’ve been a better choice to play Mr. Fantastic than Pedro Pascal who looks nothing like Reed Richards. All Jeremy needs is the grey strands & he can pull it off
I just went with my sister who did not know about the movie being a vampire movie and she said she absolutely loved the WTF moment where Abigail turns into a vampire. Total props to the directors for pulling off the reveal.
I avoided all marketing but unfortunately before watching I opened the review in order to jump to his "GRADE". guess what he literally opens with "THE GIRL IS A VAMPIRE!!!" and I was like geez dude, this is spoiler free right? atleast say it in the middle or with a spoiler alert.
Agreed. When I first watched From Dusk till Dawn, I had no idea what I was in for and I can't imagine that movie having had the same effect on me if I'd known.
Major props right out of the gate for not being a sequel, prequel, threequel, reboot or multiverse version of an existing IP. Having well written characters in a bonkers plot is just a bonus. Going on my Halloween list for 2024 👹
Many horror movies in recent times (outside of the Scream franchise) were fresh properties. Better yet, many of those were garnering positive feedback.
Wait til you find out it's a remake of a 1936 movie 😂. Nothing can be its own thing. That was me being happy Fall Guy was solid and it was an 80s tv show
@@LTJfan There's a movie about a group of people kidnapping a demon-kid (like Damien from Omen), and he killed them one by one via mind-control, hallucination, etc. This movie kinda reminds me of that movie. The title of that movie is Whisper, if you wanna check it out.
@@Artofcarissa honestly, i didn't think it was going to be great and just a fun time. But I loved it, and would buy it to watch every Halloween. I wouldn't buy civil war
@@michaelmentality I feel like only yt people would find this movie good. I learned about nothing. The movie was made for a box of rocks. Good actors but they didn’t put any real effort into this movie. It wasn’t scary, wasn’t funny, or anything. I felt empty when I left. Nothing but evil yt things that’s overplayed lol. A vampire ballerina 🙄
@@Schrodingers_Kat Except it wasn’t, and you’re the first person I’ve heard suggest otherwise. A lot of people need to learn the difference between “shit” and just not liking something.
Favorite "fun" Vampire movie has to be *From Dusk Til Dawn!* I definitely want to check this out because Melissa Barrera is a hottie and I need a good Vampire flick in my life
Near Dark is amazing!! Satisfying ending too. Randomly rewatched it for the first time in 20 years because I forgot almost all of it. Bill Paxton is a real rascal.
I remember seeing that movie for the first time on TV years ago. I’d never heard of it before and so had absolutely no idea about the vampire twist that happens. I…was actually more annoyed about it than anything, as I was quite invested in the story that was taking place up to that point, and that story got basically completely jettisoned from the movie from that point forward.
This month is a great month: - The First Omen - Civil War - Monkey Man - Late Night With The Devil - Arcadian - Abigail - Fallout (TV Series) - The Ministry Of Ungentlemanly Warfare - Challengers Can't wait for May :) - The Fall Guy - IF - Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes - Furioza: A Mad Max Saga - The Strangers: Chapter 1 - Tarot (lol)
There’s another movie like this. About a rich woman who is kidnapped by a group of criminals because her rich family wants her to return home to them. Turns out she’s a vampire and they’re locked in with her and she starts killing them. Can’t remember the name of the movie, but I think it was foreign.
I was at Overlook Film Festival for the world premiere of this, with Team Radio Silence in attendance. All I’ll say is: see this movie with a crowd if you can. This movie is an absolute blast, and if you have a crowd to enjoy this movie with you, you’ll have the time of your life.
Crowds make my movie experience worse, not better. I like the darkness and big screen, not the noise and lit up cell phones/watches audiences bring to the table.
@@SumDumGy Pretty sure what they meant was that the entertainment value of seeing and hearing the crowd reactions to jump scares and other scenes would outweigh the negatives for this film. I also prefer seeing movies with a mostly empty theater but there are moments where the reactions can be a net positive...though I also will say that this isn't my kind of film.
@@SumDumGy I have but it's definitely the minority. Location may also play a big role. Moviegoers in some places may be far more obnoxious than others.
Near Dark baby. I interviewed Dan Stevens for this and he was a hoot. I also made a point of telling him we need The Guest 2. That soundtrack is not enough.
Jeremy you have genuinely shocked me with your positivity about the first omen and now Abigail I was fully expecting both films to flop but 2024 is stepping up the game
I'm glad this turned out to be a great flick! My favorite fun vampire movies are Fright Night, Lost Boys, From Dusk Till Dawn, What We Do in the Shadows, Vampire Hunter D, and Bram Stoker's Dracula (for the costumes and melodrama)!
Based on this review...I'm in. I'm going. Jeremy, you're review for Evil Dead Rising sold me...we went, we loved it. You're awesome! Can't wait to see Abigail!
Just got out of the theater! I really liked it. Ready or Not is one of my favorites so I had high expectations and they were definitely fufilled. Alisha Weir is incredible. The stunts, gore, soundtrack, acting and writing was awesome! I saw it with friends and I highly recommend you do as well, it is a roaring good time. It is so MUCH FUN.
Thank you, Jeremy. A friend of mine wants to see this for her birthday, but I was worried it would've been a waste of time and money due to current Hollywood being current Hollywood. But your review has put me at ease, and makes me look forward to seeing it.
Favorite vampire movie that’s a tough one I was going to say from dusk till dawn or lost boys but there’s also Buffy the vampire slayer and fright night original or remake they’re both really good honestly any of those 5 are great choices
Watched the first minute of the review, and stopped. Not bc it was bad, but bc it convinced me. I need to see this film, and learning more about it could only reduce my enjoyment. So thanks for the review, and I'll be back to watch the rest of it after I've seen the film!
30 days of night. My husband and i for some reason love this movie. I think a remake with a cruise ship arriving at for the aureus borealis 20 years later would be amazing!
I saw the trailer for this movie on twitch and rolled my eyes - several times. Based on your review, I think I'm gonna have to go see it next time I'm off from work. I'm intrigued now.
I'm only aware of this movie because I got the trailer as an ad on RU-vid here a while back. Honestly I'm glad to see it isn't just a total mess so often these type of movies just don't land so to hear that it did and then some is great.
They have to give away the kid vampire surprise because honestly, this is the pull. If you hid that aspect, then fewer people would be interested, and you'd have to rely on word of mouth 😅 Honestly, I think the idea is fresh, especially for a vampire movie.. like there's a kid vampire in interview with a vampire but they're more side character.. so interesting to see it explored more.
Definitely should have kept it out of the trailers because i had so much fun watching it, probably because i never saw the trailer or knew the plot. Also it was just good, good actors, characters, dialogue etc. Little girl killed it too.
Just as a concept, I understand the logic of the plot. Most vampires have someone that handles the day-to-day activities and sometimes even have to find victims for blood. Hiring criminals to kidnap a vampire that looks like a young girl, then trapping the criminals in a house is almost too perfect. Not only are people that have probably done some bad stuff being killed off, but as criminals it would be hard to tell they were even missing if they use fake names or identities for their jobs. People would start to notice if High School QB, Neighborhood Mom, and Class President all started vanishing from the same small town around the same time Mr. Mystery and his daughter rolled into town.
Every year I watch Fright Night 2011 Colin Farrell was great as Jerry, Antoine Yelchin RIP gives my favourite performance of his career, the vamp lore is here and I’ll never stop laughing when I see vamp mclovin
I have just never been a fan of vampire movies. Never have, never will be. It was foisted on me for movie night, and I actually enjoyed it. The little girl went from victim to terrifying murder bear at the drop of a hat, and she carried it off beautifully. my better half loves horror movies, and I can completely see this as a staple in her October rotation, and I'll be damned if I don't watch this one again. Thank you for the review, my wife is subbed to your channel, and she bought this on your recommendation, and it was worth it.
Just saw it. Very good time. The ending from the control room onward I didn't love, but up to that point it was in the low to mid 90s (rating). Fell off a hair by the end but still highly recommend. I can only imagine what it would have been like watching and not knowing the reveal, but then again, I probably wouldn't have been watching. The other twist was a slow reveal that I thought worked well. That is why Barbarian was one of the greatest movie watching experiences (first act absolutely perfect). If anything had been shown in the trailer it would have ruined that tension and effectiveness. Excellent review JJ. Thanks
Exactly what I told my fiance, I loved it until it got to that scene and it just got too ridiculous after that. Still loved the movie and would watch it again .
I don't know why Abigail suddenly became a protagonist at the end, she literally killed everyone else in that house including peter and sammy and the movie tries to make me sympathize with her?? Even though Frank had a whole 180 for some reason 乁( •_• )ㄏ, I ended up actually rooting for Frank so he could kill Abigail
There should be a regulation that every single trailer company that makes a trailer for a horror movie MUST watch the Barbarian trailer and make their own trailers in the same spirit. Having watched Abigail, it's extremely easy to see a solid trailer for this film done without disclosing that it's a vampire movie
As soon as I seen Kevin Durand I knew he was gonna be my favorite character! Not taking away from anyone in the film cause everyone did great but he was my favorite forsure!
Lost Boys, Dracula 1992, Dusk Till Dawn, John Carpenter's Vampires, Interview with a Vampire, The Batman vs Dracula, Underworld 1 and 3, and Blade 1 and 2 are my favorite vampire movies.
When I saw the run time I was iffy but had a fun time from start to finish...not a dull moment at all! RIP Angus Cloud, didn't even know he was gonna be in it.
I just saw this movie without seeing any trailers, only a poster, and I thought it was gonna be some sort of Black Swan Jr. but oh my god this movie was such a cool experience with naked eyes. The only reason I suspected something was up with Abigail was due to her being the title character, but vampires was the last thing on my list when I walked into that theater. Great review Jeremy!
Thanks so much for the review! I’ve developed a stigma against movies being heavily advertised over and over (via social media) as often they’re banking on as many people seeing it before realizing it’s shit, so I was worried Abigail was more of the same. But nope - next date night movie found!
I don't think I've almost immediately rewatched (within a week) a film in like a decade, but I did with _Abigail_ . If anything, I enjoyed it more the second time as I got to focus on Melissa Barrera's impeccable diction and vocal clarity in her line delivery the second time.
Chris Stuckmann was saying in his review he was mad they spoiled the reveal in the trailer. And I was wondering about that too as I saw the 1000th trailer for it and in his review like yours he mentions that they do a GREAT job hiding she's a vampire in the movie... thing is... I wouldn't have went to see this if I didn't know she was a vampire ballerina... so I'm SO TORN about the ads cause on one hand... it would have been a GREAT surprise... on the other... I would NOT have watched this movie w/o that fore knowledge lol.
This was shot in the south side of Dublin, I'm from the north side of Dublin, so it was nice seeing familiar places, absolute gem of a movie, and R.I.P Angus Cloud, his career was just getting started, he was going places, such a tragic end to his life, he deserved better.
I shouldn’t have watched the trailers as it gave away lot. Still enjoyed it tho, enjoyed the climax. Glad Joey ended up being a final girl. I loved how even after finding out Abigail’s true identity, she kept her Pinky promise. Which is what saved Joey’s life in the end. Love the bind she formed with Abigail. The end fight was Brutal. I was like “man they need to a vampire slayer there to help them”!😂 I want to see more …maybe a sequel or a series.
Thinking about checking this out now. Been on something of a horror kick lately with movies like Sting and Late Night With The Devil. Also looking forward to In A Violent Nature when it hits theaters.
Oh my God. This movie, in a few words blew me away. It was SO fun, what's really ironic is my favorite movie before this was Evil Dead Rise, now I have a new one, no spoilers it's just that good. A must-see. Don't walk, RUN.
A tale as old as time. I picked up From Dusk Till Dawn in my local Vid shop (Bob Busters) way back when, and the owner shouted at me. "Put that down!!". I turned, smiled and complied. He then asked, "Do you know anything about the film? Did you read any of the box?". Honest answer to both was "no". He then said that I should rent the film and, if I didn't appreciate it, he'd refund me. Whether I did or didn't appreciate the film didn't matter (even though I did), the fact he made sure I went in blind was worth the rental fee. With that in mind, going in to Abigail not knowing that particular piece of information would have been great. A trailer could have been cut around the reveal, I feel.
i give this movie a 9/10, it was amazing. i thought it was gonna be fun but it ended up being way better than I thought. little girl that plays Abigail deserves an Oscar for sure 100%
Ah yes the ol' plot twist mid film where its revealed there's Vampire(s) involved that you didn't see coming. Surprised me the first time with Dusk To Dawn and got me again with Midnight Mass. Unfortunately for Abigail, you spend half the film knowing what the characters don't, just tapping your toes waiting for it to happen. This was laziness on the part of the marketing team, Dusk to Dawn was also billed as just a kidnap caper btw. There was enough scary bloody scenes in Abigail and with the right fast editing in the previews could have filled a theater without resorting to giving away that the girl is a vampire.
If the trailer hadn’t given away the reveal, this would’ve been an all time classic. There’s a way they could’ve marketed it without giving that away. I think so at least
I feel like horror is the new place for comedy in moves. I would kill for a sequel to tucker and dale vs evil that was the funniest movie I’ve seen in recent years
Just saw this and saw no trailers beforehand. This was one of the better movies I’ve ever seen and had no idea the girl was a vampire. Really enjoyed it
