Able Bassmaker Smart Octave Pedal Demo | Boss OC-5 Alternative. So you thought that the range control in polyphonic mode on the Boss OC-3 (2006 ahem!) & OC-5 Octaver playing the lowest note in a chord an octave or two below was innovative? But what if I told you that John Rogers from Pwllheli (Gwynedd), in Wales, UK was making intelligent octave pedals in the 1980s and possibly before that?! This video demonstrates the Able Bassmaker and considers the pitfalls and merits of the brilliant design that enabled solo guitarists to self-accompany as if a bass-player was there in the room.
Pedal spec: 9-volt power pin-negative, 1 x 1/4" mono jack input, 2 x 1/4" mono jack outputs (1 x blended wet-dry, or when both outputs are in use 1 x octave wet only plus 1 x dry only), mix pot, gain pot, effect on-off soft-switch, octave -1 and -2 select soft-switch. Plastic enclosure. Made In Wales, U.K.
With Dale Harris, guitar.
The guitar used in the video is a Godin Multiac Duet Grand Concert Nylon with RMC pickups. Cables by Mogami and Klotz. Power supply by The Gigrig.
