select the midi track (drum track you wanna work on) and on the bottom it should pop up. if it doesnt appear on the bottom of your screen press shift tab and it should change from the device appearance to the midi note editor. this is called the clip overview. =] just realized this is three months old. well, glad to be of service. =P

Ableton does come with an instrument rack where you can choose anything from guitars to strings or synths sounds, etc. You can play and record the notes with a MIDI controller, with the computer keyboard, or simply draw out the notes in the program.

@villmister Hi. Click onto the the midi clip that you have created for the drum beat . This will then show the 'clip view' for you to be able to program the beat. If unsure refer to the manual. Clicking on any clip whether an audio clip or midi clip will then reveal whats contained inside the clip.

@matrixate Well using Ableton recently changed my perspective on programs in general, it's the best of the best, reason is just for sampling and mixing things better, you're right, but it doesn't hurt to make use out of them both though.

@DisforDubby If you're using a Drum Rack double click on whatever one-shot you want to add an effect on. This should pop up a Sampler (might be some other instrument) right next to the rack, drop your effects at the edge of the sample's instrument. Make sure it's not at the end, after the Drum Rack though.

i could be saying the same thing about lfos as the last guy... you can have the envelope in song view, or the clip can have an lfo automation you draw in, and also, if you are recording knob movements they should stay and then become editable/quantize them.... hope any of that helps
@Speakersoxx

@abazabaaaaaaaaaaaaaa Just drag a drum rack from your instruments folder into a midi channel and then drag your samples onto the pads in the drumrack. Dubbleclick the pads gives you the sound shaping options. A good way to get started with ableton is to look for Sonic Academy tutorials. Good luck.

@soopa123 I'm not sure if you're trolling the dubspot videos or not, but when you create a midi clip in the session view, double click on it to get to the piano roll. Please look at the tutorials that come with Ableton, they will help you alot more than fishing for comments.

@Fever655 so, like build up say 4 beats before the drop, and have it going every quarter beat for two measures, then eights for one measure, then sixthteens for the last measure. but just play around with it

Yep if you just buy live 8 you just get some instrument, like simpler and impulse drum instrument, and you don't get corpus effect. But if you buy the suite version you get all instruments and corpus effect.

Just drag in a Drum Rack from Live's Device Browser. Then as woot337 mentioned - just drag in a bunch of samples from Live's File browser to the drum rack's pads. The samples will populate the Drum Rack Enjoy, Michael

Try some pingpong on the snare to give it that old dub reggae sound, then you can start digging out all those extra beats that you don't need, creating space but adding depth at the same time. Good tutorial although I'm fairly sure that all dubstep is in or around the 130bpm mark though.

is it bad that I use Impulse for my drums? one restriction I feel I'm running into is not being able to put massive amounts of reverb on my snares alone... would you happen to know a work around for that? I have instead stretched them to taste which adds a reverby effect... sounds good
@JRDShamrock
@JRDShamrock 13 лет назад
@Alu142 Well yeah, I'm not an expert heck I started into Music Production about a month ago, I use Reason and to be honest I prefer reason over Ableton instead, I own it as well but I have no clue what makes it the best choice I mean the less you have to do to get something like a simple beat the better right?

@ZACHV1NES i dont really see why ableton wouldnt include those things unless its some odd demo mode or something, but even if its demo, unless youre drastically modding the sounds you wont be ablet to do much with those two kicks. have you gotten everything figured out yet?

Learn from presets... Surely there must be some preset out there that can satisfy your expectations? Then you look what has been done and learn from that. If this isn't the solution, then you just need better speakers (professional monitors) and a sound card.

@DubSpot But how do I load the drum kit "digital jah" into the midi track? did you make it on your own because I couldn't find it. And when I try to combine different sounds of kick, snare, etc it won't let me because of my version (maybe because it's a 30 days trial?) thanks.
