So as a blind person comic books are one of the few media types that are basically completely inaccessible for me these days. That is a bummer because this new Batman comic sounds awesome and I would love to check it out! I love Batman and this seems like a really fun and unique cake. Awesome video! Thanks for the review. The choice of using Alfred as the P.O.V character was interesting. And the sequence with him breaking down Bruce's fighting style against the Black Mask goons was cool. I wonder if it's something that's going to continue in the next issues. Also, Martha says "TT." Damian definitely took that from his grandmother.

This Joker going thru mainline Bruce’s globe-trotting training is fascinating; I want more of these self-contained, less mainline comics, less editorially mandated comics; excited to see where this goes!

I've heard most of the pun names surrounding this comic: Absolute Unit, The Batman Who Lifts, Bruce Gains, etc.. After reading the first issue, I think "Terry McThickness" is my new favorite.

Really liked this Batman. The fact he is from the lower class makes him feel more relatable. I like how this Batman doesn’t try to be grounded and embraced the silliness of being a comic book. I like this version of Bruce as much as I like Ultimate’s version of the older Peter Parker. I think comics can benefit themselves not by making alternate universe but to tell self contained great stories the fans can enjoy.

I can appreciate the concept. However, I always liked the billionaire Bruce Wayne and his trauma. It shows that trauma can happen to anyone regardless of status. There's more of a need to prove he can get dirty.

The Batman who loves his mama I loved his inspiration for bats, he loved them as a kid, and based off the trauma, that love of bats maybe developed into his motivation, coping mechanism or an escape even. Loved this premiere issue ❤

I cant wait to see Absolute Batman meet the main Batman. The juxtaposition of this bruce's societal status vs the main bruce's societal status should be quite interesting to see depending on the writing

An action figure of this Batman would be an ABSOLUTE pain. The logo axe, the batarang ears, the tiny batarangs, yeah you're definitely going to lose most of it

Probably the best homage to DKR since the 89’ Batman film and BTAS. I thought The Joker was the most intriguing part of the comic so far though. Not funny and rich. Also a wealthy Joker vs a working class Batman is a great idea. I have a feeling this comic will reinvent Batman the way Dark Knight Returns did. Great video!

I'll go with the classic #notmybatman Great for those that love it, and I hope it continues on and that it gives those readers what they want. If the original Batman is allowed to exist alongside the new one then I don't see a problem.

Finished reading the first issue and I love it already. The narration, the new take on Bruce's backstory, his past and his "friends", Alfred's role in the new comic and the quick introductions of major Batman characters and the epilogue. I can't wait to read the next issue. Also, before the issue came out, I predicted the character introduced in the epilogue was going to be rewritten to be just like that, 💰

I like Absolute Batman. His logo reminds me of Steve Harvey‘s mustache.

This does remind me of Batman Beyond in how they make a younger less wealth Batman with a living parent.

I absolutely love this take on Batman. All the subtle nods to mainline Bats, the fresh twists, Agent Alfred... I screamed multiple times reading this comic, was so good

I love the twist that he still has one of his parents. Interesting to see where that goes.

Shadow the Hedgehog at his edgiest is cool to me, personally, but honestly, Absolute Batman has some cool concepts like the cape hooks, but it does feel a bit fanficy and a bit edgy. Like there is potential, but the battle axe is too much, and I both love and thoathe it.

Batman knowing all his villains from a young age, was I the only one reminded of Gotham High, that unmade TV show where it only had 1 or 2 pictures made of it

The issue was very interesting for sure, great hooks throughout the entire issue and I am incredibly excited to see what each version of the characters we are familiar with, especially considering the somewhat antagonistic role Alfred and Bruce have towards each other. I am interested on how the rogues gallery is going to be adapted and the lengths of change Scott is willing to go, but I am cautiously optimistic about how he will handle Joker, because (hot take) I would really like for him to not be Bruce's archenemy but Alfred's since the normal Joker and Batman dynamic has gotten stale for me, so I would really like for someone else to be made the 'nemesis' to Batman

Seeing your shirt reminded me i had that poster as a kid.

It looks interesting, but I'm also wary of it. Like, it's just another AU stunt kind of thing. There's already big whiffs of the impermanence. I remember when Marvel did the Ultimate line, and one of the big deals was that it was SEPARATE, the idea of unloading the decades of continuity baggage. Mixing things up here and there, but it was all building up in the book you were reading. And that's part of why they lasted for 15 damn years! Some of the best books Marvel had in the 00s. But this is instantly showing it's not built to last. Doubt we'll get 2 years of these stories, and they're stacking up too much all at once. They look pretty, and it has some interesting concepts. But I'd almost prefer something closer to "just starting from scratch" like the Ultimate line. Absolute Batman as a new story of Bruce. Don't even necessarily have to change EVERYTHING they did here. I kinda like the idea Bruce becoming more intimately familiar with the city as part of his efforts. He can be meaner and all that. Hell, it would be kind of interesting to have Thomas just be super wealthy and he became a teacher ANYWAY, because he knew he'd never actually be poor. I dunno. But I'm not gonna be a pain about it. If some people like it, awesome. I'll just check something else out.

Does this sounds like spider man to anybody else? Black suit Peter (or maybe even Miguel in some ways) but the kid genius whos very broke and has connections to a lot of his will be villains, dead paternal figure, etc. Kinda reminds me of Peter Parker in some ways.

To me despite being "because comics" in parts this seems like a more grounded take on Bruce's story. I like it. That said I'm not that hard to please. This comic seems like tons of fun to read and that's enough to get me all in!

I was dubious going into this but thought it was pretty good. Given the world that he lives in even the axe made sense. This Gotham is savage, and anything goes. Very interested to see where it goes & I want to know about more this version of Alfred.

I could be wrong but I think it was implied that the way Gordon directed the attention of the shooters towards himself at the town hall meeting is probably the same thing Thomas Wayne did at the zoo to protect the students, just “off screen”

Bought it (foil variant) and it was fantastic. Love how he's more batlike in his fighting style. The wings in particular, and his wild engineered weapons. But most crazy of all is Martha is alive! Not only is 24 yo Bruce an Absolute Unit, he's a mommy's boy!!! That's freaking brilliant.

That logo doesn't even give the impression of a stylized bat. It's a rectangle with pointy bits

I'm in the "make it a different character" camp. It's not so much "this isn't Batman", though probably a bit of "not my Batman" as this is not what I enjoy about a Batman story. The same is true for the rest of the Absolute universe comics. Darkseid can have it.

This is Punk Rock Batman, and I'm loving every minute of it.

I was prepared to make fun of it but actually I had a fun time reading it. Also the panel of batman hanging upside down, wrapped up in his cape and looking like an actual bat while he gets shot at, is my new favourite panel. When he pulled out the battle axe and the knife it got a little silly for my taste but the hanging upside down is pure gold. I love it!

I find the axe is this story kinda tonally off. If it feels like it's meant to be kinda edgy, but when I see it, I can't help but think of the ep of Batman: The Brave and the Bold where he revealed the bat symbol can work as an extra batarang.

I liked it a lot. A take on Batman I've never seen before. So different, but still seems true to the core of the character. The axe was ridiculous though.

I just read the issue and I loved it. It keeps elements of mainline Batman while playing with others. I’m hoping Wonder Woman and Superman are as good as this

Loved it and I’m on board to see what comes with the whole Absolute Universe and especially in Batman’s Absolute universe. Great twists, great action. Give me more!

I like what they did with the cape, and I guess the knives on his head can at least be somewhat practical, but the axe need a redesign. Battleaxes are actually pretty small and light, yet this one seems closer to a tree falling axe. Now, I will grant the blocky design does have passive benefits as being a metal plate on his chest for extra protection from bullets, so it covers more of his chest than a more stylized Bat logo. It still looks weird, but, since it's metal, it's more practical.

The concept of Bruce Wayne Batman but not rich I thought would be an interesting one to explore. However, recently its become more in vogue to tear down characters like Bruce and their achievements simply because "rich white dude" which put a damper on some of the eagerness to explore that concept. We already had to deal with mainline Bruce losing large sums of his money and dealing with idiocy of stories like Gotham War. That said, Absolute Batman still feels interesting enough, some big changes but still promising and familiar in a way. Rich or not we still see Bruce doing what he can to kearn and better himself for instance. I do think the Absolute Universe will ultimately prove that despite the drastic changes and edginess to the characters they are still heroes at their core and will keep checking out. I too am also curious of Bruce the Momma's Boy. Do also wonder if the other guy at the punching bag will end up being just a rando or someone important like Dick who I wonder how he and other sidekicks will end up fitting in this universe.

This was my favorite read of the week and it had some great choices. It'll take awhile for me to accept Bruce's stature or the logo, but the story was exactly what I wanted. Conjecture comment: I feel like Alfred is the one who shot up the zoo.

Like, in standard continuity, you ask "who has the resources to get a plane and a supercar and an advanced tech suit?" and inevitably wind up looking at the few rich people in Gotham. In absolute continuity, you need only ask "who is a 7 foot tall, 500lb man?"

This whole thing strikes me as the height of cynical corporate decision making. If you’re going to change the foundation of the character just make a new character; but new characters don’t sell so we just slap your original ideas onto an already existing character and call it an alternate timeline

It's definitely an interesting take. I'd much rather see this as an all new character. Feels like we are just using the name to generate interest rather than letting the story give it its legs.
