The funny thing about the boondocks is alot of their most memorable one off characters and moments are usually based on real people and actual quotes. Reality really is the strangest form of fiction. This includes the smoking with cigarettes kid, Thugnificient, even Wentworth juniors friends rant about Iraq was actually all quotes from Donald rumsfeld back in the early 2000's. Boondocks was really unique in the way that it combined cheap comedy while spoonfeeding real socio politcal issues present in the modern day. The show is basically one large mosaic of American culture and all of the problems that continue to influence society even today.

As an Australian, he's actually NOT liked by as many as you think. The whole park and family was turned into a caricature of over the top showmanship like a goddamn circus act by the wife. Coming from Western Australia I can tell you the stuff he done with crocodiles WAS dangerous and many people feared the kids would end up drug addicts because their lives were so public. Like I said it was FAR more of a circus all about putting on a show than ACTUAL care about animals. The place is also one of the most expensive tickets you've ever paid to enter. It was over $300 about 15 years ago.

It’s possible they sent him to an adult prison because Juvie wasn’t working (he was involved in robberies and shootings before he pulled a gun on the cops). Sometimes they make a descision like that because they don’t want him to disrupt the education of the others in juvie.

My grandpa told my family Juvie was much worse than prison for him, granted that was decades ago and anecdotal so not sure if that was everywhere or if that remains true. Said he was treated worse in Juvie and the kids were more wild than the adults in prison.

The reason he was sent to an adult prison is because he was what he was, not the other way around.

At least in my experience (visited a couple family members that went to the joint), cigarettes are still buyable on the commissary (only ever went to AZ state prisons for visits, and they’d let you know why they wanted some cash for the books). During my times visiting and after, my loved ones said it was either cigarettes (for obvious reasons) or postage stamps (small, lightweight, easy to hide on the way to the yard, can be traded rather easily).
