"Perfectly imperfect". What a great way of putting it. I'm classically trained on guitar and ordinarily find even a single note out of place grabs my attention, but for some reason with Ren, not only do I not care, it seems to add even more to the rawness of the performance. I love everything he's done, but this trilogy is still my favourite. Great reaction, keep it up.

I think this song is supposed to make us angry and aware. The circle of violence is a horrible thing to witness or be a part of. I went through 20 years of nightly verbal abuse that nearly destroyed me. I began to believe what he said and didn't come to my senses until the day he died and I was free. The good to come from it though, is never being hurtful toward others because I know the damage that simple words can do. Love to you, yours, and your channel...spread it around.

Great reaction to a very dark but beautifuly crafted story. It get´s even darker when you think about what Jenny was doing at night in those streets she walked a thousand times...in High Heels and with rouge on her cheeks....and why she wanted to escape.

Jenny & Screech lost their mum.. dad probably went to jail.. so the kids grew up in foster care and never knew each other 😢

Screech went to Patrick’s house and couldn’t find refuge.. so he tried to call his girlfriend to find somewhere safe to go.. but she was ‘busy’ so he got mad.. There’s actually a video that explains the back story. I’ll find the link for you. Patrick was with Screech’s girlfriend.. that’s why she was busy.

I believe the symbolism behind the phone call was intended to demonstrate screeches feeling that everyone he had ever trusted or invested in would when push come to shove would ultimately let him down,when he needed them the most!! This is of course only my opinion,others may have different opinions,and of course those people would be wrong!!

To be fair almost everybody misses the clue when he ends Screech's tale he says it ends right at the start,poor Jenny and Screech laying one street apart...it is so quick that most people don't notice it.

Ren's music is visceral. I actually feel it in my body. This song describes in a most eloquently poetic style the heart wrenching tragedy of multigenerational domestic violence. It gets perpetuates so often. A vengeful anger will be followed by a gut wrenching crying; crying from the soul

your reaction is remarkable, you are so right about Ren being a minstrel/poet, he reminds me of the Elizabethans, Shakespeare, John Donne, John Dowland -they all spoke on the themes in the songs -they are as dark as Ren.. He is so English like them -his pronunciation all part of the experience and he treats the acoustic guitar like Dowlands lute. He is like a chameleon as well, I now wonder if I walked past him when I have been running through Brighton on business!

Ren calls his music Bardcore (which is actually a thing... who knew). The phone call was to show Screech had no refuge. It goes to his state of mind when the cops show. My favourite Ren song is Crutch (with Bibi). It was written 6 years ago just before he finally got a proper (Lymes) diagnosis. He was still being told it was mostly psychological. I can't say more without spoilers but it is a really beautiful different side to Ren. Ren has an update on his community page about Crutch if you want the history.

The best part of the whole trilogy imo was either at the end of screeches tale when he kicks in with "Richard was an officer who stood..." or violets tale where he comes in with "that's the sound of his fists..." musically speaking that is. Don't be quick to condemn screech think about his potential societal position. I read Patrick his best friend has been screwing the love of his life which has been tormenting his mindset and thought processes for a long time. Screech has been suicidal for along time and longing to die. He then bumped into jenny their eyes they met. When he killed Jenny he killed himself. He saw himself in his twins eyes. He acted on ferocious emotion. Unbeknownst to him and he ultimately and immediately regretted his actions. Compassion is needed here.

I love his opening intro with the music being more dramatic to prepare you . . for what? And then you find out pretty quick it won't be pretty.

That's EXACTLY what Ren is doing. It's called Bardcore. Harking back to the Medieval Theatres / the Royal Courts, where there were Troubadours and Travelling Bards, carrying stories that thrill, and inform. Often with irony and merciless spotlighting of current characters, the passing of scurrilous gossip, or commentary on political personalities and events. He uses similar { Bardic } musical and vocal motifs and street crier gestures and stance delivered with a blend of modern techniques. It's brilliant, but all this would still not hang together without the huge multi-facetted talent - that is Ren! This is not a music video so much as modern street theatre with a Shakespearian feel, exposing all the tragic twists and turns of the human condition. Ren takes us on a journey with an immediacy that makes us feel we are right there in frame as 'Witness' to these events. In this he is not just a creative artist, but also a social commentator, forcing us to look at the tough stuff and really think through how we as a society can prevent more Jenny's and Screech's from taking this destructive path toward victim and / or perpetrator.

You will love all the busking videos of The Big Push, which is a band he was part of. They’re all phenomenal talents.

Great reaction. I really enjoyed it. However, a word of warning: Don't say you will murder anyone no matter who they are. The reason why victims of violence and sexual abuse stay silent is shame and because they don't want their dear friends murdering anyone and going to jail. "I will kill him!" is not what people like Violet need to hear. What they need, and the only thing they really need is sanctuary.

I'm sure that I read somewhere that even Ren describes this as bardcore. To be honest even if he doesn't I do. The man is a genius.

The „imperfections“ make it more real. Life isn’t steril and perfect. Most of the best art is serious and open enough like that. Jeff Buckley for example or Glenn Gould.

Next you need to do Chalk Outlines (live) Ren and Chinchilla. And then when you think your mind can't be blown anymore, you need to do - Losing It, Hunger, and What you Want ❤

The phone call a was to highlight that Patrick and his bird were cheating with eachother behind Screech's back. He wasn't in and she was busy....

While I COMPLETELY understand your justifiable anger towards these situations, visibly being on the verge of losing control is exactly what abuse victims witness from their attackers daily, and them seeing it in anyone else will immediately keep them from going to that person for help. Like I said, I understood completely, but the display of it has to be controlled and kept in check. Just a hopefully helpful piece of advice! Great reaction to the kid genius!

I'm right there with you. I'm a HUGE Ren fan, and as much as I love this song, it pisses me off because there's nothing more in this world that I despise more than men who abuse women or children. Wait in the Truck was my favorite song before I heard Ren. My girlfriend's ex abused her and has a bad temper. I fear for my own future if he ever f***s up like that again.

More violence, regardless of the reason for it is exactly what this situation needs.

If you've ever seen an interview with Ren, he wants his platform to be based on the downfall of humanity; aka the hard things we all know exist but refuse to talk about. Bringing them into the conversation, as hard as it is, is a step towards fixing it. He STRIVES to make us angry, so we try to fix it.

Patrick wasn't I. So he rang his Mrs for somewhere to hide but she was busy! Put two n two together! Patrick's banging his mrs! Bit of an Easter egg!

It's worth bearing in mind, that since this is a tale - essentially, of intergenerational trauma - Violet's mother (just like Violet herself did) has picked a man who was very likely the same as her Dad was. So the reason for Violet's mother being a drinker - was very likely to numb her emotions to a lifetime of abuse.

I get so frustrated with so many reactions because most tend to miss the line "he swung possessed with the devil in his chest"....he killed her. So many miss that, some never catch it, even through the whole story. Thank You for not being one of them. Also, for "Screech's Tale", it seems that almost no one catches that Screech's girlfriend and his friend Patrick, happen to be "busy", or not available, at the same time. Consider why. Maybe they were together? Patrick wasn't home...was he with Screech's girl at her place and that's why she was "busy"? It adds a whole other layer to the story. Also consider that Jenny and Screech were born side by side, and essentially died side by side, one street apart. Born on the same day, died on the same day. An entire family, mother and twins that never knew each other, wiped out by a cycle of violence. An abused mother, a 14 year old prostitute, and a 14 year old thug/murderer. Powerful stuff. Not sure if you caught it or not, but he did all 3 songs in a single take each, just like "Hi Ren". In the "Violet's Tale" pay attention to how he uses the acoustics of his environment to accentuate the song. Absolute brilliance. The man is truly special.

Ren's the antidote to autotune and identikit songs with 13 writers that we've needed for a long time. Hope your Dad's doing well after his surgery.
