Emma I'm in my 70s and have been gardening for years, but you never fail to bring a smile to my face. You are an inspiration to new plotters, long may you reign.❤
I walk round my garden every morning talking to my plants. My neighbours must think I've lost my mind. Its so satisfying when they are doing well - although this year...............😂🙄🤷♀️🌱🌱🌱
Its not always that birds like our plants, for sure sometimes it is. Ither times its damage from birds pecking bugs off the foliage. So they might not love courgettes but the bugs courgettes attract.
Hi Emma, we bought a wildlife camera and set it up and because it;s solar powered we don't even have to buy batteries for it. The two reasons we got it was to see what happens overnight, like if the fox has visited etc.... and also to see if any people trespass on our allotment. So far ive not seen any people recorded on it's sim card but the birds and squirrels etc definitely visit!
*EMMA* get yourself a 3lb club hammer! They're cheap but they make driving stakes into the ground WAAAY easier than just manually pushing or using a hammer, especially for us girls.
Glad your peas survived their fall😮. I had to rip out ALL my Sutton beans today 😢. I had one bean plant with black fly and I gave it a spray with the diluted washin-up liquid, but with being busy with work all week I then forgot about them. Came out this morning (only 5 days later) and the whole bed of beans was covered with black fly, and one poor lonely ladybird trying to eat them all 😮😅.
Have a good weekend your allotment is wonderful i have had one for over 30 years and it can get over whelming at times. Sometimes its just good to sit and enjoy all the hard work with a flask of tea. x
My stepdaughter has just this year taken on an allotment.i think it's great as putting up her shed to composting to staking covering propergating promotes a simple thing ...life skills ..
Another brilliant vlog! So beyond happy to see Rocky has returned (thought she'd got hit by a car or something!)... So cute. If you get her treats, try dreamies lol.
If you put a stick at an angle either side push it deep it will suooort them exponentially. Essentially that looks like a sail on a ship. And the pea shoots are the sails aye lass!
I love your vlogs. I'm like you : loving my plants, talking to my plants, being scared when storm is coming. And i understand this anxiety we have sometimes when things don't go as we wanted. 🤞🏻
Bolting happens when there's not enough water. When I think that there has been some rain and they'll do or I'm feeling so tired that I'm not up to bringing another can of water - that's when they decide for flowers instead of roots. Especially onions, leeks and radishes.
So glad you saved your peas and the trellis!! I understand your heartbreak when you saw them down on the ground. I'm in the States and we had a bad storm come through a few nights ago and completely demolished the canopy I had over my pond, tropical plants and tomatoes. Thankfully the plants and pond are fine but the canopy is a twisted mess that I'll have to take apart and replace this weekend. I love your channel!!
Your allotment is doing well but please make your stuctures tepees or add support legs and save yourself all the stress. Wait till your rhubarb is dormant before moving it and eat the stalks (mind the leaves are poisonous) in a crumble with apples if you don't have enough.
You really need proper posts hammered in a foot at least. OR 2 bamboo canes in an A frame at each end with another tied between the 2 frames.❤ Peas are tough though so you'll be fine😂
Aww, all those feathers... Looks like a fox killed or ate a bird on your plot. So sad. But super glad to see Rocky! I bet he has a nice warm home to sleep in over winter 🐈🐈🐈
I use 2 very tall metal obelisks about 5 feet apart and pop canes across and also use twine I between the canes. The obelisks are very secure as the have metal spikes in the ground
I've been having quite a disappointing season so far, plants bolting, being eaten by slugs and birds. I've lost 2 sowings of beans now. Soo disheartening, I might try and get some plug plants as I've not got any beans left to plant 😭
My Broccoli, Mustard Leaves and Watercress all went straight to flower! Bees 🐝 have been happy with it, so this is good. But I really would like some fresh salad leaves, my rocket went leggy, bet it’ll flower too! 💚 Planted out a few sunflowers 🌻 today, will they still be there in the morning?!!!!! 🤪
My plot is being attacked by everything under the sun, l have foxes jumping all over my nets and flattened what is under them my peas have got eaten, something is digging my beetroot up and my potatoes and my carrots are non existence, but hay ho we just carry on 😢
i got just 5 Pumpkin Plants thats all i have achieved the last few months Yikes, i am gonna plant them out next Friday as i have given them so much feed i bet they think they are all on the Roids.. and i hope i get at least one Pumpkin FFS
@@emmasallotmentdiaries i live in Hope?? but the warm weather this year has been Horrifying.. even my Potatoes i planted a few weeks ago are non existant Yikes
Ah, I have been actually. Had a lot of rejection lately and a few big set backs. But I know people love and rely on these vlogs so didn’t want to let anyone down. Life isn’t always easy, but I do enjoy being at my plot. It’s my sanctuary xx
@@emmasallotmentdiaries you need to take time for you, we'll all still be here when you come back. Some days at the plot not having to worry about content or vlogging may help. You don't owe us anything, you owe yourself everything. Gotta look after yourself lass xx
Some folks don’t see all their peas falling over as a disaster, I would but a least they’re still rooted. The disaster is the shock of seeing it, and the I love the ‘am dram’ you’re videos are always Lively…thank you Emma
You can eat broad beans raw, like peas. Young ones are sweeter and tender. If you let them grow you can get the 2nd bean out of the centre and steam them or cook in butter, delicious. So happy to see the return of Rocky. Great vlog 😊
