I think this is different than my vehicle, but is close enough to be of value. thank you for a great diagnostic process and video! I think I would use a test light instead of the MM to ensure the circuit can carry a load. Great work nonetheless, and thanks again.
HI JT....I HAVE A 07 EXPEDITION XLT AND MY ABS LIGHT CAME ON WITH CODE C1095 AND CODE C1233 . CHANGED ALL 4 SPEED SENSORS AND GOT RID OF C1233 CODE. NOW I BLED ALL THE BRAKES AND ADDED BRAKE FLUID AND THE C1233 CODE CLEARED ALSO. GREAT I WAS SAYING TO MYSELF. A COUPLE OF DAYS WENT BY AND MY ABS LIGHT CAME BACK ON.....THIS TIME NO CODES. I RAN IT FOR A BIT AND IT WOULD GO OFF. ABS LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF, NO CODES, FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. WHAT CAN IT BE? PLEASE HELP THANK YOU.
If the ABS is on, you will need to connect scanner with abs communication capabilities. Once you connect scanner, you will verify the codes that may represent the issue with your abs system. Having a abs light on can be many possibilities of issues. Retrieving the codes is the first step to diagnosis the and abs system.
Sure would be nice to have a video like this for the F250 of the same Era! But, I am going to try to see how close this is to my 2003 F250. Where did you get the step-by-step process, perhaps I can obtain it for my F250 as well? THanks.
identifix.com However, Alldatadiy.com has wire schematics and troubleshooting steps for your vehicle. I believe its 29.99 for 1 year subscription per vehicle. Hope this helps.
@@713jtmechanic8 I have some 'friends' who provided me with the pinouts from the digital shop manual so I am good to go. Mated up to the data I have in my AllDataDIY account, it will help greatly.
Good info on an older vehicle. Have ABS and traction control lights on my 09, looks like I have to go the refurbished route and send mine in. These newer vehicles if you buy a new ABS module they have to be reprogrammed. Since mine will be refurbished, it's already programmed. Thanks for the video!
My truck will fluctuate high idle then low, up and down. And sometimes turn off at stop or slow idle. I'm getting same codes as this video. Runs great at driving speed. Anything else you can think of?
@@laineyalfaro1275 if you are getting same codes, it’s possible the solenoid connections in the module have loose contacts or solenoids shorted. This can cause unusual problems. Those codes indicate a faulty abs module
Hey GT thanks for the education with this video I have the same problem and I'm fixing to go to the process to identify if it's the module I appreciate it very much if I find out if it's the module I'll come back and post I appreciate it very much thank you God bless and be safe🙋♂️🙋♂️
My plug in connector is different then the one shown in the video... 1999 Expedition has 2 plugs that plug into that in the front and doesn't have that "black tab lock" either it has a smaller "red clip lock" The connector doesn't have those slotted pins....
Good video. I've got a code that indicates the left front wheel sensor has a problem. I replaced the sensor, and its still doing the same thing (ABS light). I dont mind firing the "parts cannon" when the part is $15, but its not so easy when the part is $300+ I'm wondering if this module could be the problem?
I have to say ABS systems are my weak point. You did a good job of illustration of your diagnosis’s of same. I have a question there is a 5 pin relay for the ABS on the same truck of year. I’m having a hard time locating it. Could you give me a lil shout out help. Thx
Thank you @rubenaviles4846 for you positive feedback. I found this regarding relay location. Hope this helps. Unfortunately, I don’t know location by memory. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yekIt8UYdQ4.htmlsi=0mSGtkSB8AwduRNC
Not sure about the flashing. I have not experience that on my truck. Regarding transmission shifts hard. Check if your transmission fluid is at correct level and if it needs changing. Keep us posted. Good luck.
Shifts hard...on an 02? If you've kept up with the fluids, then the tranny is most likely getting ready to die on you. Reason #8 why I hate automatics, expensive as hell to rebuild.
The pump is separate from the module meaning the module has nothing to do with the actual hydraulic abs pump. No light, there is a high probability that the module is good regarding with your vehicle’s abs pump leaking. Focus on replacing pump. Module is good. In my opinion.
On my 2000 ford expedition 4.6L V8 Triton XLT my ABS light came on and there is a humming noise by my brake fluid reservoir on the driver's side. The noise is heard also while I am driving and the humming noise is still heard when I turned the vehicle off. No one can tell me anything. I'm going to check my fuses, but that noise is still going on. I disconnected the battery cables and that's the only way that noise stopped. Now when I get off work I'll have to connect the battery cables to drive. Could this be the same issue? Any help would be appreciated, from a female whose a newbie at fixing my own vehicle because I've been ripped off by a mechanic and that's why I fix my own now.
When you hear the humming sound, place your hand on the plastic housing of abs module. Make sure the humming sound is vibrating from abs module. If not, you continue inspect where the humming noise is coming from. Get codes from abs module. This will give you a more accurate direction to find problem.
@@713jtmechanic8 Thank you for the response. I'll have to remove the mass air flow/air filter assembly to feel the abs module and follow your advice. Thanks again.😊
@@713jtmechanic8After putting my hand on the abs plastic housing, the humming noise/vibration is coming from the abs module. Can you tell me what's the best way to check the abs module? Do I use a multimeter like you have and check it like you did in this video?
@@713jtmechanic8 Also after checking my fuses #102 and #23 they are both good. If I remove fuse #102 that will stop the humming noise from the ABS module. Is it safe to leave that fuse out? Sorry for all these questions.😊
Hello Sheryar, I researched the C1214 code. Items to verify: Brake fluid leaks. Wheel cylinder vibrates due to uneven wear of a brake rotor. Foreign matter enters solenoid valve. Line pressure drops during air bleeding. Brake pad is replaced. Rotor is replaced. If brake pads or brake rotors replaced recently, Toyota suggest to perform air brake bleed procedure. This can be performed by using a scan tool with those capabilities. I hope this helps.
The only fuses for the abs or relate to the abs are mentioned in the video. The codes you are different than the issue I had to work on. However, I highly suggest to purchase a subscription to alldatadiy for your vehicle. This will give you the troubleshooting info needed to properly diagnose your codes.
I am trying to help my dad troubleshoot his 2000 Ford F-150. His ABS light is on but the bigger issue is that suddenly the module is giving a continuous vibrating hum that won’t stop. A mechanic from a ford dealership said to possibly unhook the power to the module and if it runs fine it could be left alone?
Definitely, need to address abs issue. Yes, removing the fuse for abs module may stop the humming, but will affect brake performance. It can be safety issue.
where you having braking issues ? or was it just the ABS light that you work on ? My 1999 drivers front wheel completly locked up I change the calipper and a brake line and still no solving the issue so next thing it will be the module that im checking next
The abs light was on, but no braking issues. I experienced this before. I replaced a caliper and it continued to lock up. It was a faulty brake line. Fluid will to caliper, but did not flow back to restriction in brake line.
Thank you so much for the video, it was very helpful indeed. Now my question is, how did you get to solve the B1676, which is the high voltage code. Did that one also get resolved by exchanging the ABS Module?
Signal light is in a different circuit than ABS. Seems your truck has two separate issues. If ABS light on. Check the common problems. Front ABS wheel sensors and rear wheel sensors.
what if the 2 wire plug on the side when plugged in you have the motor on it running none stop? unplugged it quites what would that be motor or modules
I have the same c1185 code. I know a buddy who has an electronic store and he opened up module and replaced a few mosfet chips. I didn’t check the solenoids as you mentioned here. Everything checked good when diagnosing the module being bad. Assuming another issue is in the module like a solenoid. I do recall my solenoids would wiggle a lot. Id like to know what module solenoids suppose to feel like. Great video btw
Hi Zach, I noticed each solenoid has to two contacts and the contacts are solder on to circuit board. This is what I experienced on my module, if the solenoid has excessive movement, there is a high probability chance the solder is broken. If the solenoid feels stable, there is a slight feel of play, the contacts are in good condition. Hope this helps. Thank you
@@713jtmechanic8 makes sense bc I went over a rough intersection this morning that’s in the process of being repaved and it came on shortly after. Bad contacts more than likely on these solenoids. I’m going to try a local pull it junk yard.
Great Video. I have an 03F150 and ABS light just came on. Does have to be replaced with a new module or would 1 from a junk yard work as well as long those 6 silver solenoids are tight?
I rember reading about this problem long time ago wasn't there like a small chip inside that goes bad and just replacing the chip it would fixe the issue
I can’t confirm if it does. I have not run into that problem. However, I believe the abs module may send an error to the ECM that can affect the cruise control indicator light.
Great video! helped a lot, I replaced mine with a refurbished one from eBay. But light went off and comes back on when I push the brakes. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thx
Thank you for your input. I am glad the video help you out. Regarding the brake light symbol coming on when applying brakes. It has to be a fault on the refurbished module. Did this problem exist before replacing abs module?
@@713jtmechanic8 before I replaced the module the ABS light was always on, no matter what I did. With this refurbished one, if i turn off and on the truck it will disappear untill i start going and apply the brakes. Thanks again
Que tal amigo. Recomiendo verificar los códigos del sistema ABS para obtener una mayor precisión en el diagnóstico del problema. Sin embargo, lo mas probable es que sea el modulo.
I have a 2000 expedition 5.4 my ABS light is on. My brake module motor is continuously running even when I shut the engine off and drained my battery. Is the module bad or the brake motor.? Please let me know I did put another module in that I bought used, but still had the same problem
I have a 2000 F-150 and my abs light came on a few days ago. Should I go through the same steps to see if I have the same problem or will my numbers be different
Excellent question. I suggest to retrieve abs code first, then diagnose accordingly. However, if your codes are like the ones on the video then this video will help you in diagnosing.
@@713jtmechanic8 Thanks but I have one more question. How important is it to get this abs problem fixed. I want hurt anything else if it takes me a few days to get it fixed will i.
@@biggmattdogg1 in my experience the abs having a fault will not hurt the system if you don’t repair in a timely manner. It will not perform to its full potential. Panic stops will not be as efficient as with a working abs system.
I just tested mine. I'm having the same issue. However, I get about 9.8 volts at pin 16, instead of the 11.8 volts that I got from pins 9 and 25, does this mean my abs module is bad or does the low voltage at pin 16 mean something else?
Double check your battery voltage. If your battery voltage was close to pin 16, then I will suggest to check your battery. If you have 12.4- 12.6 volts at battery, but 9.8 volts at pin 16. That circuit has large resistance somewhere.
My question is where is the actual relay? Is it in the module itself? I did all the checks you showed and the code reader said it is a bad relay. I have a new one but cannot locate.
@@713jtmechanic8 yes that is what I heard. I wonder it is more beneficial to change the whole module. Oreilly’s will sell you a relay with a lifetime warranty but if it is inside the module that may be a better way to repair it.
@@713jtmechanic8 I have a few questions. I will ask one by one if thats ok. While following the steps you gave I saw the brake pressure switch has a leak. Would that cause the check engine light to go on?
@@AR-ks7qw excellent question. A leak from the brake switch on most vehicles will not emit a check engine light, only a brake light on instrument cluster, especially, not on this model. A leak or small leak at the brake switch coming from the seal, if the leak is at mounting surface. It’s possible the brake switch can leak from the housing of switch. If this is the case, then the brake switch needs replacing.
@@713jtmechanic8 That is good to know. Here I was thinking it did have to do with the light. Still glad I got that replaced becuase it was super dirty all around. ok now the fuse 102 (50amp) from my truck I just found it laying inside the fuse box & tried putting it in it's place. When I did it gave a little shock & the motor of something went on. Taking it back off made the noise go away. I also bought a new fuse (50) for it because the bottom part of the old one looked burned. Tried to install the new one & the same happened again. Could there be a circuit failure somewhere causing that? I'm in the process of checking all the fuses also because the odometer goes crazy & sometimes doesn't even turn on. I'm new to all of this & I really never thought I would be doing work to my own vehicle. Your videos encouraged me to do it. Thanks a million.
@@713jtmechanic8 also my abs light isn't on at all but took my truck to Auto Zone for the fix it findder test & the codes you show here are the same that I got for my 2001 f150
@@mike5585 No, I don't believe it does. My reason. There is no option to program to an exact VIN for truck. Its not like the newer Mercedes benz or other German cars. Ford keep it simple.
@@mike5585 his truck is too old (01-04). New model vehicles, if you buy a new ABS module for your newer truck (I have an 09 that would need to be programmed) will also need to be programmed. There are refurbishing places that will take your old one and re-solder those internals Hella cheaper than a new one, and it WONT need reprogrammed because it already came off your vehicle. And yes, you can still drive without that module...just won't have ABS....which you already don't have if your ABS light is on.
I do not think you need to reprogram a used module. As long it is for same truck model. No cero que necesites reprogramar el modulo. Mientra sea para F150.
