Welcome to the next step at Kona Academy. This episode will learn you about the stance.
There is a few things to think about regarding the stance, to get a better feeling and a better balance as well. And the key is the position of the feet and where you are standing on the board.
In this video we are showing you:
- The position,
- The heel
- The power stance
If you standing to far forward the board will dig into the water and decrease the speed. The board will also feel bit unstable due to the fin is almost out of the water.If you are position closer to the tail of the board will turn easier, but will also be unstable and turn in an uncontrolled way. The ideal is standing in the center, whit a shoulder width between the fots.
The next step of getting in to a great position is learn how to maneuver the board whit a few steps. The results of learning this will do good for the balance and that you will feel more comfortable on the water. Start with spread the toes, move the heel towards center so you get a stabil stance. Slowly move the feet backwards towards the tail. One by one at a slow speed in the beginning. Move back a few steps, then forward again towards start position. Practice this a few times.
The power stance, will allow you to put more power into every paddle. You start with heels in center align with the board. Moving the heels inwards and then moving one foot behind the other. This is a technic that’s popular during sprint races.
