As much as I dislike that “tumblr art style” that you’re talking about, I understand that it really is harmless. Except for the art depicting trans characters (especially trans men) with overly exaggerated feminine features (I think you know the specific art I’m referring to). I’m not trans myself but I heard art like that can really trigger gender dysphoria for some people.

Yeah, my characters have bandaids/bandages for several different reasons. The one with most prominent injuries, it's because she gets in a lot of street fights. Another one is pretty clumsy, so he gets minor injuries a lot. Although I do have a character with bandages on his arms to hide self harm scars, but I absolutely don't romanticize it and almost never even draw the scars themselves, cause it may be uncomfortable for some people. It's part of his story, trying to heal his depression and trauma the best he can. Sooo... don't romanticize self harm y'all

I also used to despise the "sjw" art style, but as time went on I also realized I was indifferent about the art itself. I think what I really hated was the aggressive "like it or you're bad" mentality that came with it. Or at least, that I personally saw: "I drew [insert female character] with lots of body hair! Don't like it? Sexist!" "Don't like my OC design? Well my OC is trans, so now you're transphobic" That's what really turned me off, and I ended up projecting that onto the art itself.

Yeah, also there's really only one big problem with racebending. Again, if you change the race to relate to it more or "just because" that's completely fine. Personally, that's not how I relate to characters, I relate to them because of their situation and morals as opposed to their race, sexuality, or gender, but it's fine if that's how you relate to characters. The big problem I see a lot with racebending (especially white changed to something else) is that the person "fixed the character" as if now that they're a different race they're a better person??? Honestly, that mentality is pretty racist though, and should not be forgiven in my opinion.

Not going to lie, but I stopped watching that video when she said: "Some people think it's hypocritical to be against white washing and be for blackwashing, and to that I say I think you're missing the point." Okay, not exactly that part, I watched what she said after about context and society but the point is in my opinion, no, it's still hypocritical. The context does matter, if you're doing it just because you like it then I'm fine with it. I've seen plenty of fanart of blake from rwby as black I like, as well as yang (another rwby character). Unfortunately those are the only two who immediately come to mind at the moment but the point is those people did those because they, as far as I could tell, just liked how the characters looked that way. that's all well and good. But if you're doing that and then complaining about making a character white, or even just lightening their skin a little, you're a hypocrite. (No I'm not saying her video was bad, honestly my attention was a little divided but I did find her video good up to that point)

One of the things I remember I had a bit of an issue with in the video is the "self-harm" bit I mean of course, it's a serious topic and a proper trigger warning is required and it shouldnt be shown in much of a positive light. But from what I remember you showed characters with colorful bandages on their fingers and legs, which doesn't necessarily mean self harm, and considering they're children, it could be due to them playing to roughly outside, tripping and getting a few booboos :p

I mean it became a trend in some parts of the world, i believe japan was one of the places? (i could be wrong about that one in particular) Where those who glorified self harm would wear cutesie aesthetic bandages over their scars and clothing with text that promoted their ideals. It was part of their whole thing, and that's why people would see those bandages and automatically assumed glorification of self harm. Also no one really had an issue with small children being portrayed with those bandages cus like...kids bandages tend to be colorful, but it was usually when older teens and adults were portrayed with them and self harm scars.

@bandidocavalier 4 года назад
@@Buzzkilljoy1248 actually nothing alike to non binary. here, on gender and sex identity you have what would be like three categories. first biological sex. that means your chromosomes, your hormones, your genitalia, etc. Then you got gender, that is basically the shape of your brain. Theres overall a common type of shape among men and a common type of shape among women, of distinct regions that activate or develop stronger on each gender. Gender dysphoria is when the structure of your brain doesnt matches with your biological sex, as we still cant change the brain, we change our bodies!! non binary people have shown to have brain structures who either match equally with both genders or none, causing them dysphoria from both gender expressions. an androgynous presentation seems to be the best way to alleviate the dysphoria from the level of technology and research we have at the time, but is still being improved. Least but not least, you have gender expression. This is the way you show yourself. This and gender are the reason of why a crossdresser and a trans girl arent the same, or a tomboy and a pre everything trans boy. This is basically how you express, how you dress, how you talk how you walk, the "stereotypical" gay man, per example, would have a femenine gender expression, while a butch lesbian would have a very masculine one. As they dont experience gender dysphoria they are still cis. A gender non conforming person is someone with a gender expression that is androgynous or just overall doesnt conforms to gender stereotypes. The gender expression is what is an actual social construct, not gender. A dude can wear a dress and still be a dude, and a girl can leave her armpit hair grow and still be a girl. i hope it helps!! i also wanted to make clear that yhe disconnection between brain and sex can also be adressed as gender incongruence, but the incongruence causes the dysphoria and the dysphoria cant be there without the incongruence so is the same and gender dysphoria is a more known term so yeah!! also english is not my first language so sorry if none of that made sense eheh

As both a trans person and an artist, I understand both sides of the argument on portraying trans characters. Everything depends on context, if your character is ftm but wears a dress; maybe they're a "screw gender roles" type of person! Who cares? Context is everything. If your character still looks male but if mtf, maybe they're still in the closet and unable to transition or dress how they want because of their community. Again, context. If you fetishise trans people: No. Stop it. Go sit in the corner and rethink your views on people just trying to be people. Don't. Fetishise. Trans people.

I think Zi-Zi really just...wants to try and make truce with people that are friendly to this mindset and make people stop approaching her for advice on drawing transsexual characters. Maybe she's recently developed a new relationship and she wants to distance herself from an ideology she now finds inconvenient? Maybe she has seen interest, customer engagement, and commissions drop? Or maybe she's become popular with crowds friendly to these ideas and she doesn't want trouble? It pretty much comes off as 'I don't want trouble'. It's even possible she got approached by people who draw in that weird Tumblr style who were...nice to her, and it made her feel bad. Whatever the reasons, something comes off as disingenuous with this video.

Even though I don't call myself an "Anti-sjw", I still despise SJWs with a passion, simply by the fact that whenever someone makes something that does not match to their liking, they're immediately harassed, and with tumblrs who go with those "pronouns" none of us ever said that their lives aren't valid, we just think their mentality on gender is very silly to go with. Now when it comes to them creating art, I'm still going to dislike what they do, especially those "artists" who always accuse others of being racist/homophobe/etc. yet they ironically do exactly that. one thing I never understood about them is that they WANT censorship, they want to limit what we express and create because they don't like it. Yet they are "artists". It's a very contradicting position to be honest. Overall I just let them be, but good lord do they have double standards.

I wouldn’t say that i am, but i’m what you’d typically call an “sjw”, and i must admit... You’re right. It doesn’t make sense that we’d want censorship, especially when you consider the fact that explicit & positive depictions of gay & silly gender stuff have been censored from all forms media for decades. You’d think treatment like that would make us hate censorship.... Unless..... The majority of us *do* hate it, and those that actively & aggressively enforce it (though it doesn’t excuse their behaviour), are only doing so because they’ve been through some shit and are paranoid as all fuck about being hurt again. Why haven’t you heard about this supposedly awful shit we’ve apparently gone through, i hear you ask? Well, you got me there. It’s kinda hard to say... It’s almost as if we’re being..... Ah, what’s the word? .......Censored???? Ah whatever. I’m rambling. Could be wrong.

Berserker !! Yes i completely agree. Sorry if i wasn’t clear about that. Sending someone death threats on twitter over some mistake they made is incredibly unproductive, and just terrible in general. My point was that it’s also unproductive to assume that just because someone online was mean to you, everyone on that side acts the same. It would also be nice if people stopped assuming that anything that conflicts with their own logic automatically means that the opposing side are just being hypocrites, instead of figuring out that they may not know as much as they think they do.

Your old video wasn't wrong though. The tumblr art style was and still is steeped in political tomfoolery, but that is a broad stroke and not every artist in that vicinity applies. Art should indeed not be censored, but let us not pretend that the sjw art style isn't what it is. Not that we should get the pitchforks out, but let us at least not forget the order of things, it will help to avoid getting mixed back in with that mess.

I’ve always been on the “I don’t care what you do” side of things, my problem with said artstyle or just Tumblr people in general, is when they try to impose their views on others. Sure, draw your hairy females and race bend all you want. Just, don’t make me draw something I don’t want to for the sake of your ideology, and no, by refusing to draw it, doesn’t mean I hate you or your views. As an artist on Tumblr, I'm still building my style, and I like making poc characters, I like making lgbt characters, I like trying to make characters with different Body types! If someone criticizes me for it I just say, "this is my style, what's yours?" You should never judge someone by what they draw, just their character! If they're rude and disrespectful, they don't deserve your attention, but if they're kind and nice people, they don't deserve to be discriminated against for being Tumblr artists! So many amazing artists I've met on Tumblr, I don't regret having made my account and blogs!^-^ Tumblr isn't the best platform, but it's a place that brings me comfort.

I have hated racebending since when I first discovered it, but I've come to realize that it's none of my business what people draw. I compared it to the concept of genderbending, which I never had a problem with because I just thought it was a cool way to reimagine a character. Then I realized racebending could be thought of as a similar thing. Don't get me wrong, I still hate it. I can't help but be turned off by it. But I can understand why some people like it, and I'm not going to cry SJW when I see racebending fanart unless I can absolutely tell the artist is just using the art as a sort of virtue signaling.

I'm glad you responded to... Yourself I guess however I still don't agree with the self-harm thing partly. Yes of course self harm shouldn't be portrayed as cute, it's not, however I don't think that the examples you gave were trying to portray it as cute. The characters were literally wearing bandages to cover their scars (they weren't glorifying them). Perhaps they were colorful because it's part of their aesthetic but then that means that bright colors are their aesthetic, not self harm. I also remember you showing two characters who had bright bandages but they neither of them look like they self harmed. Both of them seemed like clumsy children who accidentally hurt themselves. So yeah self harm ain't cute, but it's real

I want to mention a few things regrading “trans art”. I have friends and personal experience in this case as well. That kind of art can trigger mild dysphoria, but for some people it can literally give them a panic attack. For a friend of mine it made him break down crying because it just hurt so much to have the painful “truth” as some call it inflicted upon them. The truth in this case being that you can’t get rid of certain features of your old self, or sometimes, the most crucial part may not be accessible for some people. (Bottom surgery) And seeing people fetishise their pain makes them not only hate themselves but tears down their confidence, because they don’t feel like they’ll be treated like the person they wanna be. A good quote to describe this would be “they think all lgbt people are just cute little pets”. From personal experience, I can tell you the people who specifically draw this art are typically not trans. They’re people going through a phase where they need to feel special. Since they aren’t trans, they don’t handle the situations appropriately and instead create harmful content under the guise of being “LGBT”. You can identify as whatever you want, but DO NOT use “transsexual” to describe identifying as intersex or something along those lines. Yes, diversity is good, yes we want to see interesting features in art. But we don’t want harmful content to be glorified either.

Renan Haddad This comment is not referring to people taking creative liberties. It refers to people who fetishise others pains and struggles. A good example of this is RCDart, who was bullied off of the internet for a good god damn reason. She, fetishized a trans version of Steve Rogers. Not because she herself was trans, but because she thought it was hot. Referring to this so called “trans-man” as a slut and repeatedly making porn of him getting fucked treated like a woman, despite being a “trans-man”. That art right there triggered so many peoples dysphoria. That is harmful art. She got bullied off the internet because of her disrespectful ways to depict trans and black people. If you don’t believe me, look up her art and have a look yourself.

The only thing I get conflicted about in your points is the pastel band aid stuff, and wearing lots of bandages, because I agree if you are portraying self harm and suicide as quirky thats wrong. Although the way it was explained last time made it sound like they cant have lots of those band aids, and I have drawn characters that just wear them as like stickers? If that makes sense but If some people take that as offensive because they arent actually injured i guess that makes sense. The part I'll always remember from that vid was the glorification of cutting or mental illness in the art. I think that part of that kind of art is from yami kawaii fashion and there is even a character based off of yami kawaii. From what I can remember from a video about it, some of the people in the yami kawaii community think of the fashion as a way to cope with their mental illness/issues. Although I'm not entirely sure if it's glorification or not, but I think that type of expression can give off the wrong ideas to young teens.
