I Noah Thomas, the creator of this channel, have been diagnosed hypogonadism by a medical doctor and legally prescribed the medically indicated treatment of Testosterone Replacement Therapy.
My Story
My name is Noah and on May 18 2011, I had a rare reaction to a medication called VIVITROL and consequently, spiraled into a suicidal depression with depersonalization and anxiety. I lost 25 lbs in 4 weeks and was in full panic or near panic for 8 weeks straight mixed with the darkest most painful depression I cold have ever imagined. I immediately could not work and had to move in with my parents who, along with many siblings and friends, had to watch me 24/7 as I was a danger to myself. Eventually I was hospitalized in the Psych Ward for a week. Getting through each day seemed truly unbearable and I knew I would surely die. I have been put on many many different doctor prescribed SSRI's SNRI's Tricyclics, mood stabilizers, anti-psychotics, holistic meds, acupuncture and even a form of shock therapy called RTMS. I barely saw any improvement in my condition for a full year. It was decided I had treatment resistant depression and I spent nearly every moment in tears. Weeks after starting my newest round of medications (Seroquel & Nortryptaline) as a last ditch effort, I had my blood drawn for possible hormone imbalances and my Testosterone levels came back 200 ng/Dl and 150 ng/Dl. The average 25 year old male has 750 ng/Dl. With this discovery I had an explanation as to why I was not getting better and why I might be so so sick. The symptoms of Low T are very similar to those of major depression. I started legally prescribed testosterone replacement therapy soon after and have been checking in with the world and documenting my experience with treatment as well as giving my insight and perspective on various topics of mental health. I am blessed to say that I have slowly, over the last 6 years, been improving and becoming more stable which I never thought to be possible. My low T manifested itself in the form of Major depression, anxiety, and depersonalization/ derealization for over a year. Treating my low testosterone has been 1 HUGE part of the puzzle but I have had to continue to work hard to hold on to my mental stability with many set backs. Gaining some mental stability back is nothing short of a miracle as I was near death for what felt like forever. I do not consider myself to be totally healed yet but I am closer now then ever before and aim to use what I have been through to help or at least offer support to others in need I was able to successfully come off my Seroquel and Pamelor.
I work out all the time as a part of my mental health recovery!!! Weight training and all kinds of cardio rule much of my free time and I also share this on my channel.

I totally understand and I think you are so brave to show your using moments or your breaks in recovery. I find for me I hide when that happens. Mostly because my biggest supporters who are my family are the most judgmental. So for me to see someone like you show that yes you can fall off the wagon and this journey of ours is real I think you are very brave and I commend you for that. I am glad you took the video down and I am glad you addressed why. You are obviously very very smart and logical which is similar to me. All my life I had my younger sisters look up to me until they found out I was an addict that has misdemeanors for theft on my record. I was always very logical and worked hard for years as a surgical technologist. I kept my addiction to myself. Only my then (abusive) husband knew about it. Please keep your head held high because it will help you on your journey. Thankful to have found your channel.

I have been sober for 13 years. it is to me a matter of not giving in to the desire because as you said in a previous video about pure O (which I have as well) It is just a thought. Do I think about booze? Yes. What do it do? I acknowledge the thought and move on... .. A useful thing I did was get all my bloods taken... They showed that my cholesterol was through the roof, as was my blood pressure. Also the booze had increased my sex hormone binding globulin which buggered up my testosterone. I also grew boobs. So I have dropped 50lbs I now have low BP and I take supplemental Testosterone... My drinking partner- my wife refused to stop.........She drank herself to death.. Remember that taking a drink may well be a body or psychological compulsion. however you don't have to give in to it....... Us guys with OCD like to be in control----- you can do it :-)

I have been a supportive follower for several years now. After viewing your "drunk recording last week"; and with you stating repetitively over the last several months, "this isn't what this channel is about" - I have come to the conclusion that you do need to take a brake and deal with your drinking issue. This comes from personal experience, and those that I have witnessed - you are heading down a road of destruction Noah. Also, I say this in love 😇, and continued prayer for your recovery! I was a click away from dropping off your channel, but didn't - because you matter to God! Choose yourself over the impact of potentially losing an audience base. And, I will wait as long as it will take for your healthy return and freedom from addition!

Don't feel ashamed, you are really trying. Maybe tell yourself, "i can drink, if I choose, but I don't want to." Versus "I can't drink ever" or obsessing about how to moderate. Having that resistance feeds to problem psycolgically. For a while I obsessed about drinking.....when I would or wouldn't, how much, how hungover I would be, if it was worth the hangover, would I want to go back to the liquor store later, etc. Once I let go of those obsessive thoughts of resisting it so much, I felt a lot of the burden go away and it became easier to forgive myself and be aware or my drinking without obsessing. It's difficult not to be so hard on ourselves but less resistance will lead to more inner peace. Much love to you and thank you for always being so brave to be open with us!

You embraced testosterone replacement therapy. Have you tried regular therapy for the drinking/depression/anxiety? We share a very similar story in terms of TRT, anxiety and the drinking devil, and seeing a therapist to help me get to the cause of the drinking has been a huge success. I highly recommend it mate. Best of luck! I completely understand the grip it can have on you. PS. A great book to help you dig deeper is "Healing the Shame that Binds You" by John Bradshaw.

I'm a recovering addict and alcoholic, 2 years clean off heroin and meth in June, and just a few months sober of alcohol, and everyday is a struggle. As one of the people who watched that video, I have to say that even though I don't struggle with that exact problem, I still felt some sort of connection to the things you were saying. And it was interesting to see you speak in the way that you did. What I mean by that is that you were vulnerable and very open. You didn't censor yourself as much when you had a bad thought, you just said it out loud. And while it feels bad to hear you say things about yourself, it's also slightly nice to know that you think these things too. That you feel the same way. I don't know if this makes any sense at all. I just hope that you continue to be strong and that you get through this. Because you are strong enough. You are good enough. You can do it. We believe in you.

I understand what you're saying "how would people view me". I have been through allot in the past four years. Almost died after birth, the baby wasn't in the room, and left the hospital without him. On top of that two years of false accusations via CYS, two years of getting turned into the township, ECT. I litterly gave up trying to be "perfect". I posted on FB some of my depression while not everything. I have low end that lasts longer than the higher end of mania. It saved me allot of anxiety. My simple answer is "I'm beautifully broken. What I want through does not define me."

You made a choice you regret and feel shame over. I live with major depressive disorder and anxiety; ruminating over what i wish I hadn't done, and how I would have done it differently, has been a way of life for many years. Like you've I've done things I regret and feel shame over. Maybe different brain chemistry, maybe all kinds of other differences, but sounds like you are handling it well. Examining the situation to see what you can learn from it, working on not repeating the situation, and continuing to move on with being your best self.

Noah, it's tough to put yourself out there, I sure couldn't. I see you and I see someone struggling a lot. In my experience, unfortunately addicts have to be shocked into sobriety. Once there, that's when conditions of gentleness, empathy and understanding are essential. I'm curious how you managed to get sober on previous occasions? Was it when the pain and discomfort became such that drinking wasn't soothing enough?

Tbh I wouldn’t judge you on that video. You posted it up and it’s just one aspect of you as a person. Be that the struggle with drink, addiction, depression etc... that’s just you as a person right now being real. I watched and just hope and hoped you will get the help you need and require to combat your demons man. There are great aspects that shine through to, the honesty, motivation, the workouts, determination etc... no one person is perfect we are all glorious and we are all flawed. Life is a journey and it’s important we learn along the way and take each day in turn to better ourselves and learn from our mistakes. Don’t apologise and don’t reproach yourself. People that have been here the longest love and respect you and wouldn’t give up on you man. Nothing but love.

I didn't watch it at first, but after reading the title, I got worried about you and went back to watch and it had already been deleted. Give yourself a break - I think you may have actually done it for a good reason and didn't realize. Sometimes we'll show a side of ourselves to people in hopes of confirmation or denial of what we already know to be true. That can help make the next step more clear. The next step is to ask yourself some questions (which you probably already have); Do I drink simply because I like to get drunk? Is it strictly a physical addiction that could possibly even be genetically based when there's no real mental desire to drink? Is there pain in my past or a very negative self image that I'm trying to medicate away because deep down I feel like I deserve a self-destructive habit? Have I come to identify myself with my struggles so much, that if I don't hold on to at least one I won't know myself anymore? Am I afraid of responsibility to myself to live to a higher expectation if I'm sober? You've probably already gone over these in your head many times, but I've seen all of the above be very real reasons people drink. Your video probably even helped some people struggling with the same problem. You open yourself up so much to people you can't even see - who realize openness and vulnerability are wonderful qualities to have and are inspired by it. We've already understood and given you a break before you have done the same for yourself. Good vibes to you always...

I understand it may have been a trigger to some, but I did not take it that way. I appreciated your video, relapse is a real concern with us all in recovery. Your video allowed us to see your struggles and the harsh reality of it all. it makes me feel better knowing it happens and we're not the only ones that go through this. but we gotta pull up our big girl panties and get back on track. We're human we make mistakes, it's just important to learn and not repeat them. Don't be so hard on yourself if this were a cakewalk situation and you never failed ever then I would question the sincerity of your journey. That's why no matter how many years someone stays clean we still identify as a recovering addict, not in past tense.

Mate honestly your actions are absolutely excused. Alcoholism is one of the hardest things to beat in my opinion. I love what your channel is about and I fully respect your intentions and the intention of your channel.

We all make mistakes dude. I have to be honest with you on some level. If you can control you're drinking. You seem to mention that you be sober for 2 or 3 days and then drink. If you can control it, it's not a problem. I have seen a bunch of your post and it seems at times you can't control it. You haven't made it to that and kudos. And I will admit I do look forward to some of your post. I was a hard-core alcoholic for 14 years. We're talkin half gallon of vodka every 2 days. For me to quit drinking I had to detox in a hospital. That's something I haven't heard you mention. How you got sober and if you need it to be medically detoxed. I wouldn't mind a video based on that if there is one. Beer typically does nothing for me. Can't drink it fast enough to get a affect. You keep doing you man.

Dude, being on trt makes me want to drink all the time and I have never been much of a drinker at all. I can go 2 weeks and touch nothing and then, Bam I slammed 18 brews for no reason.

Put mental health first. I do but then I say, “nothing about this thinking is helping my mental health. ,Then I put a problem in my higher power’s hands and forget it. Do everything that makes you happy. Play a sport, travel even if it is just for the weekend. Go to the movies and go out for dinner with wifey. Indoor rock climbing, go zip lining. Anything that makes you feel better. This addiction requires obsession. What if you obsess about happiness and feeling better. By the way, your feelings are not facts, especially about the deleted video. Nobody else is obsessing on it. So forget it! You are over reacting to it. Trust me, we will get over it 😊. Plan for something fun to do every week. Go to meetings and don’t drink. Stop worrying- nobody cares about that video. I even forget what you said. So calm down. Stop those negative thoughts and tell them to get lost. Feelings are not facts.

I know a guy for 32 years. I had to detach myself. He was an alcoholic. He was a controlling narcissist that at his teen he had to combat the Cambodian genocide. I did not know that I was living in his PTSD. He left his mother so young to be here with his brother on his back. That was one of the reasons why it always have to be my fault. But now I learned it's not okay. He is still an alcoholic. But you own up and admit what you did. He could be pissed drunk and he would reek of alcohol and say that he is okay or stand up for what he does. Why I know you are not an alcoholic .... you will admit you fail. Like I say.. failing is what give us strength to do better. My father did not and he never apologised and own up to what he did wrong. Wow![applauding...] 8 hours... that gotten you to realized what you are doing. My friend you just made a mistake. The worst thing you can do is admit you did something wrong, knowing you did something wrong and not changing for the better. You are on the road to recovery because you realises it. we are all here NOT because we are judging you. We are here listening because you are a strong person for admitting you are going through something, reaching out to those who don't have a support system. You are your worst enemy and believe me and many others... You are our support and we are staying through your rough moments too. My 1st message to you on one of your older post explains a little about me. I am a prisoner to myself because I had to live in shame and guilt. Born in America, Mind of an old Asian tradition and passed. I just recently had to do the detachment because I have a 20 month old that I chosen over all that had been embedded in me. It only been 3 months ago since I end all connections with them. My mom chose him and I am her youngest. Be strong and we all have to be there for one another because no one else will.

Noah, you’re fine. I saw that vid, clicked on it and then shut down RU-vid in a couple seconds. I have an OT question for you- since my major depression in 2014, I have not exercised at all. Recently, I started a new job with my CNA license, and it involves caring for people severely disabled. One of my clients is about 600 or 700 pounds, and another is a man in advanced Alzheimer’s who is very tall and muscular, heavy, and tenses his muscles. I have noticed that every single muscle in my being is toning up. Epsom salt to the rescue. Then I stepped on a scale, and I gained like 10ish pounds. I know muscle weighs more than fat, and I know I’m getting toned. I guess I just need your validation that this is normal. Thanks.

Please Big Mon - forgive yourself. First rule of the club, mes ami! You slipped up, but the true measure is now to do something positive about it all. We all mess up from time to time and yeah, it's awkward for a bit, but then we realize why we stick around people certain people ... in your case, it is your positive attitude and sheer determination. If anyone starts giving you guff about it from this point onward, I would seriously question their motives ... You are clearly contrite and will learn from it. Anyone who has been in any way following you knows you're one of the good guys. Looking forward to some good vids and maybe a change in direction for a while might help things. You'd have to learn stuff and that'd be a distraction ... maybe some comedy sketch or cookery . Or music ... Noah's Norwegian Black Metal Workout Hour ;-P

Forgive me. I’ve been watching these vlogs for a few weeks now. I may be ignorant/naive but my point is this. Noah, are you looking to get sober and STAY sober? OR no. Because there are drinkers. You drink often, so what?! I’m saying if you’re trying to get sober and stay sober then fucking get off the booze and STAY OFF of it! What does your wife think? Do you even consider what she feels or says? Or she doesn’t care what you do? It seems you being and “alcoholic” and saying you need therapy or what ever it is is not working. So it’s my question do you wanna stay clean or no? Simple. Cause if you’re gonna binge then binge. Drink. Get drunk. Feel sick the next day. But don’t post videos implying you wanna stop. Stay safe. Wish you well. And maybe try AA. Again. ??? I dunno.

As long as you’re not drinking out of cravings I guess. Everyone in their twenties binge drinks all summer long, winter, fall, spring, it happens. Just don’t drink all day every day

I guess what I’m trying to say, is don’t drink to cover a problem and it’s really not an issue, unless your drinking hard liquor everyday. I’m not encouraging you too drink, just from experience I know there’s a difference between the two. I have friends that go out and drink every weekend, as to where I enjoy some drinks after work once or twice a week.
