I eat cornstarch. Well I don't swallow it... found out that because I have an iron deficiency I crave it like people it ice or plastic because the body needs iron... cornstarch doesn't have iron in it but it helps with my deficiency.

I think it’s important for people to know that having deficiencies or withdrawals can lead bizarre behaviors. Clearly, she turned to cornstarch to cope with loss but having pica could’ve been the reason she craved cornstarch specifically.

I know a few people already commented on this but I can totally picture the police pulling her over,seeing some sort of white powder residue on her upper lip,searching her vehicle and siezing multiple sandwich bags of white powder. I was shocked when I saw this pop up as a suggestion for me. When I was pregnant I was cooking and needed to use corn starch. I got some on my finger and just licked it off, as a person would when cooking for my husband and I. Well, for whatever reason I was hooked!! I didn't eat boxes a day but I ate a pretty decent amount in the months of pregnancy following. Corn starch and ice were it for me. Along with ice cream cookie sandwiches, cinnamon rolls, and other sweets. I ended up having gestational diabetes. After I gave birth, I didn't eat it again! I told my doctor and she said it was ok since it was used in foods and was actually edible. At least I wasn't eating dirt or laundry detergent or something dangerous like that!! My daughter is 10 and she's perfect. It was defiantly bizarre, I don't deny that!

Wait until she finds out that there is FLAVORED CORN STARCH in the 🇲🇽 Mexican aisle of her grocery store! *Maizena* is used to make atole, a warm drink. ☕ Basically, it is flavored corn starch! And, it is available in 🍓strawberry, 🍌banana, 🥥coconut, 🍫chocolate, vanilla or 🌰nut flavors!

@@user-bp3uc6vx4l You’re only supposed to use a couple of tablespoons and mix it with hot milk! Atole tastes like a warm, thick milk shake. It has the consistency of a shake, but instead of being cold, it is warm. It is usually paired with sweet bread or cookies.

I have pica and my guilty pleasure is food grade diatomaceous earth powder. It has the consistency of chalk and I love it. I only eat a spoonful every few weeks though.

I have this. To get off of it I now eat plain, dry, quick oats with roasted almonds mixed in (non salted & non sweetened) It is really filling the void & delicious. I also have iron deficiency

There is also a thing in the US called corn flour that's just ground up corn, like extra fine corn meal. Corn starch is specifically the starch from the kernal, similar to potato starch. I'm curious which one you guys use.

After my grandma passed away I started consuming ice chips large cups I didn’t realize this was my way of coping and dealing with anxiety. Well I had labs drawn for my annual doctor visit and was slightly anemic. I stopped eating ice but sometimes crave cold foods. I’m glad she’s getting help 🙏🏼

I have a friend who also eat lots of cornstarch everyday. She's was even in a FB group of others who also ate it. She would trade with them different brands of cornstarch from across the US.

when I was young I taste paper accidentally and it taste unique and good texture. But luckily I love other food more than paper, but I remember when I'm bored that I chew paper. Omg I never think that act is disgusting😂

They should have brought her to a doctor to check her serum ferritin and her transferrin saturation. I believe she has an deficiency or a low transferrin saturation. That can cause this crave for cornstarch.

Usually when you are addicted to eating cornstarch or ice, plastic or even dirt, usually red dirt its because of anniron deficiency....the body needs iron and that's why you crave it... I eat cornstarch and use to eat red dirt...ice helps sometimes.... unfortunately I have sickle cell so I can't take iron pills to help with my iron deficiency so I still eat the cornstarch...o don't swallow it though 😅
