A human story that embodies Volvo's "Drive it like you hate it", Irv Gordon is an ordinary driver with an extraordinary car. Since buying his car at age 26, he has driven his 1966 Volvo P1800S a world-record 2.9 million miles.
I will never grow tired of watching this video clip. Thank you for bringing this story to life and sharing with the world wide web. Great guy, great car and excellent story telling.
Also, volvo 240 owner here, we've had ours since 1987, just fixed a major electrical failure, should be good to go for another 25 years. lost count of the mileage about 12 years ago, likely up at 300,000 by now. Sadly they don't make them that good anymore :(
About to clock over to 300k on my '87 244 with minimal repairs (fuel pump relay and overdrive solenoids, but that's it). It's also on its original engine and transmission. Before our '96 850 Turbo got broadsided by a drunkard in 2012, it had over 240k on its original engine and trans, without many repairs along the way. Our '04 XC70 is about to clock over to 150k (without many repairs) and have no doubt we'll get a good amount out of it too. Apart from the hiccups in the Ford ownership reign, I truly believe Volvo's are one of the best cars made. Volvo truly is "Volvo for Life"! I can't imagine not having a Volvo in my life, whether new or old!
@@Boz1211111 And how many other cars from that era made it to 1,000,000 miles. Actually, how many other cars from that era made it to 100,000 miles. Not many.
Volvo used to build great cars. I had a 240 that made it to 240,000 miles with NO engine problems before it was T-boned and totaled. I think the 240 series was the last great car made by Volvo. The cars made today are just a pile of plastic and electronics with no soul. Boring to drive.
